So, anyone else been paying attention at all to North Korea's rantings as of late?

Most interesting I think as of late is that North Korea flat out has stated most recently: We will nuke South of the border if you keep pushing us. I think Kim's beginning to see how flimsy Obama is over the situation - but I don't think he truly realizes that in the long run he is really really fucked.

I hope China begins to think on this situation, because I don't know if they'd really be too accepting of a resurging Japan once the Japanese started to feel very threatened by the elevated stance Kim's been taking this summer.

nomnomnom.

Personally I want to see the War turn hot.

I wanna see the attention whore get assassinated. All he really is, an attention whore. When something comes up and becomes big in the media, he does something outrageous to get every bodies attention...I say we ignore him and see what happens.

That's basically what Bush did.

Ignored him, threw some rice packets at him, just didn't pay much attention.

Called him a Hate Monger, the whole Axis of Evil, but Bush sort of just let him yell at an empty stadium.

Now we're giving in too much attention, and it's definitely not what he wants, but it's what his generals want. They want a legitimate excuse to make the North Korean people feel persecuted by the world - and so if they DO go into a very Hostile state soon, they'll have the full backing for at least a good enough time to hurt the South in all out warfare if it comes down too it.

I'm sort of excited..

Sort of like watching a horrendous soap opera.

EDIT: It's definitely not the type of attention Kim wants.
Yes, he is an attention whore.

I just meant that the type of attention he wants is appeasement.
:3

blah.

Yeah, but people like Clinton won't stfu.

Instead, she wants to push their buttons and say that we'll take him any day. Sure, yay.. big balled America, but we don't need to threaten force. Because when we threaten force, it's only because we can't PLACE force there to scare them with in the first place.

US Strength in the 2ID right now and just in Korea in general isn't really at all high.

In fact, I think parts of the 2ID are in Afghanistan/Iraq right now - and one of the bigger units are nearing the end of their deployment in Korea. (I know this because of a few friends coming home for a few months)

NEH - Like I said I'll just continue to watch the soap box unravel.

Yes, and that's about all he did. It's not like all levels of government went and said "we're going to whoop you if you do it."
Obama has been all talk with this peace process nonsense that he did. What about Venezuela? We ain't talkin to Iran. Not really started with DPRK either...

The difference was -

Bush handled it in nonchalance, which pissed Kim off but didn't give him nor his generals what they wanted to start sticking their dongs on the launch pad constantly.

When Obama came into office, just like if any other President were to come into office, Kim decided to take it has his opportunity to start being a dipshit massively - to see how his new enemy would respond. Obama's response? "You best damn knock it off boy or I'm gonna beat you upside yo' head."

Okay, so - Not horrible. Kim says sorry, sort of, but then behind everybody's backs he builds more missiles and starts testing them.

Response?
Clinton and the Japanese threaten force, followed by Obama having talks with other massive nations about penalizing Kim big time.

Bush did penalize Kim. Yet, he didn't do it in the way where it would directly harm the people of the North too badly - He was still for dropping aid, and he was still keeping Kim in check by calling him a baddie.. but he never waved our sticks around.

Thing is, Obama is doing the same until it comes down to stick wagging - He's making it seem like we're all ready for a huge showdown, but the problem is we ain't..

We're too busy with one showdown that admittedly never should of happened, and one that's turning into a dragged out mess.

What's happening is Obama is saying "Bring it, we're not afraid ass hole" but Kim is starting to realize that every time he says "So what? Fuck you, we're going to own you" NOTHING south of the border changes... except for one thing - It keeps getting weaker and weaker.

Clinton is setting us up for a disaster in Asia, starting with Okinawa. I wouldn't be surprised that in the midst of things, she decides to lower troop count in South Korea out of an act of "kindness".

Neh - I don't even care.

Like I said, I just refer to it as a soap opera.

Kim's a moron, but he's not an idiot. He knows that if he crosses the DMZ, he'll suffer for it. The RoK and American grunts in-theater won't stop him, but they'll delay him long enough for the JMSDF and USN to come down on him with a fury not seen since D-Day. In essence, he'd lost his entire over-priced navy and air force within days (isn't South Korea's airforce comparable in size to begin with?), and that leaves him open to incessant strikes on everything from logistics to tanks.

That's not to say it'll stop him, exactly: that'd take American, South Korean, and Japanese troops en masse. But what it would do is severely undermine his military and, when the hammer falls, he's dead to rights. He might be able to pull two tactical nukes out of his hat, but he's still going down: and in the process, he's going to firmly put Russia and China against him.

Basically, South Korea's looking at casualties, military and civilian, in the range of 400,000-500,000. North Korea's looking at a few million.

No doubt North Korea would be utterly smashed in the long run, it's just in the beginning of it all it would look very grim for South Korean and American GI's on the DMZ.

However, you're very much right - There would be a fury never seen before that would be dropped upon his head.

It's just going to be a very bloody war if it ever occurs.

I keep referencing Kim's Generals, though, because it doesn't matter of Kim dies. Especially now since he has appointed his (youngest?) son as his successor. He's making it apparent that he doesn't care what happens to himself now, but his Generals won't be phased by it either way if he were to croak and die the instant he ordered his troops to cross the DMZ.

I would rather see his Regime and Military collapse from with-in, but it won't.. I don't believe it really would.

Limited air strikes to make Kim shit himself. Just do it Obama. Please.

Then, in 15 years when everything (military hardware) North Korea have is worth $5 at antiques roadshow dismantle the regime.

Lucky you!

The only thing they could realistically reach would be anything on the Peninsula.

I don't know why we've EVER joked around the idea of thinking he could nuke the States directly.
