Nas to exceed Illmatic (apparently)

Rapper Nas is saying that his upcoming album, Hip Hop is Dead – his first project for new label Def Jam under the direction of former nemesis Jay-Z – may be his best album yet.

"It's probably the best record I ever did," Nas said. "I mean, when you work in the studio for a while, sometimes you think its great, but you don't know what it is until the people hear it. So I hope the people agree."

Due Nov. 7, the album is the fruit of a joint venture deal with Def Jam/Sony Music in January 2006, putting a long and bitter rivalry with Def Jam President/CEO Jay-Z to rest once and for all.

The partnership calls for Nas to produce four albums, with Hip-Hop is Dead being the first release on his own label, the Jones Experience.

He started trying to be a party rapper on his last album which i didn't respect (note to track "You Know My Style"), this won't be better than Illmatic, i can see it being wayy too commercial, Nas should just stick to gritty NY rap, hes not built for mainstream and he needs to realise it, his fanbase is underground, if he tries to go commercial he loses that fanbase like Mobb Deep did, a lot of people i know are Nas fans, i wouldnt call myself a fan but i listen and respect a lot of his music, Streets Disciple was a horrible album imo but then again almost every artist falls off, we'll see what this album can bring.

Its a very big budget project, if it doesn't sell then Jay is in trouble and so is Nas, i can see this having tons of big name producers and commercial aimed tracks.

I don't think so, and Jay can't kill Nas in beef anyway, Nas is a better lyracist, Jay has better delivery and production.

Why would he re-start that old squashed beef with an artist who is on his label though?

basicly i see Jigga as a dickrider even if he is a good artist, he rides what or who is hot at the time.
