Sexual reproduction evolved as a way to create genetic diversity. The Bible says being gay is wrong. Television always seems to depict gay people as being overly sensual and weird. That means being gay is wrong right!!!!!!!!!! For a quite a while I've been an advocate for gay civil rights and anti-gay discrimination. To me, discriminating against a person based off of their sexuality is no better than discriminating against someone for their race or religion. My arguments have consistently been about proving how being gay isn't wrong. But now after much thought and research, I've concluded that not only is it not wrong, but it's also necessary. Think about it. The sex drive is very strong. If most people in the world reproduce more than one child, then the population will just keep growing and growing. Unless we're able to push out to other habitable planets--which doesn't seem very near at the moment--we're either going to have to kill a bunch of people or stop having children to keep the population under control. With society becoming more and more accepting of homosexuality, more gays have come out and admitted. Many of them are in fact proud. And as we go, we're able to see that more people than we thought before are indeed gay. Homosexuality also occurs in animals. http://www.encyclopedia.com/doc/1G1-53877996.html Estimates put the amount of homosexual men in the world at 10% of the population. http://www.gallup.com/poll/6961/what-percentage-population-gay.aspx I think that the staggering amount of homosexuals and the fact that animals can be homosexual only goes to show that it's natural and not a choice. To me, homosexuality is something that is intentionally given to organisms by nature. Many people won't like to admit it, but they've probably had some kind of homosexual thought or dream at some point. But Jake and Bacon, what about you? Are you gay??? I've thought about it. But in light of recent events that won't be described here, I can say with certainty that I'm completely straight. Here's the thing though: What if I was gay? Then would you think any differently about me? I'd still be the same person that you've always known. It wouldn't be any different if you found out I was actually black instead of Asian/Hispanic, or Islamic instead of Catholic. Let this be a statement: You don't have to be gay to believe in gay rights, just as you don't have to be a woman to believe in women's rights. I was told by one of my gay friends that the person who started the civil rights movement was not Martin Luther King Jr., but was actually a gay black man. The reason why you don't know about him is because he's gay. This is not to discredit the amazing things that King did, but it does show a shocking hole in American logic: All people are created equal, including whites, blacks, Catholics, Mormons, men, women, straights and It's the same freaking deal that it was when women and African-Americans weren't considered equal. All men are created equal except for those ones. But Jake and Bacon, the Bible says being gay is wrong!!! 1. We don't live in a religious government 2. The Bible also says you can sell your daughters into slavery and stone your uncles. It also says not to take the name of the lord in vain, so I guess you should refuse service to those who say "god damn". 3. One of the main ideals of the Bible is that there is only one God, so I guess we should go bomb all Hindus 4. Religion keeps changing the damn rules. Recently the Catholic church said that it wasn't heresy to believe in extra-terrestrials. I can't find any logical reason to refuse, discriminate, or prejudice against gays. Homosexuality is natural, religious beliefs mean null in this government, and discrimination goes against American ethics. Give me one good argument against that. |

Um... If each couple had 2 children, world population would DECREASE. It would stay the same apart from deaths before age of maturity. |

okay we all know gay poeple are equal. anyone who isnt is ignorant and not gonna change their mind. if your trying to say they arnt going to hell well that really has nothing to do with anything but your personal religious belief. i mean if the bible says hopping on one foot will send you to hell then your going to hell by what the bible says. pretty much that is how it works. however anyone discriminating about someones rights just because they happen to enjoy a bit of buttsecs from the same gender can suck a pickle. |

So... this topic is a bit out of left field. I don't think anyone strongly disagrees with your open mind. But for the sake of a discussion pt and I are prepared to play devil's advocate and argue with you about how gay people are nothing but trouble and shouldn't be treated as equals. |

Bucs, this topic has nothing to do with my admin status and does not reflect my decisions as an admin at all I think that this is a good thread because it will promote discussion about a topic, gay equality. If you feel that a thread promoting gay equality would be any less credible than another, then your opinion would be much more appreciated with actual reasons |

I don't think gay equality is the best issue, because I feel like gays are not discriminated against in the same way as peoples of color or women were at times, mainly because being gay is not a visible trait (not always). If all gays had a big tattoo on their forehead that said "QUEER" then I think it would be much more likely that some ultra conservative born-again restaurant owner would refuse service to them, but I don't think it would be as big a problem as racism ever was. The main topic in gay rights is gay marriage. Homosexuals have existed for a very, very, very long time, and though at one point sodomy was a crime (and still was in some form in 14 states in 2003 when the Supreme Court invalidated all such laws), it no longer is in this country. In recent years, homosexuality has become more and more accepted, but there is a definite age gap in who is more tolerant. I believe the numbers show that somewhere around 25% (or maybe fewer) people over the age of 60 or 65 support gay marriage, but that percentage increases to around 46% in people 18-25 or 18-30. I'm totally going off memory there, and I don't know anything about the study where those numbers came from, but I do remember the trend, and the trend is younger people are more likely to be supportive of gay marriage. So, taking in only the point of gay marriage, I will say that I am totally in support of it, if for no other reason than I have never heard one good, sound, reasonable argument against it. Many topics I will hear an argument for both sides, and though I will have an opinion one way or the other, the other side's points will normally have some merit to them and make me think about the topic. In this case, I have heard no good argument against it. That being said, I know for a fact that gay marriage will not be fully legalized until older generations die out. Though I support it, I don't think it should be legalized at this point in time, because there is nowhere near a majority of the people that support it. However, I can see when there will be. Our generation is split right around 50-50, and I can see the supporting numbers increasing over time. Each generation after us will have a larger support assuming the trend continues. I am sure that gay marriage will be legalized across the country by the time we are collecting social security (2050 or so) and I hope that it will be legalized sooner. Yes, there are certain states that have legalized it, but these states are fairly far to the left. The red states will take much longer to coerce. |

well Bacon, avocation for something you believe should be changed is a good thing, but here's the thing though, there will never be an end to discrimination, cause believe it or not, discrimination against a discriminator is still discrimination, but I'm glad to see that you are fighting for other people's rights.... and your argument is very well planned and thought out... but to point out the obvious thought being to not hate against a hater or you will be no better.... there are people who will still discriminate, those who will fight, but try to keep an open mind and a calm head about you and you can do no wrong, some people discriminate cause they were born in a time when it was the general thing that was happening at the time, and other cases would be that it passed down from parents doing it, it's just how i see the situation... but still keep up the good work you are doing |

As long as there's two people left on earth, someone will want someone dead. And as long as there's two people left on earth, someone will have a different opinion than someone else. Personally, I don't mind homosexual marriage. I don't really support it either. If it does happen, it will wind up a massive shitstorm, and I'm eager to see that. Those sentences probably don't make any sense because they we're written at about 1 hour interval. Lots of alt-tabbing. |

I'm fine with gays, I'm fine with... any minority. I don't discriminate against anything. But I do think political correctness is absolute garbage. Recently, some group got the word 'oriental' classified as a racist term. What the hell. And notice how it's always white people who are doing these. I'm like, 200% sure that the vast majority of actual Asian people don't care about the word oriental. either way, in the end so long as humanity exists the world is f***ed. You could make a world where everyone is simple grey blobs, exact same in all ways, and there will still be people who find others inferior. |
