Bit of help with Ubuntu/XP

I installed Ubuntu on a secondary hard drive that was empty that I used for storage.
Install went well, no problems.
However when I boot up the computer, and it gives me the options of which operating system to load; Ubuntu or Windows or a bunch of other options for each, I can not use my keyboard.
I know there is nothing wrong with my keyboard as 1) I am typing right now, 2) when the computer turns on the Num Lock key turns on and I can get into the Bios menu(F2).

I unplugged the secondary hard drive with Ubuntu but I get an error, and XP wont load.

What is going on?

I was planning on using Ubuntu as my daily OS, and keeping Windows XP on for visitors.
Would formatting the Windows hard drive and re-installing XP do the trick?
I can access the windows hard drive via Ubuntu, so I know there is nothing wrong with it. Which is good since if need be I can copy all my file across..

Apparently Ubuntu has some stage fright performing in front of a real product.

I watched them strap him into the seat and shut the door. He might of looked a bit nervous about it but that was about all. I really believe that he knew he was going to be in hell in fifteen minutes. I believe that. And I've thought about that a lot. He was not hard to talk to. Called me Sheriff. But I didn't know what to say to him. What do you say to a man that by his own admission he has no soul? Why would you say anything? I've thought about it a good deal.

This isn't the best place for computer help, but I once asked someone about putting ubuntu on an external harddrive, he said it'd be a pain and a hassle.

The install was actually pretty simple and straight forward. A lot simpler then installing windows actually.

I might try playing around with the master/slave settings on the actual hard drives tomorrow.

I have a feeling I'm going to screw everything up on both hard drives and will need fresh installs. Luckily for me I have an external hard drive which I've backed everything I want/need on to.

It's just going to be a major pain in the rear end installing drivers, downloading flash player, acrobat reader and all the other shiznit.

Try the Ubuntu help forums

http://ubuntuforums.org

Here's one thread I found after a quick search

One guy said the keyboard must be in exactly the same 'lock' state as when shutdown in the previous session, so if you've messed with capslock or numlock at all, it may not recognize for some reason.
For the most part though, this thread doesn't seem to offer any real solution.

I personally never had this problem when I had a dual-boot Ubuntu/XP on my laptop, so I'm not sure I can help much.

Typical core 2 duo desktop.
External hdd is a WD 1tb 'my book'.

I've tried a different keyboard(current one is usb, one I tried was PS2 connection)
Tried that num lock thing, didn't work.
Think I'll have to format...oh well, not the first time definitely not the last lol.

Hmmm. DAMN. I can't format with the XP cd.
It gives me some GRUB error...even though the Ubuntu hard drive is unplugged.
Son of a god damn freaking wh@$!. Ubuntu, what a waste of time. Should have tried the new red hat, at least the last time I tried red hat I could format the hdd if I wanted.
pffftt.
