Born In the Wrong Decade
|
MegaMan ZX Revenge of the Past “Russ! Russ! Wake up! The boss is here!” Russell Calypso shook himself awake and turned to face his coworker, Ben. “Huh?” was all he had to say. “Quick, make yourself busy! The boss is coming this way!” In the blink of an eye, Russell grabbed a broom and began sweeping the steel floor. He was just in time. His boss, Sergeant Pepper Anderson, came around the corner and cleared his throat. “Mr. Calypso,” said the Sergeant in a gravelly voice. “Yes, sir, Sergeant Anderson!” Russell exclaimed, adding unnecessary enthusiasm to his voice. “Russ, I’m not a Sergeant anymore. I’m retired, and I’m never going back to that life again. Anyway, how’s it coming over here?” “Great, sir,” said Russell, calmed down a bit. “I was just starting to sweep up the dust here. Allergies kinda bothering me.” He sniffed to make his lie convincing. “Ah. Bummer. Tis’ the season, eh?” Russell grimaced. “Unfortunately.” “You did a good job today, Russ. You can go home.” “Really? Thanks, Sergeant Anderson!” With that, Russell threw the broom aside, slung his bag over his shoulder and was on his way. The man watched from the top of a skyscraper as the mavericks wreaked havoc on the ground far below. They set fires. They blew things up. He was an eccentric man. The most striking thing about him was the dirtied cape blowing in the wind. It was decorated with simple patterns that gave it a rustic, almost Indian look. Beneath it he wore light armor and baggy pants decorated with similar patterns. On his hands he wore oversized gauntlets and a ring on each finger. He brushed his long brown hair from his face, revealing a scar over his right eye. “Guess it’s time I intervened.” He pushed off of the side of the building and began to fall the long distance to the ground. But then he took a small stone from beneath his cloak and held it in front of him. “Bio-link, established! Mega-merge, Model E!” The stone seemed to explode, and his armor changed. He still retained his cape, but the rest of the man’s attire was clashing. Black and red metallic boots with sandals of the same color scheme sheathed his ankles and feet, and a long black vest billowed about his waist. Locked about his arms were black and red gauntlets, with black fingerless gloves beneath them. Over his shoulders were mismatched coverings. One was a small circular covering, and the other was a rectangular shield. A steel headband wrapped itself around his head, and was linked to pointed ear-pieces that jutted out from under his hair, giving the impression of elven ears. From his feet a trail of blue energy erupted and propelled him faster to the ground below. Russell Calypso ran through the streets past burning homes and smoldering stores. All he had wanted to do was get home after a hard day of slacking. But now, he’d be lucky to find a temporary place of refuge. Behind him, three reploids chased after him. One flew in the air with a scythe, another ran swiftly and gracefully along the ground with a beam saber, and the third ran somewhat clumsily with a knuckle buster pointed ahead. Normally this would not have been a problem. One or two mavericks usually posed no threat. But there were too many now. He had hacked the limbs off of one or two of them, but that only bought him a split second to escape. Twice as many joined the group as were destroyed, and he had no option but to run. The boy approached an alley, but he knew that it would not be an ideal hiding place, to say the least. He was in plain view of the Mavericks, and they would corner him. So he passed the alley and ran faster. Nothing mattered now. Nothing but staying alive. But even that seemed like a dream of a dream now. Just then, he heard the sound of metallic boots on concrete. He turned, expecting mavericks at his heels. But then he stopped. For there, standing between him and the now puzzled mavericks, was a man. A tall man with long brown hair, and a most peculiar set of armor. “I’m here to help,” he said to him. Immediately he took two obsidian rods from inside his jacket, and twirled them into a battle ready position. He pressed a button on them, and a crimson beam of light extended from the tips of the rods, and curved to form a hook. A crescent-shaped blade adorned the guard, and a third blade acted as both a counterweight and an additional weapon. Twin hook swords. This man was here to protect him. (Please note that the name Sergeant Pepper Anderson was inspired by the Beatles' song, "Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band." It is not one of my names.) THE REBELLION This is the message left for new recruits by Russell Calypso himself. “My name is Russell Calypso, Commander of the Rebellion. You’re probably wondering why you’re here. If you asked nearly any common human or reploid what they thought of the present-day society, they would say that the world has become a peaceful place, that the old war is long gone, and nothing more than legend. They would say that there is no suffering in the world. Everything is perfect… Perfect, as far as they are concerned. But not us. We, the Rebellion, understand that it is far from perfect. Digging deeper, we find that it is yet again a time of desolation. Even with the various incompetent companies working to stop maverick outbreaks, history is about to repeat itself. Another war lies just around the corner. And yet the common people simply refuse to question the perfect lives they lead, and thus don’t see the evil that lurks behind the façade of peace. These mavericks pose a threat to the peace the people of the world so abundantly share. They could destroy everything we’ve worked so hard to achieve…That’s why you’re here. To put an end to this war before it even begins… Because with the military blind to the truth, and Slither Inc. unveiled, we’re the only ones who can.” RULES Follow all of Mia’s rules No spamming No flaming No one word or otherwise useless posts. Make sure you have something to contribute to the story. Side-quests are fine, but your posts must say something more then just, “Cool.” No power-gaming. REPLOIDS What is a reploid? A reploid is a robot meant to emulate humans in every way possible, and therefore is capable of independent thought, and human-like emotions. However, they are generally stronger and more agile than humans. Of course reploids, being machines, could never age. But they have recently been granted human mortality, and only live about as long as humans do. CHARACTER INFORMATION: Keep in mind that your character and their Biometal MUST be original. Don’t give him or her a Bass.EXE type personality. And if someone says a door is locked and encrypted, then it’s locked and encrypted; no mysteriously bypassing locks. That’s power-gaming. No mysteriously appearing and vanishing, either. Jumping up to the ceiling and automatically leaving the room doesn’t make sense and would be impossible in real life. Things like that are cliched beyond words, and aren’t much fun for anyone. We can’t all play the lone wolf, or there would be no alliances or even a conflict. Name: Species: Human or Reploid? Secondary Jobs: Choose from the list below. Appearance: Self-explanatory. A picture is cool. Personality: Originality is much encouraged. Biometal: Only if you choose to not have a weapon. Weapons: Only if you choose to not have a Biometal. Background: Originality is key here. BIOMETAL Scattered across the world, there are rare, mystical kinds of metals that are actually a conscious entity. A metal capable of independent thought, they are believed to be the remnants of heroes (and villains) from hundreds of years ago. These metals, called Biometals, allow people to transform, or "Megamerge." When someone megamerges, they gain the appearance of a reploid as well as special abilities. However, not everyone can Megamerge. Only a select few, called "Mega Men," can use the power of the Biometal. The Biometal chooses its owner. It won't work for anyone else. By the way, you can only choose one biometal until further notice. If you possess a Biometal, you must give additional information. Model Name: Characteristics: What type of fighting style does the Biometal employ? Weapons: Element: There are four elements: Normal, Electric, Fire, and Ice. Model Appearance: What added equipment and/or armor does your character gain when transformed? Biometal Special Ability: See the section on this below. Special Attacks: (2 MAX) History: How did the Biometal find its way into its current owner’s possession? Why did the Biometal choose your character? ELEMENTS Fire melts Ice, Ice freezes Thunder, and Thunder overpowers Fire. Normal grants no elemental strengths, but leaves no elemental weaknesses, either. BIOMETAL SPECIAL ABILITY Each member is able to choose 1 special ability that their Biometal grants them. These abilities are automatically activated when you Mega-merge. They can include things like flight or X-ray vision. SPECIAL ATTACK Each member is able to choose 2 special attacks unique to themselves. Keep in mind that you may only use each one once per mission. Unless stated otherwise, of course. OFFICIAL MISSIONS When a mission becomes available an operator or leader will post it. Sign up for a mission by quoting the mission and stating that you accept. Sometimes, there will only be a limited number of fighters who can go on a mission, due to unusual circumstances. Sign up first to get the job! OVERDRIVE INVOKE SYSTEM (OIS) The Overdrive Invoke System, commonly referred to as OIS or simply, “Overdrive,” is a type of Mega-merging, which gives the user a different style of fighting. Often more powerful than a normal Mega-merge, but more exhausting, an Overdrive is unique to each person. It is a combination of the power of both the Mega Man and the Biometal, and has extraordinary potential. It functions differently for each person, and is also activated in different ways. You cannot start out with an OIS. Very few are able to unlock the full potential of their OIS, and doing so takes time and dedication. Name: Zachariah Terryl Species: Human Appearance: Dirtied cape decorated with simple, ornate patterns, light armor and baggy pants decorated with similar patterns as the cape, oversized gauntlets, ring on each finger long brown hair, scar over his right eye. Personality: Very friendly and laid-back. Extremely heroic, and appears overly-optimistic. Biometal: Model E Weapons: None Background: Zach refuses to reveal anything about his past, possibly because he's done some things he isn't proud of. He will reveal bits and pieces every now and then, however. Model Name: Model E Characteristics: Close-range fighting, enhanced speed and agility, flight. Weapon: Shang Gou Hook Swords Element: None/Ice Model Appearance: Biometal Special Ability: Flight with external pressure adjusters for altitude mobility. Special Attacks: To be announced Overdrive: Undiscovered History: Model E was once a reploid named Eclipse, until he was killed and turned into a biometal. Zach refuses to share anything more than that. Model E claims to have chosen Zach "out of haste in a dire situation." Name: Russell Calypso Species: Human Appearance: Long, brown hair, brown eyes, black jacket and pants, red shirt, red steel anklets, and red sandals, beam katana sheathed at hip. Personality: Very friendly and laid-back. Possesses a contagious inner peace. Biometal: None Weapons: Beam Katana Background: A janitor by day, and the leader of the Rebellion by night, Russell lacks any sort of biometal connection, but something about him suggests a hidden agenda… Could he be part of something more than the Rebellion? |

"My name's Zach," said the man to Russell, without looking back. "Zachariah Terryl." The man now known as Zach rushed forward and, in the blink of an eye, decapitated the heads of all of the mavericks. Then he turned back to Russell and said, "Run." Russell did run. He ran as fast as he could for the Main Transfer Network building. He looked back, and Zach was right behind him, hacking all nearby mavericks to bits. Somehow the sight of him scared Russell, and so he pushed himself harder, and ran faster. Ha ha ha... Imagine... Me, the Commander of the Rebellion, scared by the sight of this raving lunatic. I know it's a biometal, but... He skidded to a halt at the door to the building. He pushed on the door, but to no avail. When Zach caught up to him, he pulled th door open, remarking, "It's pull," and slipped inside. Feeling like an idiot, he pulled open the door and followed Zach inside. He ran after his unofficial bodyguard, stopping in the Mass Transfer Room. "Right here," said Zach. "Here you can go back to wherever you came from. Hurry. They'll be right behind us." As if on cue, mavericks burst through the door, brandishing various painful-looking weapons. "Hurry!" Russell knew better than to disobey. He ducked inside the nearest transfer chamber and started inputting the coordinates to the base. He stopped. If these servers had trackers, the location of the base would be blown. He instead typed in the coordinates to a server on the other side of town, where he was sure he could escape back to the base on foot. He pressed "ENTER," and with a final backward glance at Zach, he found himself in an all-new environment in the blink of an eye. |

Russell had appeared in an alley on the other side of the city. Unfortunately, the sound of his molecules reassembling had attracted the attention of some passing mavericks. "Huh?" said one in gravelly tones. "What is it, Ramone?" asked another hoarse voice. "I thought I heard someone back here. Kyle, help me search." "Ramone, we've been back there five times already. If anyone was back there we'd have killed them already." "Oh, just help me." "Fine." Russell didn't react despite the fact that he was cornered by bloodthirsty mavericks. He could only hope for the best. ((That would be your cue, Raider. ;))) |

Crono crashed through the celing and landed in front of the Maverics using the power of Model T. He pulled out his weapons: a pair of Sabers. "Crono... they are kinda slow for a reaction, dont you think," asked Model T. "Yea..." Crono dashed and send his power into the blades, creating a triangle of energy around him. He started up his thrusters and sent himself between the Reploids. The triangle seemed to close in on a point ahead of him, and he slashed as the triangle hit that point, causing a small area freezebetween the reploids. |

((There was no cieling. It's an alley.)) "Kalven!' exclaimed Russell. "Perfect timing!" For a moment, Russell zoned out and wished feverently that he had a biometal of his own. "You wouldn't happen to have a portable transfer server on you, would you?" |
