Ahahahahahah~!  I just did this question this afternoon at my tuition center - ITS Lol My friend gave the same question to me too:Tiong wanted to buy a car cost $97. However, he did not have any money in his hand. Therefore, he went to borrow $50 each from his two best friends - Ali & Baba. $50 from Ali and $50 from Baba, so the total amount Tiong borrowed is $100. He went to buy the car and got $3 change back. He gave Ali & Baba each $1. $1 for Ali and $1 for Baba. That's mean he got $1 remaining in his hand. So, the debts he own for Ali & Baba is $49 each. Adding it up, he own both man $98. So, if the debt - $98 and the remaining money - $1 are added up, the total amount is $99. So, the question is, where did the other $1 go to? This is the question given to me Lol At first, it was quite confusing
 but finally I got it solved la with much effort. I agree with Alvin's explanation, the best one I think
