On this RP site I used to be on (Although I was never able to commit well enough), they had a place for open RPing to "get your feet wet". Some people aren't quite ready to jump into the scary, but fun, world that is 21c. So I was just thinking that we could add a sort of practice forum that is more flexible to let people get used to what it's like to RP here.

Whatcha thinkin?

Poor idea. It'd only serve to detract from activity here.

The mentor system sounds like a better idea.

No. If people aren't sensible to learn the gist of the game, they shouldn't be on here. Or RPing. Period. Exclamation point!

I think we should just require RPing samples based on their claims. If someone claims like, Tunisia, they don't need to be a great RPer. But if you claim say, France, you need to provide a sample of your best work.

See, I was kinda against the whole "prove yourself before you can join" policy. I think it really kept a lot of RPers out, for better or for worse. I certainly know that I wouldn't have joined if 2.0 had that policy. This is my first and only RP.

May as well. I won't bother with practicing, but I might mentor (like I have before).

If you guys had asked for a sample from me I would never have joined - my first RP.

Well, we can trace the origin of the Schwer-Recon drama all the way back to my registration as the then-unclaimed Germany. He wanted a simple: I provided a link, which apparently had restrictions. Then I provided a screenshot. Then I made one up on the spot, and the reaction was like "how do we know that's yours?" or something.

Not exactly 21c's shining point.

MODEL RP:

TITLE --> Shit's going down in Dumbfuckistan!
IMAGE --> Posted Image
CAPTION --> It appears a Republican was trying to work on his maths.
[space for taste]
BODY --> Spontaneous News United [SNU] must report that an entire city in Dumbfuckistan was devastated today when a student attempted to divide by zero. Estimated casulties currently range from 35.000 to 65.000 dead and hundreds of thousands injured.

When the confused mind did divide by zero, an explosion ensued, at which point a large crater consumed a large portion of the city. The citizen was reported to be, like the rest of the Red States, a Republican; accordingly, the mistake has been exploited by the United States of America [those atheist Blue Staters] media outlets. Damage control measures were quickly put into place, but it seems as though the damage is irreversible. On location, giraffes with zebra stripes can be seen swimming in local pools; Johnny Bravo has earned a primetime slot on Fox News Channel; Sean Hannity has become a Democrat!

This has been SNU, reporting the latest bullshit imaginable. Now Released: 2112, by Rush!

==================

Seriously, it isn't that hard.

I may need Chernobl to help me out with the beginning of my reign as Colomba. So Chernobl, if you see this, could you please PM me with important things you did so far that I may have looked over?

Was I here for that?

0.o

I was admin for a few months.

Then I got into a spittle with Sel.

Then I was a Mod.

Then I went to boot camp.

How is this related?

It's not.

Anyway -

If you come here and you end up being sort of a 'bad' rper.. don't sweat it. So long you're making an effort, and everyone can see that and see some improvement, that should be all that's required.

The idea is to make realistic-enough or alternate choices for the Nation you make, to ultimately affect your neighbors if not the World. So what if you don't write it all out like a fucking poet - Just don't do this:

"an te gnrzl agruhd taht wi g2war w/ thhe bduh guys."

It's not like you're writing an acceptance speech for some damn Nobel Peace Prize.

Well, no. It means that by all means claim, but claim a nation you can handle.

I am strongly against 'provide a sample'. That is BS becuase for example, I will take me for example.

We all know I sucked arse when I first came here as Iraq in January or something, but I improved by 1000 fold, won 'most improved' (which wouldnt exsist if you had to be proven in the first place) and now I am a a deece RPer an an all around good player.

Remember people THIS IS A GAME, while there sould be order, we do not need to have resumes and qualification to roleplay fictional events.

This is a great site for learning (I have learned more here than all my 8 years of schooling combined) and I dont think we should turn people away becuase we dont think they are good neough AT THE TIME.

Just my 2 cents, which was worth waaaay more (literally) when I first joined this come to think of it :P

Thing is, you can see competency in claim posts most of the time.

I think it's perfectly fair to try to reserve bigger and larger nations for those who are known to be good at those roles, though, and keeping the rest completely open.

Everyone improves. I came here as Romania at the begining of the last round. I was terrible. But I worked hard, now I'm the friggin UK. It takes work. I've had a hectic few years. But I still find time to RP. It takes dedication. You can be a horrid RPer, which, IMO, I was. But with time, you get better. Thats why I love doing this. You really see the rewards. It was my goal to one day play a P5 nation. Now I'm The UK!!! Its a great feeling that everyone should have. I guess I just hope others follow the example of me, and so many others and just work hard, and have fun. My 2 cents.

I suck at RPing, but I am hoping to improve with time, I have tried to prove myself at least by writing longish, detailed-ish things. Hell I love writing, and although I am not that good IMO, RPing is quite fun to do and everyone should be welcomed and encouraged to try their best in this forum no matter how much they suck. My 2 cents although they weren't really useful

That form I created has totally helped weed people out more than anything.

We're not requiring samples. It's worked fine so far.

I'm still not quite sure why people would oppose this. No one has to post in it, but it would give newer people a chance to see how it all runs. It works well on a very successful RP I know of, which I've taken inspiration from for this RP.

How about this

Nothing is required, but put in the form that 'Samples may earn leverage' or something like that if they are applying for a large nations. Because if someone applies for Russia with nothinghtere and is a newbie, we probably wont give it to them, but if they have a good piece of writing alongside it (optional) it could earn them some points and that could give them merit for getting a larger nation.

Eh?
