i mean if God has blessed u with the ability to afford clothes, which nearly all of us hav im sure, then we have no excuse for ignoring His command. Becoming a Christian means u ask for ur sins to be forgiven and bloted out by the righteous blood of Christ, making us a new creature. Once we have accepted Christ we dont jus continue in r sin, we do r utmost to live as Christ did, for as Christians we are Christs. Rather we submit rselves to His will in ALL things, including how we come before Him, in His holy presence. In the OT the priest before coming into the HOly of Holies, where God's presence resided on the mercy seat, they prepared for the hole year with cleansing, and they put on the special robes etc. Whilst the OT covenant has been superceeded by the new covenant this does not mean aspects of the OT apply to the Christian life. Take the example from the OT and use it! Coming respectfully to God's presence need not be a fashion parade but simply a sign of r humility and submission to God. Even if u dnt get reali dressed up then why do u go to church in a pair of jeans n t-shirt, why not save the time and bother and come in ur pyjamas???? |

he hasn't blessed you with the ability to afford clothes, he has blessed you with a large income, and you could buy cheaper clothes and send the money off to charity, something far more worth while and satisfying. And also did not command you to buy clothes, he told us to use our gifts wisely, that includes chosing where to speng your money correctly. And also God is with us all the time, everything we do is a gift from God, so why don't we dress up all the time? Everything is created by God, thought up by God and done by God, so why should it matter if we wear gd clothes or not. |

its not about wearing gd clothes but clothes that are respectable to the divine and Holy God. and wat i mena by being blessed with the ability to afford clothes is that there are homeless people etc. who basically have watever is on their back. My point is that first and foremost it is the heart of man that is most important...but after the depravity of our souls has been dealt with, by the working of the Holy Spirit and salvation from our sins we are become new creature (1corinthinans sumthin or other..."behold he is a new creatur, old things have passed away...") The problem is that by wearing respectable clothes we assume that is 'gettin dressed up' and therefore this wud mena we have a heart and spirit of pride. I however look at it directly opposite, by coming to God in watever we feel like, this shows forth a spirit of pride, becus we are refusing to obey the word of God, and let go of the old nature, therfore we should come respectably and humbly before God by covering rselves. (dat was rather waffoly, i cnt reali explain wat im tryin to say but i hope u get the idea) |

so when we go to meet with God in our own houses, when we pray to him and when we do things for Him outside church should we be wearing our respectable clothes? |

hmm gd point, but mayb it would b a gd idea 2 wear respectable clothes when outside church and when we're prayin. by respectable clothes i mean wearin somethin that doesn't have anythin setanic (like some of these bands) on it or anythin anti-Christian at all. i think this cos Jews r extremely respectable wen they praise or pray. eg. when a rabbai is writin a scroll, evrytime they write God's name, they take a bath! + they dress respectively evrywhere they go. |

just readin the last few points, and God does not tell us to wear our best cloths, or to go and buy cloths that makes us feel 'worthy'. Infact not wearin good cloth shows that we are humble. And totally, we are in his presense all the time, we are supposed to be setting an example all the time, so soes that mean we have to wear good cloths all the time. And for people who can't afford many cloths, are they respecting God less? I don't think so. And the main thing is that we are believing in God and we are to forget about material possetions, that include cloths, and watches and everything. Hope this helped guys

i agree with huggy here! there is nothing specific about what should be warn and if we take a step back and look at the grand scheme of things i dont think it matters terribly! i think the thing though is that the thing is being is being decent in what we wear... not necessarily respectful..but then as i think when im typing this what one person thinks is decent isnt necessarily what others think. plus each of us are soo different.. like you could have someone who loves dressing in baggy jeans with chains and stuff who is an on fire Christian who goes to church but just doesnt feel comfortable wearing a shirt and trousers.. or skirt..then what are they to do? you cannot force someone out of their comfort zone simply for an outside appearance! |

i kinda agree with u but i repeat my view that Christians shouldn't wear clothes that have anythin setanic or anti-Christian on it. it DOES say in the Bible that our lives r supposed 2 honour God and wearin things with these setanic bands rn't extactly respectful or honoury. |

Yea setanic stuff is bad, but come on thats kinda obvious. So i agree that nothin should be setanic, especially in a church. I didn't say that it was ok to wear anything, just as long as you don't get caught up in it. |

i don't God really cares what your wearing to church, i think he cares more on the fact that your there. If you went to a church for the first time and everyone was dressed in jeans and t-shirts, would it not seem more welcoming than walking into a church where everyone is dressed up??? |

Tradition... it's all tradition... traditionally, tradition has been handed down through generations and now inflicts us.... it is traditional im my family to try to break from tradition..... so where does that leave me? if i accept tradition am i breaking it? go figure. fact is that trends change too and it is only in seeing and identifying a tradition, that we may change or midify the trends involved. For example, daily 100 years ago men wealthy enough to do so wore suits and hats, even builders wore a shirt and tie, so why would they wear their work clothes (which apparently they would wear all day) to church? they didnt. they wore their better shirts and ties which they wouldnt wear to work (sunday best). it was the trend at the time! the trend now is towards relaxed clothing, comfortable clothing, cool gear... never liked that term.... but similarly nowadays builders dont wear shirts and ties, and even high ranking buisnesses have casual fridays. it is simply the trend currently towards casual wear. but still would you wear your lazing about the house clothes to church? that i think the older generation would class as dis respectful. |
