Drops of water trickling down the face till the legs, it's irritating and the word "perspiration" described it all. It was a hot afternoon and the rays of the Sun was shining down on us as if there was no atmosphere protecting the Earth, it's as if we're in the blazing hot summer in Melbourne, where deaths of nearly 200 unfortunate people occurred due to the heat and forest fires. Will we end up in the same fate? Well, luckily, we're fortunate to be in Kuching, having our weekly parade in Pandungan Secondary School. Well, as expected, not many members turned up for the parade as both schools, namely GRSS and KTSS were having extra classes, and most importantly, it was Valentine's Day! Of course, for those who put their lover as their first priority; will be out dating with his girl, whereas those who have the heart would rather come to attend this parade. So yeah, that is where the majority of us, although mostly reluctant, ended up at. We started off the parade with our orderly sergeant of the week, Lcp. Jesmond Siew (me) leading the opening parade. After that, we continued on with what we've been doing intensively these few weeks- GAMES sessions! Some of us were wondering what kind of games we're going to play that afternoon- is it going to be torturing, is it going to be fun, or is it going to be boring? As for those pessimistic members, without even trying to think about it, assumed that the games were going to be boring and brings not much fun. Well, which was it? We'll see about it. The games session started of with a game which is widely played in most of the events as it is one of the most effective way to get to know one another, as there are a few new recruits that we do not really know that well and would like to know them further, in detail. We sat in a few circles and everyone was to introduce themselves. Then a representative was to stand in the middle of the circle holding a bunch of newspaper that is folded up into a stick. The real game begins! A person sitting in the circle surrounding the representative was to shout out a name and the one holding the bunch of newspaper was to hit the person whose name was being called out. To avoid being hit, he has to shout out another person’s name. So, this game went on like a chain, for most of the people were witty and reacted fast for being hit, as the consequence for being hit was that he is supposed to change roles with the one in the middle, and the game carries on. After approximately 30 minutes of the game, boredom began to show itself on a few faces as most of us knew each other like the back of our palms. Cpl. Dennis Kho, being the games-in-charge person realized it and without procrastinating, immediately began his next activity - station games. The word “station” defines it all. There were four stations, each hosted by its respective judges. Everyone was divided into 4 different groups and was told to go to different stations. Each group, or rather called team, has its own capable and reliable leader, as he was chosen through what we practice nowadays in the society, even in choosing our state leaders, - voting democratically. The first station was taken in-charge by our Lcp. Tay Tze Loong. Many empty tins were filled with water and were placed on the floor. Then each team member were to show off their shooting talents by aiming the tins and knocking them down by throwing tennis balls towards them. Well, as each throw was just expected to knock down just a tin, some lucky throwers managed to cause 3 tins to fall in a throw. I guess we have just found a few potential aimers out there! The next station was being hosted by Lcp. Jesmond Siew and Cpl. Jasper Loh. 2 plates filled with flour that is mixed along with 3 different kind of ingredient. Red beans – 2 points, green beans – 5 points and lastly, barley – 10 points. Each member was to hold a plastic spoon in their mouth and take ONLY a bean out of the plate. Each bean carries its respective points. The game went on and on under the hot sun. The following station was situated at the parking lot of motorcycles under the shade. Cpl. Lee Jia Haw, the one in-charge, explained the rules of the game and the game commenced after that. 5 cups filled with water were placed on a table vertically and a ping pong ball was placed in the first cup. By successfully blowing the ping pong ball from one cup to the last, only then marks could be gained. Many failed to do it as the ball was very light. The last station was hosted by Cpl. Dennis Kho being assisted by Cpl. Alvin Thia. Being the highlight of all games, it was interesting and fun. Before any team arrives to the station, Cpl. Dennis Kho would hide and Cpl. Alvin would tell the team that the game will not start until Cpl. Dennis is found. So everyone went around looking for him as if they have lost a jewel. Well, every team managed to find him although it took quite a period of time, but that was not all! More have been installed. Cpl. Dennis suddenly announced that the material needed to play this game is lost and needed the team to find it. So yeah, the “hide-and-seek” went on again. After everything was found, everyone was relieved as the game could finally begin. Have you ever see a person crawling quickly like a dog running to its owner? Well, all have been observed and experienced at this station. Each team member was to run on four legs on 2 connected tables in order to reach to the other end to get a candy out of a plate of flour to earn their points. Of course, without having any doubts, everyone’s face was white in color like a clown in the circus. After all the time having fun, we gathered in a classroom where we all had our refreshments. Everyone was talking about the games and it became the topic of the day as everyone had fun. After filling up our bellies, we all headed to the assembly ground for our closing parade. The whole parade ended well and everyone had fun on this “special” Valentine parade. We were very fortunate and were blessed by God as just a couple of few minutes after it all ended; drops of water began falling down from the sky. Everyone headed for shelter waiting for the arrival of their parents and to go home after such a tiring but fun day. This has been a very unforgettable experience as every moment in the Boys’ Brigade, we are serving God, as everything we do, as long as we’re doing it for Him, it is His pleasure and most of all, it is His arrangement that we are all get to come together and bring him praises. Praise be to Lord. =) Happy Valentine’s, everyone. Do not forget that this is the day of love and we should not forget about our love for God. -Lcp. Jesmond Siew- |

I JUST NOTICED THE EXISTENCE OF THIS POST!!! lol... wow... it's a really gud one... but sadly, this practice must have stopped sumtime when i'm back from NS camp rite? actualy this kinda practice can be done weekly... but the thing is ther's no1 doin it.. i'd suggested that the orderly sergeant should and is advised to post at least a feedback or a 'de-brief' of that particular company parade night.. not necessary this long.. *this is very encouraging n job-well-done..* a little feedback of tat particular parade night is good enuf.. like the problems occurred.. any special incident happened... etc.. at least others out or away of 2nd kuching company know wad's goin on.. at least proved that we r active... n the coming up orderly sergeant will noe what to take note when he's doin the coming parade night orderly.. i really hope ther's 'fresh' NCO or current NCO looking at this... n reply... n say sumthing from themselves... i'll b really happy if there is.. o.O |
