So, cutting out the formalities and fanciness because I AM ABOVE ZEE LAW (forum ettiquette expectations, yes I said it), I decided I'd start a thread about... THE BIG SCARY NEW BAN AND RAPE OF TOBACCO! -run, little peasants, run!- The Rundown: No more flavored Cigarettes/Cigarillos (Swisha Sweets, for exampler) No more marketing of "less harmful" Tobacco Products (Lights/Ultralights) *Not necessarily a ban on them, just can't advertise them as healthier. No special additives, like Cloves. (crackle crackle crack) Anything but Menthol Yeah, anything but Menthol got banned pretty much. This will all take effect over the next three years. Also expect ugly ass organs and "nehh i has emphasimas" plastered over half of your Packs. Oh, and Obama is still smoking. They're also planning on raising the tax again. Supposedly they'll cut down the 20% of Adults smoking to 5% in five years. Apparently, too, they're all a bunch of crazies forgetting to take their pills. Also, if you think this is really a good decision then go swallow some nails (seriously), no one's stopping you. Oh, and apparently the FDA will be allowed to tell the Industries what to put into Cigarettes. In other words, they'll say "Less Tobacco, more starch. Much more starch. Anything but tobacco, just make it a shiny glow stick you can light on fire." Oh well. I guess it's time to start importing crappy Russian Cigs come 2013. Of course, assuming the world doesn't end next february. or december 2012. Still. |

EXACTLY. Anyway, fine - Let's get rid of tobacco.. and television, and the automobile, and severely criminalize fornification and premarital sex.. You know what? Let's just outlaw anything that's a free choice upon our selves to possess and enact and all live a monotonous life. Nah, I'm not really that much of a douche bag. Still - I'm going to blow smoke in the face of the next non smoker who complains about smoking, and hope my fucking hardest that it somehow gives him/her cancer. |

Skylar/Hubris: No..you got it wrong. Obama is like night, or day sometimes. You never know which one he is though. He's either left, or right (not political compass speaking). He's on one side of an issue in the press...then next thing you know, he does the exact opposite. NEW WORLD ORDER!!! Hubris: It's not about morals. haha. This is somewhat true. I think what's happening with Obama is what happens with all good presidents. He made many statements on governance and policy while campaigning for the Presidency; however, now that he's in office, he's realising that he can't retain all of those values in his policy: therefore, rather than offering halfway compromises of his ideals that leave everybody ticked off and worse off, Obama is contradicting himself on some choice issues for the betterment of the nation. |

Bugs: I thought you were dead. Oh, and I don't see the immoral value of smoking a Cigarette. I do, however, in claiming I'd blow smoke in the next objector's face. However, if you're going on a stand point to how we should treat the bodies God gave us with respect.. then.. no still doesn't work for me. There's no perfectly healthy environment. Cigarettes are just one of the many things that kill us these days, as far as "products" go, and if you look at the cure of addiction.. it's not that it lies in the nicotine, as it lies a lot more in the feel of holding and smoking the actual cigarette it self. In other words - There is no true self-cure to smoking than quitting in it self, and no substitute either. With Obama and his policies/trends - He's an inexperienced ass hole trying to push hard beliefs and positions of his upon the entire nation.. and it's not working. Because the nation CAN'T work the way he wants it too - and so when it comes down to it, he starts to see how these decisions are pretty much bogus and flips about in the Political cesspool just to pass whatever he can that seems big and seems like it could work to please any sort of crowd. That didn't make sense. Oh well. I'm too tired of Politics.. which is one reason why I gave up with RP'ing.. I can't even stand them when they're completely for entertainment what if purposes. In fact, I've developed the attitude of just caring about what's around me before thinking on the broader level. Which might be why I'm so vastly opposed to this tobacco thing. Seeing as I'll personally make the decision to die a horrible, painful death from it before allowing somehow else to try to limit my access to such means of ill thought behavior. Or completely outlaw such said behavior completely. Still feel like I'm too tire to pretend smart on much this morning. *slams head, figuratively, not really, but is hungry* That's how my mind works, in those asterisks. :] |

I'm of the belief that cigarettes, marijuana, alcohol, etc. should all be completely legal. They are substances that we consume while knowing full well the consequences to our health. It's our choice: let us live with it. Everything else: meh. *My mind has been on overdrive for the past 36 hours. I need a break goddammit!* |

I have essentially been dead...lol. Mostly from this new job, and internet connection. But I'm still on the Asia thread. Anyhow. I can understand that..."me and everything around me" first idea. It's kind of how I'm thinking lately too. And your right, it's nonsense that politics like this will affect such a personal decision, when it is sort of a persons right to do what they want to (to an extent I suppose). I mean, you want to die of lung cancer, go for it. Maybe they'll figure out the cure. However, I myself am not so interested in the possibilities of acquiring such diseases by second hand smoke? I don't know the stats on that shit. But it seems logical that it could affect someone's system...overtime. Which would prompt such calls, that public places are smoke free areas. I mean, go for it within your own home and all. What is done inside your house, is your business is how I view that. It is also the task of the FDA and whatever else, to aim for what seems to be the most healthy. Which, I guess is for reasons that the damn liberals like Skylar like..."Oooo, so it's all about being a HEALTHY member of society? One that is productive. Ooooo...that's a God demand isn't it? productivity?" Silly liberals....money is for productive people! |

I support this. I'm not a smoker, so it doesn't effect me. But if smoking just effected the smokers, well then I'd say let them kill themselves. I don't give a flying fuck. It'll kill off all the idiots who think smoking is good or cool. It's like evolution with poison. But since smoking also harms others, I'm dead set against it. Both my parents' parents smoked like chimneys, and now my parents have health problems. Way to fucking go smokers. But really, this is a piss poor time. With the fucking huge ass budget deficit, the last thing we need to do is reduce the number of people who pay those already high tobacco taxes. Balance the budget, THEN outlaw smoking. |

Bugs: Lol, I enjoy you're posts. Also, it's impossible to really be effected by second hand smoke unless you live with it. It's hyped up just as bad as the hype that touching a joint will land you in prison for twenty years instantly. (The stigma most kids get growing up if they're in that sort of paranoid super conservative environment. BTW, after having said that.. I am a Conservative for the most part). I'm perfectly fine not being able to smoke in public establishments like restaurants, however. I've NEVER had a problem with the public bans and so forth. I respect that people don't want to smell it, but in some cases they become to unrealistic with how much control they want over the air they breathe. I say go after Factory owners and car Manufacturers if you're going to go after smokers, because that's the more dangerous cause of "second hand cancer" than actual second hand smoke. DaBomb: I would first like to ask you - How old are you? (Not being condescending) Also, whoever still thinks people smoke to "look cool" are no different than the nut jobs who believe the reefer will make you /suicide. Crackzilla: Yup. Rommel: Some enjoy the smell. |

Ah, just wondering. :3 Sure it's a poor choice, and "lethal" but so is a lot of stuff. This one just happens to be one of the optional modes. Oh, and definitely Rommel - I prefer actual Cigars over Swisha's. I just use Swisha's for other reasons.. or if I'm incredibly drunk. I'm for the FDA regulating the chemicals put into Cigarettes, and I'm all for making the Tobacco industries print an 'ingredients' list that shows EVERYTHING. I'd rather them stop their lying and show us what we're smoking - Doesn't mean I'd stop smoking, though. Yet, it could put a lot of emphasis on some to really think about it. I'm not a heavy smoker, however. I'm just slowly becoming one. <3 |

Hubris: Lol, trust me I enjoy reading my own posts...and hearing myself talk. Yeah, I could mostly respect that. And I was about to say that. Get after the factory guys just as much, since they aren't to friendly with our environment either. Your right, if we target one thing that's bad for the air, we should go for the rest of them. However, in essence, going for the smoking may be a little easier, and quicker than going after corporations. The FDA doesn't have control on that. And really, I don't think the EPA has that much in it to do as such either. Besides, China would more than make up for any increases we attempted to make in air quality lol.I don't have a problem with it, if it smells good lol. My grandma smokes..or smoked really bad. She's kinda quit lately though. But her whole house was just...ugh. Go hang out there for a night, come home and be like "Shiiittt...I smell like ashtray." I kind of like those ideas though that somewhat deter people from doing it, like putting a ingredients stamp on there. Much like making people who get abortion to have to see the ultrasound. It's more of an attack on perspective, and realization, rather than principles. |

ACTUALLY... A part of the whole Bill is that the Tobacco Industries will HAVE to disclose every ingredient to the FDA, and the FDA will be in charge of what really goes into Cigarettes. That all wouldn't take full effect until about a year and a half later, however. Also, it's like saying - "Why steal candy from the store when you can just pawn it off that little boy over there?" It isn't fair just because Smokers/Smoking is an easier target. It's also not as dangerous as Factories, either. I love the smell of Cigarette smoke, but I do hate smelling ashy after awhile.. but that only happens if I don't.. I'unno.. shower? Or not wash my clothes? I do both frequently - so it isn't a problem at all. It's like how I like the smell of Gasoline.. of course, you don't want the two to get near each other.. lol I'm perfectly fine with ordinances banning Cigarette usage in parts of Cities, and especially around schools. (Tobacco/Nicotine/Cigarettes as a whole is finally being listed as a Drug on the "Not allowed to be near school" drugs list) None of that pisses me off - it's just the fact that the Government wants to all but kill Cigarettes in the first place. Oh well, we'll see where it all goes.. besides.. I'm not really 'addicted' to Nicotine that badly, and I have good enough reasons to stop here now anyway. |
