So what do you guys think SU should do next year? Small or big? Or even what do you think should be changed about? In SU itself or its activities outside thursday lunchtimes.. be as radical as you like! Just thought Id throw it out there :)

congrats to all the new members!

im sorry to be negative but the past day or 2 i overheard pple complaining about some of the new members (and old members) and they're going about it in the completely wrong way ie. talking behind their backs and apparently openly dismissing one member at the elections.

Quote:

James 4 v.11 : Do not critisize one another...if u critisize fellow Christians or judge them, you critisize the Law and judge it

ok i accept that last year's committee werent perfect but they never are. it also says somewhere that if u see a Christian committing a sin, u shud firstofall warn them quietly. only if they refuse to listen then go public about it.

critisizing the members without telling them first will get us nowhere and will break up our unity which is crucial. each member has their own personal style and i admit not all their styles suited me but dont complain about it - get on with it!! each of these members were elected for a reason and i wasnt at the election now but i presume it was all done via prayer - i fail to see how God would let the wrong pple get elected. support all of these new members so that great things will be achieved - they have all had hard times at various points throughout the year so encourage them and correct them quitely/publicly when necessary.

to get 1 thing straight about this year - as far as i know each member put big effort into their roles and if they didnt achieve what we wanted dont be quick to judge, since there were unforseen circumstances that not all of us know about. this has been a great year and i wish i could stay another year :'(

I know what you mean, I heard stuff too, and ok, nobody will agree with everything everyone says, cos we're human, but we should all (talkin to myself too!) do our best to show love and patience, not judging the comittee or anyone in SU.

We don't send out a very good advertisement for Christ to the school oif we can't agree with each other and show that throguh anger or resentment. Those in school look at us to see how Christians should be. What image do we want them to see? Us - the failing, sinful people that we are, or CHRIST - the perfect, holy, loving Creator who wishes to show them how much he cares?

I will really miss The Academy and especially SU. This year has been soo good. Open Mic Night was super, as was Praise Night.
The Committee over all did a great job. I agree if we have concerns or suggestions we should speek to them in person.

I would advise you to pray for those who you know that were critical and to remember we are all human, we are all sinners.

To the unregistered quest unfortunately I can't pm you or speak to you in person, as you choose to remain anonymous.

Just a few concerns when reading your post. Telling everyone on a public forum that there is discord amongst SU members seems totally at odds with the message you are attempting to convey. I'm not suggesting that we shouldn't admit; we (SU) aren't perfect; but don't you think as you yourself stated:
Quote:

u shud firstofall warn them quietly

I mean; spoken to those who criticised the committee and expressed your concern?
Did you speak to them and did they refuse to listen?

Quote:

Matthew 18:15-18 (New Living Translation)

Correcting Another Believer
15 “If another believer sins against you, go privately and point out the offense. If the other person listens and confesses it, you have won that person back. 16 But if you are unsuccessful, take one or two others with you and go back again, so that everything you say may be confirmed by two or three witnesses. 17 If the person still refuses to listen, take your case to the church. Then if he or she won’t accept the church’s decision, treat that person as a pagan or a corrupt tax collector.

It is quite clear that the committee made a big effort this year, with some amazing events, great speakers and great praise.

Sorry if I seem antagonistic, but I just feel that even though the post many have been written with the best intentions it would appear you are neglecting the very advice you are giving; assuming you didn’t speak to those involved of course. If you did speak to them then I fully retract this post and you have my sincere apology for misunderstanding you.

u are right about me not speaking to the critics - i am really really annoyed at myself not doing that so this is like an outlet of my frustration for me, vainly hoping that at least some1 will read it :(. i hate confrontation but i will next time i hear someone complaining

thanks for finding the quote btw that was bugging me for ages! oh...and...........thanks for the warning - humble pie is hard to take

I think we all need to remember that we are "all sinners", but if we see people complaining or even hear ourselves saying something we know is wrong or out of place, we have to search ourselves and "take the plank out of our eye" before finding the spec in theirs so to speak. We all will have doubts and stresses about things, whether it be comittee or something entirely different but we need to find a way to deal with them or speak to the people involved in a Godly, loving way.

Sorry if above ramblings don't make much sense, just said what was on my heart, it kinda makes sense to me and I certainly need to remember this a lot more often!! :)

I'm so glad you responded to my post in the right spirit. Even though I'd written it out of concern, I felt condemned my the verse Revive mentioned "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?" As I've been guilty of criticising myself at times.

I too find it hard to take correction, but I've found the verse in Revelations a great help

Quote:

Revelation 3:19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten.

God corrects us because he loves us. So it is my privilege to try to help, it has also helped me examine myself as things; I’ve even said in jest my have offended others.

It has also reminded me of the Hymn “May my daily walk and words and actions prove to all that Jesus lives in me” I hope it could be so for all of us, as I know how far short of this I come.

I fall way short all the time and am guilty of not practising what i preach too much. Its more do as I say not as I do you know?

We are all sinners and nothing can change that, we will always sin when here on this earth but God has come to take that from us, which is just sooooo AMAZIN!!!!!
