I use just Paint.NET, however it's on my other comp. I'll do the best I can to step through it without being able to look at it. Later, I'll upload with pics.

Start with your background pic and move it, crop it, stretch it, w/e to the size you need (we use 110x400). Don't compromise quality too much, if the pic you want won't work, it just won't.

When you have what you want, add a layer.

Now, find the image of the flag you want and add it to that layer. Same as above, fix it to the size you want. Make sure it's recognizable as it's respective nation, but don't worry too much if you can't see all of it. You need to change the layer's transparency setting to somewhere around or below 55%, whatever looks like what you want.

Now, add another layer.

Simply type in whatever you want. I usually use the photo adjust setting to add a glow effect. Note that this will add a glow to anything in that layer, so make sure you put whatever you want a glow on in a layer separate from the rest.

This should be enough to get you started. I do some things a little more advanced than what I've described here, but you should get it as you work with it.

I can take this picture here:

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_vtYcXfggQbA/R5SD...sskaya_1600.jpg

Tweak it a hell of a lot by copying it, blurring it, saturating/desaturating it, overlaying it, blackwhite-ing it, screwing around with it, and basically desecrated it with Paint Shop Pro.

Afterwards, I added text, killed that too, and finally finished it after a grand total of ten minutes. And voilą, a crappy version of a signature that I would normally take half an hour to do.

Open flag picture as new Layer

Please link your images, as they stretch out the screen and make it extremely difficult to read posts or even use the navigation buttons correctly.

Normally I'd echo that bitching, but Kyogen's post was ridiculously informative (and a bit of a hassle), which makes it acceptable in this situation.

Here's what I see

Note that I can't read all of what's said in a post and only see a little bit of the Reply button, and none of the rest of them. I don't know how the mouse wheel is supposed to help me here, considering it scrolls up and down, not left and right.

In innumerable threads, I've not been able to read a conversation or even post a reply sometimes, because someone's posted an image that stretches the screen out too far. I know I'm not the only one who experiences this and I know I'm not the only one who's complained about it.
I really don't see what so difficult about just linking to a pic that's too large.

Arrow keys does not work for me, the only way for me to each that's outside my screen is to mark the text and the screen follows it

Get a bigger screen, then. Spending that extra $400 on a new monitor to view a forum correctly is totally feasible.

And a mousewheel can scroll left to right. You click the mousewheel, and you move your mouse around.

I already have widescreen, and clicking my mouse wheel and moving the mouse doesn't do anything at all. Although, I think that has more to do with Compaq not liking to work with HP stuff actually.

Besides, I found a solution. Arrow keys, ftw.

a) I use two 19" monitors :P
b) Chrome is a great browser, so shush! Besides, I'd hate to make the transition back to Firefox... No shiny surfaces

Skye, then what are you complaining about? Ever thought of not maximising your browser screen, taking one of the edges of your browser, and stretching it across the two so that you can see everything?

Firefox, your answer to all your problems. I use Chrome at school since I can't use Firefox, and IE6 sucks like mad since it doesn't save anything you do. My compsci teacher always closes my browser for no reason and I always lose what I'm doing.

I have, but the reason I use two browsers is cause I multi task a lot... I do not want to read a text that spans two monitors, especially with a large speaker between them

If that was directed towards me I wasn't asking you to, just posting something I'd done with GIMP :P
