Role Playing

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The meaning of Role Playing (sometimes referred to as Rping) is self-explanatory really. It is like playing an RPG game, however there is no set storyline, you create your own character and you say what your character does. Your character travels the RP world, fighting, making friends or whatever you want. It is completely up to you what your character does (within reason of course)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Some Basic Rules

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A few basic things that are essential for Roleplaying.

1. You can only control your own character, you cannot say what other people’s characters say or do. If you try to control someone else's character without their permission it is Godmodding, and many Rpers find it very offensive.

Example

Mark

::Mark leapt at Elbert his hands closing around Elbert's throat and lifting him off the ground in one fluid motion::

*This is Godmodding because Mark did not give Elbert the chance to decide whether or not his character was caught and if Mark was able to lift him off the ground. How it should have been posted.*

Example

::Mark leapt at Elbert, his hands outstretched intent on closing them around Elbert's throat. He planned to lift him off the ground if he was able to get ahold of him.::

2. There are also some limitations to what your character can and cannot do, most of these are common sense really. For instance, your character cannot fly unless they have wings or know a spell that makes them capable of flying. Your character cannot go invisible unless they have something which allows them do so, such items can be acquired in the RP world and will be discussed in further detail later.

3. Be realistic, if your character is wounded it is unlikely that he or she would be able to carry on fighting like nothing had happened. This of course doesn’t mean that if your character is wounded that they cannot fight, but you have to take into consideration their wound and the seriousness of it and how this would effect how they fight.

4. Your character will tire during a battle, yet again common sense. The amount they tire by can very depending on many things, such as how powerful an attack they use, more powerful attacks will make a person tire more than a weak attack. Their race will also come into play somewhat, for instance everyone knows that Vampires tire much slower than humans, due to their supernatural skills. But in the end you have to remember, regardless of your race or any other aspect, your character will suffer from the effects of fatigue and you must show the effects of this in a fight.

5. Your character is mortal. In special circumstances characters may not age, or may age very slowly (such as elves) and thus may not be able to die of old age. However it is important to keep in mind that everyone can be killed.
