Chaplain of course need salute! can greed their wives (but no need salute). when you need salute helpers then? when receiving awards from 'em... in fact not only helpers... anyone who present awards to you, you need to salute (when receiving). CAN salute (by class leader) when bible class teacher enters/starts class. when saw officers/helpers outside parade ground, can greed (e.g. good afternoon sir/mdm), but no need to stand to attention (except when in uniform & salute when in full uniform). stand at attention also not wrong, not a must, but a common practice.
