"I want to RESIGN!!~” Dear boys, this is one of the most famous phrases mentioned by almost every boy. This word might have crossed your mind before (or at least once). However, before anyone here reading these wants to make this decision, I would like to tell you guys about some of my true story. As some of you might have known, I, too, am just a normal guy like all of you. I joined this Big Family on 1999. During that time, the Family was still small. I became a private 6 months after I joined the family. Wow! ~ The feeling was really indescribable and was one of my most truthful moments. When the officer called upon my name to take my uniform (that was my first promotion), I was so happy until today that moment is still fresh in my memory. However, day after day, lots of my “war buddies” have left the “war field" including my best friend... I was really disappointed at that very moment when I heard them making such a sudden decision like that. As for me, I can seriously tell you that I had ever had this PHRASE crossing my mind before after considering the fact that most of my friends left the Boys’ Brigade. Nevertheless, God is always there for all of us. Thanks to Him for He has made a good way for me. He never let me down and my parents, especially my lovely mum, keep "chasing" me to BB parade night every Saturday. Starting from that moment, I tried to go to the parade night every Saturday. However, the fact that I was just forcing myself to do all of this but God never let me down. He had made this Family a fun and joyful place for me. As time passed, I realized and learned something very important and invaluable. Even in any training camp you had attended, there would not be a person telling you all these. In any activities held by BB, there will always be joy, fun, pride, excitement, happiness, sorrow disappointment, sadness, and sometimes a wrath of despair or even the joy behind the success of good teamwork and strong esprit de corps. All these can only be felt by each of us due to the existence of each of us. This simply means that even the slightest character play a vital role in keeping all of us together till the end. Those people can be described as "THE HERO BEHIND THE SENCE". A big family can’t possibly be formed with only a few of us but it needs them too… On the month of April 2003, I had been promoted from a private to a lance corporal. Nevertheless, the others who were not promoted might have thought that it is the end of the road for them in the Family. They thought that they are useless and only a burden to the company but actually not. Some might have even thought that they had deserved the rank than the others who were promoted. In the end, one by one left the Family with their sorrow and despair or even hatred bore in their mind. For me, it was a tough and indecisive situation. At that moment, there was no doubt that I had been very happy but at the same time I felt sad and sorry for the others, especially my friends who were not promoted. Should I have shared my joy and success with them or should I have kept it to myself only and give them my sympathy? It was indeed an impossible question to answer… Still, I realized my duty given to me in this Family. From that historical moment, I had ‘banned’ the PHRASE from crossing my mind again. I promised to myself that I shall continue my ‘duties’ in this "war field" till the day that I am no longer needed. From this post given to me till what I am now, I had been trying to achieve and give what I could serve to my company. Even though some matters are almost impossible to be done, still, I trust in myself, I trust in God and yet, I manage to do almost all of the impossible things given to me. Thank you God for your blessings and help given to me throughout my entire journey in BB. May be most of the boys will be thinking that I'm stupid enough to do all of these but try to think this seriously yourself. If I or even you were not to do all of these, who will? To me, "RESIGN" is not a solution to all our problems we faced in BB but instead an excuse to run away from the reality. Try to think these again. If you know that you will be going to resign or quit from this Family, why did you want to join this Family last time? Because of friends? Or for the sake of a good record in your co-curriculum card? If so, why did you waste a lot of time and effort trying to be together with the Family? Try asking that yourself. Still, we could not force someone to stay with us if that’s his will. We could only ask him for the reason and give him a word or two. However, that does not mean that you stop doing so. We should always advise that person to stick together with us excluding the fact that he had joined the Family for just short time or even a long time. On the day he had joined this Family, he shall be our buddy, our friend, our teammate, one of our family members. A member in a family is just like a pyramid. A pyramid needs a very strong basic to form the top and ours are just like the basic of the pyramid. Without you and me, the top could never be formed. Without the boys, the NCOs and the officers, there shall never be an organization called the Boys’ Brigade. For those who had had the word "resign" crossing his mind before or even now, I hope that you will think all about it carefully. Think from within your deepest heart. Are you joining this for nothing and trying to prove that all your effort and time spent are just a waste? Just because that you have had a busy and packed schedule, u want to quit? Or because of the little difficulties and challenges you faced, you want to leave the Family? Does that worth it? For my "war buddies" who have had this phrase crossing their mind before, if they had really thought about it over and over again through their mind and soul, we respect your decision made whether to stay or not. Nevertheless, we will certainly feel sad whether you quit this family due certain reason or for no reason. This Family will always need you all now and in the future too. Just like a group of army. There can’t only be a Captain in the army, who’s going to carry out all the missions? There must certainly be a group of soldiers to do so. In the Boys’ Brigade, the same concept held. There must certainly be boys who are willing to carry out the goals set by our Captain. A FAMILY could never be built up without YOU and ME. Please remember this well. I respect all of the "war buddies" and the decision they had made. However, for those who are still within the Family, please...please...THINK A FEW TIMES BEFORE YOU MAKE THIS DECISION!!! As I had said, the Family cannot stand without you and me. So, please think twice before any of you make this decision. No matter what decision you had laid out from within your heart, we shall respect it and wish all the best for you. Lastly, I would like to thank those members that had been working so hard to keep all of us together because without you and me, there shall never be a Family. Remember this well, no matter whom you are or which role is given to you, you are still one part of this Family, one of the pillars in the Boys’ Brigade.
