Cum On Everybody 14. Rock Bottom 15. Just Don't Give A Fuck 16. Soap 17. As The World Turns 18. I'm Shady 19. Bad Meets Evil 20. Still Don't Give A Fuck When I first bought this CD, I was used to the more commercial Eminem of Eminem Show and Encore, and didn't really expect this. I was like "What the fuck is this shit? This man needs help." I still think that he needs help, but not with his lyrics. This album is amazing, Eminem's best work. Dark, yet light. Funny, yet deadly serious. Completely unique, only The Marshall Mathers LP comes close to it, and even it doesn't quite measure up. With memories of being extremely poor still fresh in his, Eminem's dual identity of Slim Shady spills out his heart about all his thoughts on life. I can't stop listening to it. His commentary on life and its absurdities can't be beat. This album is a must-have. 5 out of 5 1. Public Service Announcement - Funny introduction 2. My Name Is - The album hits the ground running with this classic single. My Name Is is not quite like the catchy singles from following Eminem albums, which focus more on the hook and the beat than the lyrics. The heart and soul of this is in the twisted yet hilarious rhymes. 3. Guilty Conscience - This song attracted alot of attention from activists, and I can't blame him. It deals with a number of situations where a person is in a moral dilemma (robbing a liquor store, having sex with an underaged girl, killing an unfaithful and her partner). Dr. Dre plays the good side, and Slim Shady plays the bad. Usually, Slim wins, and it culminates with Dre siding with Slim and the husband killing his cheating wife. This song, while bit much at times, is an absolute clasisc. 4. Brain Damage - Great song. I was a bit of a weirdo in school and kids would sometimes pick on me, so I can relate to this shit somewhat. This song is crazy. It's zany, foul, and unorthodox, but in a way, is a true song of the underdog. 5. Paul - Skit 6. If I Had - Eminem tells about his troubles and how he's going to do what he wants, regardless. It's a bit crass, but Eminem really makes you see his struggles and what his life like was before he got signed to Aftermath. 7. '97 Bonnie & Clyde - He kills his wife and then takes his baby daughter to help him dump the body in a lake. Needless to say, this song got some heat. But it is a classic. Generally, you wouldn't feel any empathy for a man who killed his own wife, but you can clearly see that the song is not so much about attacking his wife, but how much he loves his daughter. Of all of the Hailie songs, Eminem would go on to write, only When I'm Gone surpasses this song. 8. Bitch - Funny skit 9. Role Model - Eminem again pokes fun at society and what role models are supposed to be. The old funny yet perverse Slim Shady comes out in full. Another classic. 10. Lounge - Introductory skit to My fault. Nothing too special. 11. My Fault - Oh Lord. This song is trifling as hell, but you can't help laughing. Eminem inadvertently gives to many mushrooms to a girl at a party, she loses it, drinks Lysol, and dies. At one point he says "Suzie, I don't hate you, I'm sorry your dad raped you/what you had your little coochie in his mouth." Wrong, just plain wrong, yet funny. This song is a guilty pleasure. Ultimately, he shows great remorse for what he's done, so you don't come off hating him. 12. Ken Kaniff - "You want me to melt in your mouth and not in yer hand?" Funniest skit ever. 13. Cum On Everybody - This is before Eminem did major bangers like The Real Slim Shady and Without Me, but this is a good "dance song," as he calls it, and the lyrics are fresh as ever. 14. Rock Bottom - You really see his struggle in this song, and how hard he worked to get where he is. Beneath all of the insanity, this song opens you up to the real world of Marshall Mathers. Again, classic. 15. Just Don't Give A Fuck - Eminem's whole philosophy on life. He's kind of arrogant, yet he kinds of says what we all want to say when things aren't going our way. This single is awesome and another Eminem classic. 16. Soap - Hilarious skit making fun of soap operas 17. As The World Turns - An extremely exaggerated version of Eminem's life, showing a glimpse into the fucked up mind of Slim Shady. A perversely fun song. 18. I'm Shady - Eminem spits in the face of conformity. This song has almost no purpose, yet the lyrics are just as crazy as ever, and this is a great song. 19. Bad Meets Evil - Eminem's western style song. Very well done, but possibly the weakest song on the album (that's of course not saying much) 20. Still Don't Give A Fuck - Eminem attacks anyone who he thinks stood in the way of his success. His angry, forceful style leaves you reeling and is a fitting end to the great album. |
