i agree with you sir, i dont see what's wrong with church, as long as if is being useful, i.e. being used effectivly for Gods purpose. B)

if church becomes simply a meeting place for people with no direction, while gaining no direction from the minister, and all that they are really there for is to complain about the way church has changed for the worse over the last ten years (kids allowed to move, not requiring suits and hats), and gossip about mrs jones from up the street, with no real intention of actually doing anything for God, then then there is no point in church, all it then is, is a brooding den of vipers!

my father and I were having a chat last night. we agreed that, realistically, christianity should be dead simple. coincidentially we agreed that Islam should also be dead simple. however, muslims are now seen to be terrorists, and, apparently justifyably so, is it truly the minority who feel that as their own religion, islam is simple? many it appears have over-complicated it and violence has resulted. an i'm not letting christians off the hook either! we are seen to be hypocrites! and again justifyably so! so, so few of us take christainity seriously enough to realise how simple it is to live for Christ jesus. i think all too often people will oject to this statement, but think about it. do you know hypocritical christians? i bet you do, an on that basis, if this were a primarially muslim society, would those same people be fundamentalist muslims? i think the chances are high... such a pity... :(

being a follower of jesus is simple, it's just a case of beliving on jesus christ, that he died to pay for your sins, that our Lord God has the grace to forgive and forget, and that all we really need to do is submit to his will. reading the bible allows us to hear him, prayer allows us to convay our feelings, and life is the culmination of these simple processes. isnt God good?!!! oh yeah!!!! i should preach you know... lol. ;)

yeaa.. i know what you mean... as in that some people say that they are Christians yet they don't act like that..? well thats what i got from it... from that Christianity is becoming a name/label/stamp for people to use on us to try and 'make us look silly'(there goes my preaching chances out thee windee' :P lol) anyhuu... i would take the term Christianity as the actually someone who is Christian, and i would disragard those who don't live like Christians

because to be a Christian you have to live like one, you can't just walk the walk, you gotta talk the talk! wooot :P lol

i hope thats what you were kinda getting at =]

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ok i was looking at what you said 'kids allowed to move, not requiring suits and hats)... now im going to take this outta context a bit... but you don't have to wear suits and hats to be a Christian... but i know what you're saying about church becoming alot more 'relaxed'..... (needs to clear head.. watching gadget show...)...
so church is becoming more relaxed, and i agree that that shoudn't be so.. it is also being seen as a place were 'religion' is carried out... and i agree that it is wrong, but these images are placed on our churches, and sometimes we just agree with them... mabey i am lucky and my church is pretty good... but i can't see that church is soo bad...

although it can be boring.... now that will sound bad... but its my opinion, its just i connect more with God in worship... and the worship in my church is quite 'old'... and i don't seem as connected to God when i am singing...
i would like to see other peoples opinion on this =]

i love worship, i find myself singing or humming worship songs, even if i dont get the words right. lol. but it's awesome when you can close your eyes, lift your hands to God an feel his power. but on the otherhand, we shouldnt try to find this feeling, then it's just seeking a sensation, like being drunk or high, not a direct comparison of course, but you get what i mean, we must perservere. :D

some sunday for example, you wake up on the wrong side of the bed, get up an are as grumpy as ... well... a grumpy thing, *example left* but, the main thing is to worship in church, esp. when you dont feel like it! then it means so much more to God, that you'r putting him first! connection isnt always necessary in worship, but it doesnt hurt every once in a while. lol. ;)

i said above the main thing in church is to worship God, and i believe this to be true. fellowship and learning are important, but i feel church is the time to come together and give to God the worship of which he is deserving!

an i agree, suits ec are not needed, but, if it'll cause division and angst in the church, and hinder God's work, not to be "appropriatly dressed", i'd wear a suit!

I was just thinking... ( :o :o  )

If all of our churches where destroyed and it suddenly became against the law to hold a 'church' meeting and we where forced into secret meetings (like in China for instance) would we be falling out with eachother over what clothes we wear.

What I am trying to say is
-We must be God's reps, girls cant go parading around like prostitutes and guy's can't be running round like 'hell's angels'... I know this is a bit extreme but you get the Idea.. respectable but don't make 'clothing' an obsession/idol to the extent that we are so distracted about the subject that we forget about why we come to church; to worship, learn and fellowship!

-God see's behind 'the front' people put up on Sundays.
I've seen alot of people putting on their flamboyant 'Sunday's best' with their nice hats and everything in what seems to be a vain attempt to be accepted or 'religious'. But God can see past this, like I've said a few times before, when it all eventually grinds down to our hearts and faith with everything else (religion, clothes, Imustbeagood personness) put aside, God would be more keen to hang out with someone who had his/her whole heart out for God wearing a bin-liner than to be in the midst of thousands of ultra 'religious' clothing/goodworks obsessed people...

Like that song says:
'Better is one day in your courts
Better is one day in your house
Better is one day in your courts
Than thousands elsewhere'
Better is living soley for God than living for peoples opinions/approval.

Don't get me wrong, we should look respectable to God/everyone else and we should try our hardest to be as close to the way Jesus lives as possible but surely if we are truly close to God all these 'laws' (this includes all the subjects like readig the Bible, praying, going to church etc.); should just come naturally, as in we should want to do it anyway?

This applies to me to so don't think I'm being all, 'I'm perfect and your all being silly' :)
I just think God wanted that to be said
B)

oooooooo very nice comment, and yea its a 'problem' within the church to be worried about what people wear!

but im going to do some 'extremes' of my own... not so much extremes.. but a different context.... you are a Christian no matter how you look... and yeas i agree that you want to look respectable, but then again you can't say that someone who doesn't look respectable isn't a Christian...

about the whole wanting to pray and read etc... i totally agree, with your love for God you re interested in God and his teachings, and also communicating with him! =]

very nice comment =]

i think we'r all in agreement with regards cloths! lol

an with ref to jon, i think that if churches were banned, and people persecuted in this country for belief in christ, that the christian church in ireland would grow into truly massive proportions! it's when restrictions are applied that peoplle notice what they'v lost!

you folks have much wisdom! B)

yea, i notice that too, Christianity spreads like fire under persecution like in Acts and in China, yet after centuries of Europe being the Christian missionaries, we are now needing missionaires sent to us!

This is sooo A level RE (again!!!) the early church grew best when it was persecuted compared to when constantine came into power and christians started to get 'sloppy'.

Another thing that I had forgotten (which I think is quite class) is that the devil cant touch us when we are praising God because we are in God's presence, another reason to worship - not that we need reasons lol
