![]() A YouTube video of what appears to be the next issue of the PlayStation-focused video magazine Qore has revealed that Sony will be unveiling a new PSP model, the PSP Go at E3. YouTube Video of PSP Go Features: *3.8in screen (versus 4.3in of the original PSP) *40% lighter than original PSP *Slide-out gamepad *Downloadable games and movies (no UMD drive = longer battery life) *16GB of on board flash memory *Memory Stick Micro slot for expandable memory *Bluetooth A new Metal Gear Solid game for the PSP and Grand Turismo Mobile are also expected to be announced at E3. I think this redesign is interesting (definitely more-so than the previous PSP 3000 model), but overall I am disappointed once again. First and foremost, there is STILL no second analog stick! I understand that this is not a PSP2, but I think it should be. It is different enough from the previous PSP models to be a completely new version of the PSP. Many people are arguing that if they added a 2nd analog stick, owners of older PSP models wouldn't be able to play upcoming games that require the 2nd analog stick as a necessity. This is a good point, except for the fact that Sony has already revealed that some new PSP games will be download-only anyway, meaning they'll only be available on the PSP Go. My other complaint is that previously purchased Memory Sticks and UMDs will become useless, the same way the DSi made GBA cartridges useless. Overall, I think the new PSP Go is great for people who don't have any of previous PSP models and might be worth looking into for some owners of the previous models. I, however, would rather stick with my current PSP 2000 and wait for an actual PSP2 with a second analog stick. Edited by js2393, May 31 2009, 01:36 PM.

It seemed like a good idea but after watching that video... not really convinced it's a fun portable system. He mentioned something about how they would make games more easier to play and something you'd play on the go for 15-20 min before putting it down-- that doesn't sound fun at all to me. I like the perks of built-in 16 gig memory and bluetooth capability, but I'm worried about the sleekness of the design. The d-pad looks crappy like its predecessor and the overall body of it-- drop it on the carpet once, good-bye PSP Go. Also no price was mentioned-- if they pull a fast one like the PS3 saying it'll retail at... $400 USD I'm gonna stay away from it. |

Agreed
Yeah, that's something else I forgot to mention. The fact that he wants it to be a device you'd play for 15-20min scares me. Sounds like they're trying to compete with the iPhone, which is what I'm afraid of. I'm all for the numerous minor games released for the casual audience (like the iPhone has done), as long as they don't forget about the hardcore crowd. Also, the design looks sleek/cool, but it looks uncomfortable to use; especially with the location of the analog nub.
I don't see how the new one is good if the old one sucked. I guess that's because the only thing I consider to suck about the old one it's game catalog and lack of a second analog nub, neither of which the new PSP improves upon. IMO the PSP2000 is the best of them all. PSP1000 is bulky. PSP3000 has screen problems although the colors display more vibrantly. PSPGo seems like the best choice for someone who doesn't have any of the previous models though. Edited by js2393, May 31 2009, 04:26 PM.

So, is this an actual new console or another pathetic update. And that button setup is horrific. |

Just an update. I think they need to turn it into a PSP2 and add an extra analog stick. |

What about the PSP don't you like? IMO it's a great system with potential, it just REALLY lacks good games. I want a DS with the power of a PSP. That would be great. |

IMO the PSP focuses too much on stuff other than games (movies, music, etc.) and it's mad difficult to control. It's cool as a multimedia device, but it lacks in the gaming department. If you want a multimedia device, get an iPhone. |

Yeah I agree. The hardware is good, but Sony is focusing waaaay too much on non-game media. Games are what give it the biggest advantage over other multimedia players, so that's what Sony should focus on. |
