An open letter to the grammarless among us: Many people think that grammar is not important on the internet. Maybe this was true once, maybe it is still true some places, but these forums and Nationstates should not be one of those places. If you want to be respected, the first step is to use good grammar. If your grammar is poor, it will take much, much more to gain peoples' respect and, in some cases, you may not be able to do it all. Therefore, cultivating good grammar is extremely important. Presumably, you already know how to write like a non-retarded person, you probably are in an English class now or took one at some point. Unless you failed the class or had the world's most indifferent teacher, you doubtless wrote nothing like you do online. If you simply overcome your laziness and use these skills when posting on Nationstates, you probably won't even need these classes. For those of you that somehow escaped learning decent English, these classes will make your writing look, if not Pulitzer-worthy, at least presentable. - Zinaire |
