All right, so I recently saw Maria-sama ga Miteru (literally approximately The Virgin Mary is Watching), and the second seasons Maria-sama ga Miteru Haru ("Haru"="Spring" for those that don't speak Japanese). And I have to say, I have a new obsession (much the same as I became obsessed with Negima after seeing the anime all the way through). In the past 3 or 4 hours I have accumulated 14.7 megabytes of pictures (fanart, wallpapers, etc.) of Marimite. (Marimite is the shortened version of the proper name, in case that confused you.) I like this one. It's definitely a shoujo anime(/manga). Very character-driven, rather than there being any definite concrete plot to follow. The plot is more just a basic outline of the settings and characters involved, and then the characters and what they do fills in the blanks. There's a lot of dialogue and a lot of emotion. There's no action (in a shonen series sense). Which makes it seem completely unlike something I would watch, myself and most of my friends would say. For anyone unfamiliar with the series, this is how it (the anime, at any rate) breaks down: It takes place at the Lillian girls' school (which features an elementary school, a junior high school, a high school, and a univerity). It's a Catholic school founded in 1902 in Musashino, Tokyo. The story revolves around the students of the high school. The main dynamic for the interaction between the two characters considered the main characters (Fukuzawa Yumi and Ogasawara Sachiko), and several of the other characters is the school's soeur system (soeur being French for sister). Generally, an older student (a 2nd or 3rd year) will ask a younger student (1st or 2nd year) to become her petite soeur (French for little sister) by offering them their rosary. Another important thing about the school is the student council, called the Yamayurikai. It consists of the three roses: Rosa Chinensis (Red Rose), Rose Foetida (Yellow Rose), and Rosa Gigantea (White Rose), all well as their petite soeurs, referred to as boutons (or "buds," as the petite soeurs generally end up becoming the roses when their grande soeurs graduate), all well as any bouton's petite soeur. The yamayurikai is where the series' main characters (including Sachiko and Yumi) reside. The Red Rose "family" consists of Mizuno Youko (Rosa Chinensis), Sachiko (Rosa Chinensis en bouton), and after the first three episodes, Yumi. The Yellow Rose family consists of Torii Eriko (Rosa Foetida, 3rd year student), Hasekura Rei (Rosa Foetida en bouton), and Shimazu Yoshino (petite soeur and cousin of Rei). The White Rose family consits of Satou Sei (Rosa Gigantea) and Toudou Shimako (Rosa Gigantea en bouton). The focus will usually switch every couple of episodes between one pair of soeurs in the yamayurikai (usually the boutons and their petite soeurs). Which comes back to the whole it being an emotionally-driven anime thing. Maria-sama ga Miteru Haru chronicles the spring after the series starts. It introduces a few new characters as the original roses graduate and new first-years come in. Basically the same as the first series, just a few new conflicts and such. SPOILER BELOW, DON'T CLICK THE LINK IF YOU DON'T WANT A SPOILER: For anybody that's confused about the relationships between the characters, you might find this useful: The Marimite Relationship chart (note how many red lines go to Sei and Yumi. Those studs.) --------------------------------------------------------------------- So. Now that I'm done with all of that. Who else likes this series? *kinda got way, WAY side-tracked. Gomen.* |

AH! Marimite is love. The Sei x Shiori eps were sad ;o Haha, Strawberry Panic is almost like a carbon copy of Marimite. |

That's right Strawberry Panic is similar in many ways. Biggest difference is the shoujo ai is more blatant, and not subtext at all. Anyway I've seen both seasons and am eagerly waiting for season 3. There's just something that's so magnetic about this series. Nice to see the relationship chart too, clears a few things up. Who's that girl calling Yumi Yumi-sama? |

Wait, are they making a seasin three?! :o ! That would rock my SOCKS! Anyway: The girl is Hosokawa Kanako. She's not voiced in the anime (she only makes a brief cameo in the second season). She's a big fan of Yumi. She's 178cm tall, and referred to by Marimite fans as Denpa. I'm assuming she's in the novels and manga. |

It starts sometime this year...this summer right? And try seeing Marimite season 2 on YouTube. That's where I saw it. If you select by date added then you should get season two near the top. |

Or you could just skip the searching and go here, where they come up in convenient pop-up windows (they're hosted by YouTube in any case). :D |

It's less a third season and more a handful of OVAs, but it does continue the story. Rumor on the internets has it that (spoiler) we'll get to see Yumi pick a petite soeur, either Kanako or Touko. More information can be had at the official Maria-sama ga Miteru site. So yes, I s'pose you could count me as a fan. In fact, I'm listening to the various OSTs right now between Tool, Korn, and others. :D |

If you type Marie sama you're supposed to find the missing season 2 episodes from YouTube. I read it from a comment on one of the episodes. I pratically inhaled the second season after finishing season 1. |

So I take it is good then from the buzz here? I hadn't heard of it until the scanlation of the manga was offered somewhere, I actually had just checked it out today but from the description I found I was a bit confused and not sure at all if I would like it. Your longer explination has definately intruiged me though so I may check it out ![]() Ahaha, my manga list is getting really long again! |

It's an enjoyable series that is very character and drama driven. So if you like the characters and don't mind too much drama then you'll enjoy it. I haven't read much of the manga personally though so I can't all too much. From what I've read it does very much the same thing the anime does. Neither strays from the other from what I've read. |

Me too!! Me too!! I've seen both seasons and am also eagerly awaiting the 3rd. I've been looking for the Manga, but I can't find it in English. Is it available in NA? Maybe I'll have to go to the mainland to find it. (Starts planning next trip to Vancouver). I got teary-eyed so many times watching that series, it really is full of emotion. Strawberry Panic is great too, but if you want more Fluff, Maria-sama ga Miteru is definately something you should check out. |
