remember that law passed a few months ago allowing professional football and matches to be allowed to be played on Sundays in Ulster? do you think it is okay or not? i might as well throw in the increasing regularity of shops opening on Sundays and would any work at all be okay on Sundays like farming, cooking etc. i feel quite strongly on this BUT who keeps hard and fast to this commandment? i wish i did <_< |

In our house we aren't allowed to do any work on sundays e.g. no homework, housework, revision, coursework etc, etc. In a way its great because I know that no matter how stressful the rest of my weak was I have sunday to kinda 'crash' and not do anything!! However Sunday generally seems to be one of the busiest days of my week, so its generally not very restful!! But then again it can also be pretty stressful because it also means that I have to devote saturdays to doing homework/coursework etc which is rubbish!! As for playing working on a sunday, work if its necessary eg farmers cant not milk cows etc doctors cant not treat patients in a hospital etc. For sport we had a chat with a rugby player who plays rugby on a sunday, he felt that playing rugby on a sunday was his worship to God because God gave him the gift of being an amazing rugby player and so by using this gift he is glorifying God, what he also said was that if you are playing sport and descide to play/not to play on a sun then you have to stick to that decision. Personally I dont know that I personally would have a problem with it, but my parents would. I suppose its kinda each to their own. My views are that you can worship God any day and as long as you have one day a week off work and school etc you can use that day to spend time with God or what ever, God was setting a pattern, he knew we needed 1 day a week off but I feel that it doesnt have to be a sunday, thats just the day that history has picked. |

good way of puttin it. i wish i didnt do homework on Sundays but ive never had the motivation on saturdays. to me, playing sport for fun eg. among friends is okay but i disagree with professional sport being held on Sundays because it means that there r other jobs like groundsmen, ticket people (what ever their title is  )etc. who have 2 work and would otherwise be unnecessary on a Sunday. has any1 watched Chariots of Fire? its a great film about an athlete who refuses 2 run on a Sunday in the oliympics and wins a few golds after that. jonathon edwards never competed on Sundays either (before he lost his faith ).

At the start Jonathan Edwards didnt jump on a sunday but comming towards the end he did. (Sorry to use this eg again) Look at Andrew Trimble - he played last sunday for Ulster, he scored and is now in the ireland 22(tommy Bowe should be starting, but dont get me started on that one!!!) for the game on sat. God has blessed him with that talentand has blessed his game even when he plays on a sunday. Our minister was talking on 1Cor 9 v19 to end this morn in that paul says that to win the Jews for christ he acts like a jew. To win the gentiles for christ he acts like a gentile and to win the weak for christ he becomes weak. So for a footballer to win other footballers for christ he should play football and that may involve playing on a sunday. Also do you watch football on a sun?? |

nope but i watch the occaissional big rugby match. those footballers are just a bunch of whiners anyway.
i think my minister was talking about that subject last week actually .i suppose ur right about andrew as long as its for spreadin the Message, not for his own gains (as unlikely as that is) or ulster's gains. yea i suppose that wud fit into the same category as Jesus performing miracles on the Sabbath. anyway i think we shud at least..argh wots the word..emm, isolate/not support/dont go 2 matches on Sundays whether there r good people playing or not, wait... boycott - that's the word!! otherwise we would b helping people break the commandment. grr im surpirsed with bow  - y did he have 2 leave now? |

Grrrrr dont get me started!!! 1 Rodger Wilson - Gloster (I think) 2 Neil Mcmillian (dont know where hes going) 3 Tommy Bowe - Osprays 4 Neil Best - hasnt signed with anyone as of yet! Ulster relli need to buck up!! they need to start paying these players more and keep them at home, just wait to next year when Trimble's contract is up and lets hope he stays home!! Also why is Bowe not on the starting 15 for sats game?? Cuz EOS relli doesnt like him!! Grrr |

was sunday not just supposed to be a day where you remember God? and if it is a day of rest well some people like to go watch tv, play football to unwind and relax. plus what about places were people really do have to work? we cant make one rule for one and one for another! i guess when it comes down to it, whatever you're doing, you have to remember to just honor God and remember, in a way, that it's His day. |

right enough thats one point ikeep forgetting about - Sunday is to be dedicated to God - i cant believe Sunday services used to be a few hours long. come to think of it, russian Orthodox services still last around 3 or 4hrs
Yea, i dont see anything wrong with enjoyin urself by playin football etc on a Sunday but we shud just b cautious we arent helpin any1 to work unnecessarily. the law still stands though, hopefully doctors (and farmers) are performing those everyday miracles like Jesus on a Sunday. to be honest cooking probably does count as work but what a few pple do is cook their Sunday lunches the night bfore. we could all do more prep. the day bfore i suppose. as far as im concerned every1 should dedicate Sunday to God. doesnt mean u couldnt do the same for sat. and mon. though - i wish we had a 3 day weekend. yike! i didnt know mcmillian and wilson were leaving. EOD's days are probably numbered now anyway.

hmm yea i gota say i think sunday's is to be set aside for God completely...that means not indulging in our works and recreations (including sports...even thou im a huge fan of andy trimble!) Its difficult sometimes thou i gotta say, esp if ya work on sats (as i do) its hard to get da hmewrks fitted in...n i doubt teachers will tak u serious if u say u couldn do it for religious reasons. But my aunt alsways reminds me "them that honour me i will hounour" n believe me it wrks!!! was bogged down in AS's lst june, n kinda hadn looked at my hist n it was on mon aftanoon, n i was wrkin on sat n stuff...bt i decided nt to revise on sun, but crazily got up a 5 in da mornin n startd revisin!...after several coffee's i did my 2 hist exams n results wer vvv gd!!!!! so yea i try not to do homewrks etc on sun. |

Snap Beky!! I didnt revise on sundays and the majority of my exams where quite close together, so for my two RE papers I only revised 2 topics (you have to answer two qus) this was so risky because it was quite possible that the two I had revised may not have come up, but the did come up in both chruch history and Lukes Gospel!!! Andy was saying that what he tries to do, if he has to play on a sunday, is kinda devote his sat or fri (ie whatever day has the least training) to God (he said something along those lines but it was a while ago so I cant rem exactly) which is fair enough like!!! |
