I completely understand how you feel! I'm a prefect this year and it's so scary how little respect younger pupils have for your authority. But then they make you feel like you're being rediculous about the whole thing when you ask them to do something or to stop doing something. I remember when I was in first year how much admiration and respect we all had for the U6ths and the school...things have changed so much! Yeah, in general things are really getting out of hand as far as respect and courtesy are concerned these days. Whatever happened to holding a door open for someone or saying "Thank you"? I sound so old!!! |

I am also a prefect this year and when I asked someone 'nicely' to clean a table they looked me up and down and said "no and you can't make me." I have also been told by younger pupils that I have no authority. When I was in first year if an older person - it didn't even have to be a prefect - asked you to jump you asked how high, you wouldn't have thought twice about giving them any cheek! Also I can only think of 2 males that will hold doors open for you and let you go first they are Peter McNeice and Ross! Wherever did manners go? |

reading that makes me have second thoughts to whether i want 2 b a prefect next year. i remember the times when we respected our elders too. *sigh*.we should bring back more discipline in2 school again (if only). ive heard of cases of teachers getting in2 quite serious trouble because they made a first year cry or by throwing chalk at them when their parents complained (at our school). Not that all 1st. years r bad but every year, i hate them just a little bit more. heehee, we should rename this general discussion "the golden oldies" |

*brings out the tea and buns* i really do feel so old! lol! oh my word! but some of the first years are that cheeky theyre crocodile tears! the problem is probably because they have never been disciplined enough before and when they get disciplined it becomes a total shock! i think parents and media have alot to answer for!! *waves cane* |

hey guys.. wow its been a long time since i was last on this... nice topic... but i blame the parents.. lol but if you think about it the parents are the example to their kids... and if they spoil their kids they expect to get more (and to have more authority) so in some respects it is their fault... most likely if you thin about it... you act as you parents have.. or how they have wanted you to act.. this is probably the same as the younger people in school and outside school.. im sure there are statistics to prove this.. but anyways.. they should respect their elders... but it will be very hard for us(as pupils or younger people) to try and change other peoples attitudes... then again... some pupils may look up to us as role models... so what we expect. they expect tbh i dont know how good the idea of having prefects is... because it is suggesting that they are better than us(well -ish) not that they want to be seen as this.. it is just as a title emm hope i didnt ofend anyone.. but it is kinda true...(like equal rights and stuff) |

yea yea i recognise that and am glad that the school have given responibilities to their pupils... but thats why people are 'revolting' as it were.. because they dont expect to have to be told what to do.... as before i blame the parents i dont want to sound bad they... but it is...

i agree with you! i blame the parents too.. but then i also blame society.. with younger parents, taking away some of the parents rights so they dont know where to turn, taking away some of the teachers rights too.. like if i was a teacher and i had to tell someone off id be so scared incase they took me to court because it was a breach of their civil rights or some crap! |

heehee i liked the 'gingerest' and 'shortest' yea but your soo right... and gays have more rights than us... they are just people.. like us... i dont understand why they are given more rights.. =/ and heres something : the church oposes gays, and churches provide care homes (orphanges), yet they cannot refuse to give a gay couple the child strange and again i dont mean to cause harm with what i said.. if it does it wasnt intentional and i am sorry

Hey hey, Im ginger and I have had to put up with a lot of crap in my time I am rather happy that someone finally took the initiative to stop people, or try to stop people, slaggin gingers just because of our hair colour (they are sooo jealous obviousley lol) (bdw thanks for callin it gingerist and not reddist that makes me reali mad!!! ) As for bein a prefect yep our job is to do the jobs that the teachers don't want joy!! First yrs aren't all that bad (I'm also a form prefect and I love it) but some of them.... don't get me started!! lol And as for parents, some of them relly don't know how to disipline a child!! but what they don't realise is that if they don't set boundries and disiplin them when they are young then they are going to have a reall prob by the time their child comes to their teens! |
