Shouldn't you be feeling the same about "Bishoujo Senshi SeraMyun, then, TM? E.g. "Don't call her Serena, call her Usagi!" or "Don't call him Darien, call him Mamoru!" - I admit I HATE the dumb names they gave the cast. And from the sound of things, they must have done the same to TMM - all the more reason to watch it on DVD, I guess (my knowledge of TMM comes entirely from the manga).

No. That was the first anime I ever watched, at age 4. Since I live in America, I could only see the dub, and plus, I was little, so I didn't know about Japan yet. So I grew to love the dub of Sailor Moon.

OK, TM - but it's kind of hard for someone who likes a dub to complain about another, surely?

Time changes a person, it can forge the likes and dislikes of people. Time is like a hammer, forging our lives.

Is it wrong that I'm a guy and what thousand-mistress said pretty much sums up how I felt about Sailor Moon, except for that I was 7? If it weren't for Sailor Moon, I think it's quite possible that I could have gotten really big into X-Men or Spider man rather than anime(You know, things normal male children are into, as oppose to Sailor Moon). Which means I wouldn't be nearly as cool as I am today(or at least as cool as I make myself out to be) .Which in short, means I'm thankful that Sailor Moon was ruined(although I did enjoy it and the live action version does now take up 10GB of my computers hard drive, because of how awesome my childhood memories tell me it was.) via the dubbing process.

Fun Fact!: Sailor Venus was my favorite Sailor Scout!

Actually, I think it's most likely you'd have been attracted by another anime (e.g. Cowboy Bebop), or introduced to it by a friend, rather than the same old tired saw of "If I hadn't seen a wrecked dub, I wouldn't have got into anime", which still never will wash :)

Even Minako was smarter than Usagi :) My fave (when watching fansubs - I wouldn't touch the dub with a bargepole after being exposed to it by a dub-only DVD) would have to be Hino Rei :)

But we're supposed to be talking about shows we HATE, don't we?

From the past, I can think of three I really hate, offhand:

CardCaptors (I love CCS, but not...THAT).

Battle of the Planets (I've watched "Ninja Team Gatchaman", the show this was butchered from, and Sandy Franks REALLY wrecked it :( )

Cartoon Network's "Tenchi" shows (excessive editing and absolute refusal to run it in the "Midnight Run" with the excuse of "This show is too sleazy for the Midnight Run" (or similar offensive wording to that effect - according to my friend LTM, who's a moderator of the Ryoko Forever Fan Club - that comment had been posted by a CN rep in the "Aeka Fan Club"!). Needless to say, neither of us supported CN after THAT post.

No, some dubs suck more than others! FMA dub was pretty good, but Negima! dub . . . let's just say it sucked like hell.

The first Negima series is a given, I'm sure.

GTO's anime is lame compared to the INCREDIBLE manga. The production values were shot to hell and the end of the series was just bad. The only noteworthy thing worth mentioning is Onizuka's seiyuu: that actor -became- Onizuka, and you can tell he's having fun portraying him. Can't say the same for David Blum, however.

G-Gundam is awful. No true Gundam fan could like that series. I can't imagine it.

Love Hina's anime is bad as well, considering I have the entire manga collection and it actually COMPLETES the story (though with obvious filler chapters between vol. 11-13)

Not entirely. Recently, I downloaded the first 24 episodes from the Anime Council fansubbing site, and found it to be really close to the manga and enjoyable - until episodes 23 and 24, when a certain character dies. Still, despite this nasty twist, they handled episode 24 rather well regarding drama and at least a couple of characters telling both Negi and Nodoka to face up to reality. Not my idea of how the anime should have gone, but not entirely that bad.

The shows I could list as "those I hate" would be those wrecked by US distributors seeking to "kiddify" shows, when they could have used shows that have been playing in Europe for years that are already family-friendly. For instance, Miyazaki Hayao had this organisation back in the 70s and 80s called "Anime Theatre" (or similar name), which produced anime shows based on cult western-culture classics. A couple of those are "3000 Leagues in Search of Mother" (just shown as "Marco" in Europe) and "Heidi, Girl of the Alps". Instead of going for shows like those, they wreck shows not entirely designed for a child audience ("Tenchi Muyou", for example, was meant for college and up). The moral of this is: If it ain't broke, don't fix it - if you don't like what you see, do NOT touch, but rather look for something you like better. That way shows can be preserved. That's why many US cable broadcasters will tend to have the reputation they have outside the US of "turning gold to crap" (it's normally said stronger than that, but it's not my style to use such language unless I'm REALLY angry, and then it'd be just spoken).
There, rant over :)
