Economics experiment; A thought experiment

While discussing economics for another RP with Zactarn Prime and Ebedron [omg], I decided to finish a new economics type calculator for the new game. It's still in the works, though, since I'm not that great with how the internal parts of a government spending machine work.

EDIT: Download it to use it

I don't quite get it. Are you saying to use the site to type in all of our budget and whatnot and have a file? Or for it to be an engine to...show better exactly what our budgets would do?

It's an excel file. Download it to use it; input whatever you want in the input section, and it can be a standardised budget simulator for simplicity. We wouldn't have to worry about things like "not enough money" since we would have a solid engine to work with.

I gave it a bit of a test drive. I'll say it's bad ass.
However, I'll give some two bits on it.

You have to know pretty much everything about your budget. Not just how much cash you have. But what percent your assigning to it. For some, this may prove difficult. That or just flat out, it'll be an experiment for those nations who can't determine just how much is spent on national infrastructure or health. It's awkward at first...but I think once players got used to it, that it'd be really great. I actually had an error, so I didn't really see my own results. However, if it worked for you it seems ok.

So mucho kudos. It's workable. But like anything else, it would just take some getting used to.

Well, it just really requires you to put something, which players can determine for themselves.

However, a lot of information on many countries is available, regarding percentages of budget expenditures.

So it is, but it's very hard to predict budget growth. Levy a new tax? No idea how much that generates. Install a new fine system? No idea how much of that revenue goes to supporting it. It's interesting, yes, and it'd be great for a game where you can effectively build your country from scratch (like Terra Adversus), but that's not really the case here.

I would attach it to the opening post, but attachments are disabled.

Schwer is correct in that it works very well for a game in which you can design everything from scratch; you can determine everything for yourself. However, I think it's a flexible system, since it can be edited at any time if necessary.

Bugs, can you reproduce your error? As in tell me what you did to cause it so I may fix it in my engine?

I think I just did it wrong the first time somehow.

However, this second time around it worked....mostly fine. The only real major problem I see, is that my minimal military upkeep is...through the roof. Either 56 trillion...or 56 billion depending on the last three zeros there. Either way, it's off in that aspect. GDP Nominal also got sliced in half somehow.

Otherwise, it's mostly right. Like in Social Welfare, 103 billion. That's not the figure I have originally (99 billion). The military procurement is pretty close, at 5.3 billion.

I wasn't sure what to do with the industrial capacity, agricultural capacity and military proficiency though.

So I think it'd be good for one of those nations that's not so established, and the numbers can change more. And maybe as a cross reference for those with extensive budgets that their nations give out online. But standardizing this as our engine doesn't seem to be such a great idea. Even though I'd like to see extensive use on it, and something uniform. I think we should try this for a little while.

If anything for a game like this, I think it will help make it easier to keep track and a record of your budget and spending.

That's what I'm thinking. Not a Bible, but a guide.
