I watched them strap him into the seat and shut the door. He might of looked a bit nervous about it but that was about all. I really believe that he knew he was going to be in hell in fifteen minutes. I believe that. And I've thought about that a lot. He was not hard to talk to. Called me Sheriff. But I didn't know what to say to him. What do you say to a man that by his own admission he has no soul? Why would you say anything? I've thought about it a good deal.

Speaking of Asians, why is it that they can only pronounce R's as L's, and vice versa?

A lot of Asian letters sound differently in their native language than they do in English. For example, 'Xia' comes out as more of a 'hsia' sound.

I'm Chinese and I can speak English perfectly well. Better than some native speakers, actually. Or maybe it's the grammar. I'm not sure.

There is no sound in some Asiatic languages that state "Love" or "Lard" or what have you, so it's confused between the L and the R. Chinese sometimes does not have that problem. Xia is like "hsia" but "hsia" is strictly Wade-Giles and outdated completely.

I understand that roman letters do not properly represent their respective Asiatic sounds, but that's not my point. What I don't understand is how they can sound an R and L perfectly, but never as the proper letter. Rs are always perfectly sounded Ls, and Ls are always perfectly sounded Rs. Maybe it's just Koreans.

Filipinos are good speakers in English, not only because we have become an American colony from 1898 to 1946, but also it's part of our language itself. English is considered one of our official languages in our country, after Tagalog. Also, Filipino schools even have rules to use English language in talking to your classmates and teachers (except for our Filipino subject). Technically, the problems that some Filipinos encounter is 1) Grammar construction, sort of the entire words have been misplaced like: What happening? - 2) Is the crossing of letters like i to e and e to i (eg. Fish becomes sometimes Fesh when some Filipinos speak) or f to p and p to f (eg. Pie becomes Fie).

They aren't always perfect. To me it sounds like a 'rlrlrl' sound, as though it's just a weird think for them to say, which I guess it is.

In Indonesia, people don't have any problems with that, although the accent just sounds funny to Americans for some reason. It might be because we almost always pronounce the 'c' as a 'ch' sound. My uncle once said "pass the Che-heese" Also, for some reason the wrong words are emphasised. for example, con-STRUC-tion becomes CON-struc-tion. Indoensians also tend to make regular sentences sound like questions. It's sorta wierd.

The p to f thing and the e to i thing also happens in Indonesia, but 'i' is 'a' instead.
