hmmm... religion shouldnt really have a bearing on it in my humble opinion.. i think moral beliefs such as how precious life is and the good of others should be in it though. religion mixed with politics is trouble... if only that it gives religion a bad name!

look how many wee petty arguments we have on this forum and its a christian forum.. could you imagine that trying to be pushed on top of non christians.. as well as arguing about budgets, economics, water charges...

we'd never get the children in stormont, or london to actually agree on anything! theyd keep bickering and whining and bitching even more than they do now!

i think its a gd mix, becus if u hav a politican hu nos and loves the Lord Jesus then u knoe that they r goin to seek the will of God before they do nythin, and that they will definately have the peoples interest at heart, unlike many politican hu r in it for the money.

yes but power and politics can sway alot of people.. when they say theyre doing it for the good of God.. then mess it up its a hell of alot of backlash! look at bush!! religion can be quite dividing and problematic in politics!

No, religion should most certainly not get involved with politics. You can't rule a multicultural society and base it upon one religion. You would be polarising too many people. What about athiests too? I'm sure they want healthcare and education from the government too, you know. And they are entitled to it. Everyone is.

And how do you envisage a Christian Prime Minister having to make decisions about going to war and such? What about the bible being anti-homosexuality, but yet many people nowadays are gay?

Wouldn't work in the slightest.

and beky... let me assure you, no politicians are in it for the money. It's a heck of a lot of work for pretty ordinary money really.

Well what an interestin topic, personally I think why should politics and religion not mix as long as it isnt extremist.
I think it would be good to have Godly people having some say over what happens within a country, and honestly, I believe thats the problem with the nations of the world today ... they have forgotten about God. I think its time we wakened up and remembered that it is Him who is God and Lord of all and even our nations. Yet many "christian" nations are slipping away from God, and whats the sense in that. Israel was Gods chosen nation yes but evry time they slipped away from Him look at the terrible things that fell upon Israel, pure rediculous! And i think as a country and nation, more than ever we need God in our country.
Simply put, God brings peace and prosperity, order and stability. Alll man is inherentely sinful, depraved and fallen, and there is no good thing within us!
But at the same time ... religion doesnt neccessarily mean oppression! Like basic rules such as not stealing ... thats based on religious laws! Yet its accepted across many cultures.
Personally on homosexuality, i guess like they can be homosexual if they have such a great desire, but why infringe upon the rights of Christians? I believe homosexuality to be a choice made by a person, and the effects of sin upon man .... yet like ... honestly and truthfully, such as adoption, i dont believe they should be allowed to adopt, because although they might be amazing parents ad everything and i dont doubt that, its unnatural to Gods laws! And in the end ... Gods laws and the things of God and Christians arent of this world, and why Christians are afraid to stand up and say that, ill never know.
Its a sad occasion, when Christians are becoming more and more worldy and like the people and things of this world under Satans kingdom. Like its rediculous, and you know what, everyone of us will have to answer some day for that! Like we shud be a seperated band of people (no im not suggesting monk or hermit like behaviour) but seperate in conversation, in our life, in our manner, in the things we do. We shud stand out like a sore thumb!!! Not blend in.

And with politicians salarys .... particulayr MPs im sure for some its the money cuz you will find half of them dont even attend the houses of parliament unless its for some key legislation. And if you call £40k+ and then watevr expenses ordinary money, welll i dont know a great deal of people earnin that type of money!

i actually agree completely with kyle here! it should not mix! there is no way you could mix religion with politics without it becoming extremist!! if it influences laws, thoughts, rules, regulations, opinions of people then it is extremist!! where due to one law a number of people and spat upon due to their sexuality, or where another are shunned because they have been forced to listen to a religion they do not believe in!! its like trying to mass inforce beliefs on people who do not want to be forced into believing anything.. but who want to decide for themselves!! its doesnt work!!! it would be anarchy!

i dont think Christians should get involved in politics, as we are putting our faith in man and not God who is over all in control, man is corrupt and i fell the whole governemtn is up the left, any rules etc made are for their own benefit and make them fell comfy as it legalises what they do. obey the government until it seriously comprimises your faith.

but how far do you take that? rebel against what they say until it becomes anarchy? if the government is up the left why dont we do things about it? or else the gov. will always remain up the left and we'll continually run round biting ourselves in the ass as no one has a notion what to do.

gah! take our gov. for example! what a bunch of children who have been told to go and sit in the their rooms and think about what theyve done until they can come down, apologise to one another and play again.. until gerry adams hits paisley over the head with his blue rattle and the whole thing starts all over again!

Our government is a terrible example to use for anything. Within Northern Ireland things are soooo deeply divided along a pretty terrible past and a lot of hurt and anger on both sides. My personal feelings on our own situation, isnt so much that the politicians are children, but that, from within unionism there is the years of murders, crimes and atrocities committed by IRA, which was/is a private army with most definite connections with Sinn Fein, and even still some of its party members (Michelle Gildernew and Catriona Ruane) both failed to comment if they tell police if they knew of republicans with arms.
Sooo really our own situation is quite terrible and something which needs a lot of prayer and i believe invovlment from the Christian people within this country. Instead of complaining about our politicians how they are yapping and fighting with each other, why dont we pray they would make the right decisions etc for our country.

And really ... religion wether people like it or not has set a standard of morals and decency within countries .... like divorce rates are soaring, abortions, homosexuals are gettin the same rights as a married couple (i am not homophobic, i just think they shudnt have the same rights as a heterosexual couple married in the eyes of God) and crime rates are all soaring. Why?
Well to me its obvious because this country in particular has left its Christian faith and roots behind, and really has become a liberal society where anything goes ... sure if you wanna divorce left right and centre why not! never worry about broken homes, children shipped between parents, and everything.
And abortions well sure, it gets rid of a burden to the mothers who think a child wud be such an inconvience, never worry about the right to life that child has .... in the end we wudnt want to upset liberalists. What nonsense!!! like seriously, any wonder the country is in such a state!
People are too afraid to challenge this modern trend of liberalism going on in all streams of life even church life, it would be the worse thing to "rock the boat" we might be seen as "uncool" or whatever else society might like to label people who have standards and morals!

Rant over!

do you not think its because we are becoming too lazy.. to lazy to care or bother that the world is now in such a crap state?!! the fact we are becoming a McEverything society?

we want everything to be disposable, thrown away, easy to get, cheap...without any thought of the consequences or what else is happening around us! ...like abortions, divorce, stealing, mugging, vandalism... no one cares enough, the world is becoming so selfish, bored and self centred to give two flying monkeys what happens to others!

our politics system needs a shake up.. all sides... whether DUP, SF, UUP...whatever... they are all so neck high in the censored thats happened over the last 30 odd years to care anymore about what happens in the future.. they are more concerned with dragging up old things from the past before they come to an agreement and think what would be best for the country!

over here is not one sided... both sides of the "divide" (i have no idea what else this nonsense should really be called!") have alot to answer too!

I WOULD JUST LIKE TO ASK WHY SHOULDNT RELIGION BE INVOLVED IN POLITICS. FOR EXAMPLE SHOULD CHRISTIANS NOT HAVE A SAY IN WHAT GOES ON IN THEIR COUNTRY.
IF WE HAVE A CHRISTIAN GOVERMENT THEY SHOULD BE LEAD BY GOD IN MAKING WISE DECISIONS.

but if you are dogmatic about having religion in politics you exclude so many people, you are biased towards certain healthcare and seem to be forcing views on people.. its like.. well think about it.. if jehovahs witnesses used religion in politics and got power could you imagine what our health care system would be like? religion as a basis i guess would be ok.. but it has to be balanced!
