So...it comes out tomorrow and idk whether to upgrade. I still have the original since I never bought the Lite. and I'm not sure how much better the DSi is than the Lite. I mean, there's no backwards compatiablilty and the camera's on the DSi are only .3 megapixels. What makes the DSi a good buy? |

Nothing. You're losing 30% battery life for a freaking built-in camera and a DS that doesn't have a GBA Slot...there's no point to it =/ |

so would it be better to just get a Lite? Because my original is cracked so i don't even use it that much. The only th8ing about the DSi that sounds remotely interesting is the online shop, but thats already on Wii. So I'm not convinced whether or not to get the DSi or the Lite |

Lite has better battery life and the GBA port while the DSi has shorter life, the GBA port got replaced with DSi port and the screens are larger Width 137mm Length 74.9mm vs Width 133mm, Length 73.9mm There's a decent comparison to the two on Kotaku http://kotaku.com/5057883/lets-compare-the-ds-lite-and-the-dsi |

I'm in the same position as you, I still have the original DS and not sure which to buy of the Lite or the DSi, tbh i've not been utterly convinced by the DSi. |

DS Lite has squishy buttons. DS and DSi both have clicky buttons. |

The new features aren't of any use to me really. If I want to take pictures, I will take my camera. I also have a phone aswell. I will not take my DS specifically to take pictures. It has 0.3MP. That kind of thing would disgrace a phone these days. And in a screen that thick, I can't see the sensors being that brilliant either, and the lens is hardly going to be stellar. No-one will be using the camera for anything outside of silly snaps and in-game functions. If you use a brand new 0.3MP camera in 2009 you deserve to be shot. If I want to listen to music, I will take an MP3 player. It can start up in a couple of seconds and I don't have to mess around with it. With a DS, for one thing it doesn't even play MP3s. It's not a dedicated music-listening-to platform. The iPod may be an over-priced style icon, but it still does what you need it to, play music discreetly and easily. Who would honestly use a video game console to listen to music? I have done it maybe once in my life. Edited by Big G, Apr 5 2009, 11:26 AM.

I put music on my flash card sometimes, and Moonshell plays it pretty well through my DS. However, the biggest setback for me on getting a DSi is the anti-flashcard protection. No thanks. |

I use my PS3 for music sometimes, but it sucks that you can't listen to it while playing games like with the 360 can do. Most of the time though, I'll just use my iPod, mute the TV, and turn my iPod volume to max so the music can blast from the speakers / headphones without me having to wear the headphones. Well, can't really blame nintendo for that, but i'm sure someone will have found out a new way to crack the DSi if it's that important to you, and if they haven't I doubt it'll be too far off.

Nothing is uncrackable. Asides, even if someone cracks the DSi, it's still a crap "Upgrade" for the DS considering it has useless features in exchange of saccing battery life |

In addition to what Gurpal said about the MP3 function, the DS Lite has terrible sound output to begin with (even worse than the iPod's output...disgraceful), so if you're trying to listen to any type of music that has texture, I'm sure it'll sound terrible on the DSi too. |

I have Sennheiser HD-555 headphones (definitely not the best, but a cut above quite a few brands of phones) and after doing extensive listening to music, both .flac and 320kbps mp3, on my PC (which has a pretty good sound card), listening to my iPod is like listening to the song playing in another room, even when I use a headphone amp with it. I feel like I have to strain my ears to hear nuances in many songs, and while turning up the volume seems a good solution at first, it doesn't solve the problem at all. It's possible that you don't have anything better to compare the iPod's output to DL, because I used to think my $25 earbuds and iPod had superkool sound quality. Obviously I dunno though. |

My headphones cost $100, they're one of the best currently out, so I guess you can say I'm going based on high quality speakers. I know what you mean though, my computer has a good sound card as well. Songs that are muffled on my iPod, they sound perfectly fine on my Computer. I think it's the encoding that affects it >_> |
