This is something I've been thinking about for a while now, and I really just can't decide what I want to do. So, I'm throwing it up in the air for you guys to decide. Dmitry Medvedev has been Russia's President for just over a year now, and is fairly popular, but not nearly on the levels that Putin was. However, he's addressed some very major issues with great leadership, including oil debates with neighbors and the EU, the Georgian situation, and the first budget to not have a surplus since 1991. He's been weathered and performed well, but is he what Russia needs? Your decision. Should Medvedev step down as President, allowing Putin to step back into the hot seat? |

Putin, Putin, Putin! |
I watched them strap him into the seat and shut the door. He might of looked a bit nervous about it but that was about all. I really believe that he knew he was going to be in hell in fifteen minutes. I believe that. And I've thought about that a lot. He was not hard to talk to. Called me Sheriff. But I didn't know what to say to him. What do you say to a man that by his own admission he has no soul? Why would you say anything? I've thought about it a good deal. Cormac McCarthy | |

Putting Putin back in power will immediately have half the world cry 'undemocratic.' Irrational, sure, but it'll galvanize public opinion to an extent. Especially in Georgia. |

What I would be interested in seeing is a little power struggle. Putin is the superman of Russia I get that however lets not ignore the fact that Medvedev will be building his own reputation and his own power base within the government. He does have until 2014 before he needs to stand again. |

That's my premise if this vote goes for Putin. I'm planning to have Putin undercut Medvedev using the legislature, then have Medvedev pretty much forced to resign. Also, since Putin is PM, he can become President constitutionally, and serve another term thereafter. |

I would like to see something better then Putin just retaking the Premiership; Russia's Constitutional Court - sort of like US's Supreme Court, but different, heh - has its top position open in 2012 so couldn't Putin go there, or Medevedev [sic] instead of doing their awkward dance right now. |

I'm shocked at how many people voted Medvedev. Nonetheless, i would like to see a political crisis in Russia, and have Medvedev fire Putin and watch the drama unfold. There would be a case for a legitimate coup. |

Keep the status-quo. We all know Putin really runs the show, and Medvedev is just the friendly public face of Russia to basically shut up the cries of "undemocratic" and "Russia is becoming authoritarian". Perhaps do a character rp of how it takes it's toll on Medvedev. There really wont be a power struggle in Russia with these two holding the top two positions, it's just western media hoping. |

Putin would've been a better President if he wasn't surrounded with Yeltsin's old cronies for a good half decade. Yeltsin and his ilk were just Oligarchs trying to get rich, and they still are. Putin owes his power to that drunk and the rich kids, as much as Putin probably doesn't like it. It'll be interesting to see what direction Medvedev takes over the next few years with an unshackled Putin at the helm. This leads me to wonder whether Putin is much of a leader or a thief (Yeltsin?). Part of me thinks thief because he decorated an intelligence officer who stole from the Oil-For-Food Program with Iraq and transferred the money to his Presidency (allegedly). Putin's not really all he's cracked up to be. He was a failure at the KGB, never warranting a stint at one of the abroad residencies in one of Russia's main targets (in order of importance: USA, NATO, China) or apparently a significant role in internal operations. Instead, the hallmark of his KGB stint was East Germany, not exactly vital internal security and pretty far from Russian concerns abroad. |
