Temple of Kraden hacked

I got a message from Dracobolt on Facebook stating that the Temple was hacked--like for real hacked. Apparently, the guy who hacked the board is working under the pay of someone else and threatening the members to do a certain amount of tasks within a given amount of time.

The reason why I bring this up is because if this person really did straight out hack the board, then this is a concern about the protection of the board--any board for that matter. Frankly, I think if they report the incident to IF, then they'll resolve the problem quickly and look into better protection for their own boards. If it's not a straight up hack and actually a compromise somewhere in the Admin CP, then we already know how to stay away from that problem.

I'm going to get further details from either Dracobolt or Ryu and see what really happened. I do hope they get their original board back. I definitely know how it feels to get your board stolen.

Hm...this is disturbing. I get the feeling it's most likely an admin gone rogue or someone who has hacked the password of an admin account. Either way, thanks for letting us know, we should be cautious.

ToK isn't using Zetaboards, I'm pretty sure.

Also--does BDC really have that many enemies? I don't see anyone caring enough to hire some guy to hack us.

And what do you mean "making them do stuff"? What kind of stuff?

EDIT:

ololol this guy is cool. it sounds like a literal forum RPG.

"First things first - yes, I have been hired by an abject moron to destroy your idyllic little gaming community. Please don't cut and run immediately. As per my contract, I would have no choice but to pursue you to your next meeting place and repeat my actions here. Bear in mind that proprietary - and unpatched - exploits still exist for all popular forum software, so don't think you can hide. With each move, you will lose posts and members and will eventually crumble entirely. That'll be bad for you, and okay for me - I still get paid, but don't get my hacking jollies by using such a simple trick. So, what can we do?

As a sporting man, I propose the same sort of game I give all my prey. I will give your community a chance to save itself by completing certain... challenges. These will increase in difficulty until you are committing almost unthinkable acts to save your community. Fulfill ten of my requests, and I will hand the reins of government back to their rightful owners and depart. However, this game isn't all sweetness and light. Each challenge comes with a time limit, and for each day that passes without successful completion of the challenge, your community will lose one - hit point, let's call them, and there will be one additional consequence, which I will of course spell out ahead of time. Once all ten of your hit points are lost, I will give full control of the site over to my client.

Really, this is the best possible option. I possess the means to destroy you at will, but it is in the nature of games that you sometimes win. The race may not always be to the swift or the grapple to the strong, but there is still no better way to gauge one's right to exist.

One additional ground rule: my client will be registering on this site shortly, and under no conditions will you be permitted to harrass, abuse, or attempt to ban him. Golden rule: He with the gold makes the rules, and since he's paying me, he's god by proxy.

Shall we get started? Your first challenge will be a simple one: make my client feel at home. For one day after he registers, you must treat him with kindness and compassion, as though he were your own (spectacularly orifice-obsessed) brother or lover. Or both. Any rude, flippant, chastising, or simply un-Christian comment will be treated as grounds for failing the challenge, which will then be reset - you must be nice for one day following the moment of failure. And, oh yes, the consequence is: I will search through your active members and delete one or two with the stupidest and/or most inane names.

You currently have 10 hit points. Shall we get started? "

No. They aren't using Zeta boards. I didn't mean to make it sound like someone would be coming within the next few weeks but I was getting at is that if someone could do that, without Admin powers, then it's entirely possible--which I formerly thought wasn't.

Alright, seeing how Kibble already brought it up, I'll discuss the details. Yes, the Temple of Kraden got hacked. No, it wasn't a rogue admin. This guy was hired by someone we banned years ago who has held a grudge. He has attempted many times to hack us with different exploits, but this one worked. He got his hands on the root admin account, demoted the admins, and took over.

We did fail the first challenge, apparently. The presence of two homosexual male members was enough to piss off reapist to cause him to whine. He's deleted those two, and issued another challenge (By the way, Zetaboards are NOT safe. He took over Draco's backup board, which was a Zetaboard.) there. We are required to make 1000 non-spam posts in two days, or he will deface the forum.

I've contacted IF through another one of my forums, the ticket got elevated to management. They're interested, there is an unpatched exploit, and they want to fix it.

Agree. Sorry to you TOK dudes, but this setup is pretty interesting. It sounds like something straight out of a book.

He's forcing you guys to make 1000 non-spam posts in 24 hours?

Wow. What does this guy charge?

Seriously though, I wish you guys good luck in sorting it all out.

Teshi and I did some snooping around with the "hacker" and he's VERY bad [Script Kiddie bad]
Simple "Cookie Monster" injection on the boards and he left a a few "things" hidden in the injection that lets us track him >_>

We're also pretty sure he used the typical "Re-Route Email" change hack which allowed him to ask for a password reset to his email instead of the registered email, although doing it at ZB and IF is a bit difficult. We're already close to getting the main account back.

I don't think Admins would flat out delete members accounts and laugh about it.

It's 48 hours, he's giving us 2 full days to do it, but that's assuming we can even do 500 posts in one day ON A BACK-UP BOARD! What's funny is he even stated the the challenges would start out easy then slowly increase in difficulty to nigh impossible situations not "1st challenge is easy, then all other challenges become literal impossible challenges just to lulz @ you"

Coolest hack, I want in

We could relocate TOK members to BDC in worst-case scenario and keep it underground, but that could put BDC in danger too

Well we're fine for a little bit since our own little hacker was able to revert most of the crap back to pre-hack, but the accounts weren't affected.

No, I completely misunderstood what Ryu was telling me earlier today. He said that "Kary" reverted everything back to it's original way, so I thought it was someone else, but I didn't know that we've decided to call THE hacker "Kary", which is short for the real username he used when he took over.

This has got me interested once again in hacking. Not for malicious reasons, but just in case things like this happen again. It comes in handy. :) Glad to know you guys have your own hacker on your side! Good luck
