Games that deserve more credit....

I've been playing Lost Planet: Extreme Condition for the past few days (Steam had it for 5 bucks over the weekend), and I really must say that its one of my favorite shooters. However, I noticed that reviewers generally gave it "meh" scores like 6 or 7. Obviously the opinions of reviewers don't really matter to me, but I found it interesting that for once I really enjoyed a game that reviewers didn't. I remembered that NFK once made a "games that are supposed to be good but aren't" topic, so I decided to make this topic as its opposite, games that are supposed to be bad but aren't.

So? Anyone think that some of their favorite games are underrated?

Starcraft ghost was supposed to be good.

But it never came! Like if it was a ghost...

But seriously, the PW series is great, and the reviewers don't like it so much.

ITT we post games that are subjectively good, not objectively!

I like Star Ocean 3 a lot even though it's pretty average overall.

I had to sell Lost Planet. I wanted the game to be good but it couldn't get over the bad control hump and terrible level design and objectives hump. Everything else was pretty good.

I think a lot of people expected da Blob to be horrible but it turned out good.

I am a big fan of Chromehounds. Reviewers complained of slow moving mechs, and a bunch of other stuff, but it's suuuch a good game.

TimeSplitters series [Because people STILL call it a Halo ripoff although the series was out before Halo]
Psychonauts [Because it's INSANELY underrated and easily overlooked]

Definitely Time Splitters. Also, Road Rash.

I wholeheartedly agree with Psychonauts.

The Bouncer is another of those, in my opinion. It needed a lot of tweaking, but that game had so much potential.

Fallout 3 never really got much attention, even though IMO it was epic. Same goes for Dead Space. That game was so good, it kept me wanting to find out what happened next, even though I typically rush through horror games instead of exploring them more. IIRC it didnt get much of a response either.

Windwaker comes to mind. Rune Factory 2, the Phoenix Wright series, N+ for DS.

The N series in general is pretty underrated. I forgot about WW, because that was the era of "ZOMG GRAPHICS > ALL", it really deserved more credit, because I rather liked the graphic design.

What? Fallout 3 got way too much attention. The game won a crap load of GOTYs, and the general gamer population is very familiar with it (meaning, just your average teenage 360 owner). Don't see how that could have had anymore attention than it did.

Dead Space probably got as much attention as it deserved. A lot of people know about it, but the game is just very good--not super stardom quality.

Yea, I agree with NFK. TenSpeed, it even says on the box that Dead Space won game of the year for a certain catagory

Uuuh... WW is NOT underrated at all. <.<;

It was when it came out, yes. But it is a great game with people saying that.

Now, Nuts and Bolts deserves more credit. Any game where you can make a flying dick shoot missiles at an oversized stone witch head is win.

Viewtiful Joe.

Enough said.

EDIT: I should explain myself. It got good reviews from what I can remember, but almost everyone I know (and some of them are pretty heavy into games) either never heard of it or just kind of shrugged and passed it up. It deserves so much more than that.

I dunno, I still get the "THE GRAPHICS SUCKED!" view even as of today, so I'd say the game is still somewhat in the "underrated" section.

I LOVED VJ, although the DS game kinda ruined the series IMO. VJ1 and 2 were hard as hell when trying to unlock the last characters on Ultra V-Rated mode and pretty much anything 1-2 shotted you unless you were in close-up mode 99% of the time.
