This Racism to prevent Racism-feeling.

Two WHITE Celebrities die around the same time of Michael Jackson, a BLACK Celebrity, but no news outlet will hardly sacrifice any of the wasted air time they have worshiping Jackson. Granted, it's sad.. FINE, I'm sad - in a sense, but it's fucking ridiculous when the whole world seems fearful of sounding bigoted by having a special on, say, Farrah.. or even hardly mention Billy Mays at all.

SECOND MICHAEL JACKSON'S DEATH WAS RUMORED, THE ENTIRE FUCKING MEDIA CIRCUS HALTED.

I also fucking Hate Obama at the moment (when do I not?). He's such a fucking TOOL.

Wrote the Jackson family his condolences, but I mean no one else is dead. Nope.

If you're going to be this way towards one, then make an effort to recognize the others - at least Farrah.

-ohwaitthat'dberacisttogiveairtimetoheroverablackpopstar-

Oh, I also dislike Al Sharpton. :D

I agree, I think that we should not focus on being fearful of noticing the differences in people. It is okay to notice the differences in people as long as you are not being an ass about it.

Perfect example:

A guy walks in with a ton of piercings and a mohawk. I am 100% he would rather have you aknowledge him and look at him, maybe smile, than look completely in a different direction, straining not to look at him.

I totally feel you on this one Hubris.

I personally think people should stop being dumb asses and get back to work and on with life. So Michael Jackson died. Sad when someone dies, but so what? Hundreds and hundreds of thousands die every day.
What the fark has Michael Jackson done for me, besides be the center of extremely annoying media coverage often that made me wish I was never born into such a world?

I wonder if these morons on the streets actually read the death notices in the paper every day, and cry them selves to sleep over it.

It's not that - It's the fact he's dominated the fucking Air Waves, period, and with-in hours someone as influential to many other people died.

I was pointing out the stupidity of worshiping him and his legacy, because it is solely out of fear of "If we don't, we'll look bigoted and racist".

Though, to be honest, I am more sadder about Mays' death than Jackson's.

It really isnt that at all. MJ was the biggest figure that died this week and probably one of the most influential people of the century. Some celebrities are like presidents. You're comparing Calvin Coolidge to JFK.

Though, to be honest, I am kind of happy that annoying twat is dead and I never have to hear his shrieking again. So there.

Nah, they'll always haunt you - trust me.

I decided to accept the fact that MJ is immensely popular.. no, wait.. I already knew that.. oh, here we go.

I'm trying to state, other than I feel that it was out of the Media Circus' personal fears of appearing slightly bigoted (or being approached as such by Al Sharpton, namely) if they underreported or emphasized his death.

There's just zero mention to any other deaths, really, or real news. The past few days until today have been dominated by it, while more meaningful shit was happening around the world.

I really worded my opening post wrong - but I'm just trying to state that it's stupid, because it's partly based on his race BUT a big majority of it lays in the fact that Celebriosity is a fucking addiction to this nation.

Seriously. i have absolutely no doubt in my mind that racism has nothing whatsoever to do with the intense media coverage of Michael Jackson, as opposed to Ed MacMahon or Farrah Fawcett or Billy Mays.

Most people aren't even going to remember who the hell Farrah Fawcett or Ed McMahon even are (although Psycho, in my mind, is timeless.) Billy Mays? Who did the stupid OrangeGlo commercials? You have to be kidding me? Michael Jackson was far more memorable, influential -- globally -- and contributed way more to the world than the three of them combined. That might have something to do with all of the media coverage.

Racism. What a crock of shit. For Chrissakes, Michael Jackson was only black on paper, anyway.

Farrah Fawcett was probably the single most famous actress of her time. She basically pioneered the "helpless blond in a horror scene" role, and she made every woman cry in The Burning Bed and she influenced probably every actress that grew up in that era.

She wasn't a nobody. She just hasn't done anything in decades of note.

Michael made good music, he was, as Dax said, waaaaay more influential than anyone who else died.

Farrah Fawcett and Ed McMahon die with the baby boomers more or less. Billy Mays, DID FREAKIN COMMERCIALS! Its sad he died, but no one will remember him.

I think Farrah Fawcett will be remembered fairly well, partially becuase of her career, partially becuase of her 'tragic' demise. Ed McMahon wont be brought up, but people iwll recognize the name, and the only people who will remember Billy Mays in 2 years are going ot be the people who watched way more TV than they should.

Who are Ed MacMahon or Farrah Fawcett or Billy Mays? All those names mean nothing to me. Jackson because of his fame is globally known. I could ask a Japanese person in Tokyo, “Do you know Michael Jackson” and they would know who he is.

Maybe the reason why Jackson gets the coverage is because he was a GLOBAL star?

I have to vaguely agree with Hubris on this. But not so much on the basis of race...

I'll concede, that I think Michael Jackson did far more than the other three combined, as far as relations with the public. Some obviously argue that they just don't want to hear about his negative side though. I was looking over the results of a poll conducted in a Springfield, Missouri paper this past weekend, and over 50% felt that his negative publicity would affect him for how people remembered him. It's rather a shame though, that negativity would overshadow what he did. Not everyone is perfect. He did the best he could, at a point in time. To expect that everyone will run at "optimum" speed all the time, is a rather strenuous demands. Celebrity or not.

However, on the other hand, I've never been a fan of the media, and the dogs that are released when things like this occur. The media seems more interested in getting top ratings, and to feed the public (which is a much worse dog) with whatever can be gathered on it. The media is more concerned with just where MJ's kids will go...than quite honestly, how he even died. They also continue, by such a quest, to be the most blatant deniers of general privacy to the Jackson family. I mean, some people thrive on it. But if what the media says is true about how he was pretty family oriented, this is just disdainful that they are exploiting the demise of the family in such a manner.

I know that the Media goes with what sells, I thought I mentioned somewhere already that it's all about "Sensationalism" or "Celebriosity".

It's what distracts and pleases the masses, all the while bringing the Media Circus cash - but, also, the Media doesn't want to appear negative to any group that can really fuck you over if they believe or say you did or didn't do or say something.

I wasn't trying to base it solely off race - just that in a way, it played a factor.

I don't agree at all on race playing a factor. Michael Jackson was just a ludicrously popular celebrity, with the added bonus (media-wise) of being incredibly strange and keeping the spotlight on himself with plenty more weird stuff. His race had nothing to do with his coverage, or any of the other people who've died. If some really famous white person died the same week, like the Pope, do you think they wouldn't get any coverage just because they were going up against a famous black person?

But as for the celebriosity, that's totally correct. There are so many more important things going on, like the Iranian situation or the climate change bill, it's really sad yet expected that the media will focus on this.

King Frederick the Great is a man of contradictions. He loved to read Cicero, but he would interrupt his readings to trounce the Austrians in Silesia. He played the flute and loved opera (going as far as to see them in occupied cities), but he also payed sometimes exorbitant fees to bring beautiful actresses to Germany: the same courtesy was not extended to actors. His letters and memoirs never really indicate that he had a romantic relationship with Katte, and indeed did nothing to raise Katte's family after he became king. Frederick was very close to Wilhelmina as well in his childhood, which indicates rather that he simply sought attachment wherever he could find it: which is understandable, since there was no early modern European Child Services to spirit him from his home -- although the British did make a small effort.

What's far more likely is that he was relatively celibate, given that he spent his entire day working and rarely doing other things. Not to mention he never really seemed to have many 'favorite' military officers on a personal level, as he'd routinely insult and belittle those who failed to meet his expectations. As a random aside, the guy he called 'Leonidas of the Elbe' died in battle. Prophet much?

What is it with Monarchs and them acting like dickheads to their families? I mean take Frederick William I of Prussia, he beat his wife who was the daughter of George I of the UK and Brother of George the second. You would think “Uncle George” would have had a quiet word with Fredrick. It was probably deemed as a “family matter” in those days.

It seems a bit odd, Frederick William I, seemed to act like Alois Hitler and Besarion Jughashvili however Frederick is more remembered as a man who was tolerant if only for Pragmatic reasons. Makes you wonder why some people can take that kind of childhood without it really damaging them later, I mean Frederick saw his mentor and close friend executed at what 18/19? Couldn’t have been a nice experience.

Saying that just reading some extracts of Fredricks letters, he might have been a bit homosexual or at least Bisexual commenting on the “beautiful asses" of the fleeing French soldiers, between him and Voltaire.

Anyway this thread is getting really, really off topic lol. You are right Schwer a true man of contradictions. I don’t think many US Army Generals play the flute today.

,29 Jun 2009 18.53.36] Was Frederick not also a Francophile? Talk about contradictions...

'Francophile' is an exaggeration. Frederick put a lot more faith in France than he should've, to the point where, during the Second Silesian War, he effectively wrote a letter to the French king telling him to go fuck himself. And called one of the French marshals a coward and his troops cunts. That's not exactly something you say to someone you idolize. Frederick best summed up his opinion of the French state by saying it was a "kingdom with a great deal of strength, but no will or spirit."

Of course, he thought the Saxons were traitors, the Russians were cowards, the Austrians were pompous fools, the Swedes treacherous, and the British too reliant on their navy. That doesn't leave much room for idolization of anyone.
