What is BDC's opinion on hacking?

NOTE: Discussions like this are fine, but please don't post anything about how to actually hack in the games. If you want to know how to do something, PM the person, do not post it on the boards. If you post anything about hacking techniques, your post will be deleted. Continued violations of this rule will result in further punishment. But none of you are dumb enough to do that, right? Good :D ~ptfreak

I was just wondering how far you're willing to go with hacking? Do you frown upon its shadow? Do you cast hackers out and refuse to game with them? Do you ask hackers for help to avoid getting your hands dirty, or do you just not care? Let's use Pokemon for an example:

Hacking a Macho Brace to EV train
Hack a few Masterballs to nab those pesky runners
Hack 999 Rare candies to quickly level up your team
Hack event items simply because Darkrai is your favorite Pokemon (Guilty)
Make Darkrai shiny because purple Darkrai=sex (Also Guilty)
Hack IVs of your team (Kinda too far at this point IMO)
Lv. 100 Shiny Arceus that is Ghost/Dark with Wonderguard and 999 in each stat holding the holy grail whilst chargin his lazer
Chuck Norris hack (NOTE: WILL crash your game)

Personally, once it gets to the point that it gives you an obvious advantage in Online play is going too far IMHO.

Nothing about hacking. You must be thinking ROMS which are TOS illegal.

Anyway, so long as it's legit hacking, and both players agree it should be allowed. In a tourney, no, but I've used an AR for:

-TMs. I'd rather not have to start a new game or bother with GameFAQs for the endlesse EQs needed.
-IV checking. SO USEFUL
-Fast hatch.
-And I used an AR code to re-battle Heatran, cause I didn't Soft reset him my first time.
-I also used walk through walls and crashed my game =D.
---
---
-Coding EVs or IVs in, again, should only be allowed of both players agree. That way it's like shoddy battle + Animations. IF I were to hack IV's I'd have like, 1 31 at most, which would be worse than something I'd breed, cause I'd need 2 31s AT LEAST.

Hacking masterballs is fine by me. resestting for runners is hell already.
Hacking Rare Candies? Go ahead. That doesn't offer much of an advantage.

hacking's fine as long as you stay within the games boundaries in pokemon.

For any other game, single player hacking is whatever, go for it. when you start giving yourself god mode in multiplayer though, that's when you're lame.

I'm fine with hacking for things that are already in a game, like Master Balls or Rare Candies, but things that start interfering with competition in multiplayer games don't fly with me. And complaining about something that someone does in a single-player game is a total douchebag move.

The moment it gets involved in anything multiplayer it's too far. Hack single player games to death whenever you want though

Depends on the hacks. I know about the hacks of MKWii and I personally don't give a crap if the people using the hacks just screw around with them [AKA 4TL players], but people who use hacks for self benefit, winning or bragging purposes, because they downright suck at the game irritates me.

If people use hacks for amusement, then I have no grudge against them.
If people use hacks just to win / think they're the best, then I look down upon them

In pokemon, I don't care if people use hacks to speed up breeding or get rare candies (I used to do that too). Hacking pokemon to have perfect IVs is lame though. (I actually did that a couple times too TBH)

hacks have pretty much been around since the nes days I am not sure if sooner. They were in the form of button codes put into the game. My opinion is if you by the game or system you have the right to do whatever you want with it you own it. HOWEVER if your gonna go on-line and force poeple to play in away that is not in a game well then your a huge dbag. there is only one exception to hacking i am okay with online and that is stuff that benifits both poeple like in mkds when we could get the offline levels. i have first hand experience with that being one of the first to get into that and I could tell people apprechiated it and it brought new life into the game. but then there was the infinite life hack in mph me being one of the first to point it out (and no one believe me) and that stuff is so lame. if you cheat and brag about beating a game your just lame in general...however cheap tactics are always okay.

I don't mind single player hacking. As for multiplayer, if the hack gives the player an advantage, then I am against it. Other than that, no.

Hacking b****es in multi are annoying, but seriously, what's wrong with hacking single player? I don't really care, some things ruin fun (AC:WW omg) but others are fun (modding Fallout 3 PC). I guess it just depends.

So if you're playing Pokemon online and the other guy starts out with shiny Mewtwo, even though he did not hack any of the stats, only the Shiny status (which doesn't give him an advantage) are you seriously going to consider the competition fair?

I think he means if you hack for playing Single player ONLY, but I can understand where you're going though.

Of course the competition would be fair. The team would just be using an alternate jersey.

Regardless, I am totally against hacking that in any way:

1) Devalues the rarity or value of an item/status/character.
2) Gives somebody an advantage.
3) Lets them obtain in-game items without having to work for them (similar to 1)

I don't care if people hack in multiplayer for things that you can't obtain normally, as long it gives no advantage other than aesthetics.

I don't care if people hack just to play around, but as soon as they take it online into public, random matches, I care.
