So, how many other people suspected something was amiss with the entire campus the second they found it was named Mahora? Now, my Japanese isn't anything close to spectacular, but I know enough to know that Magic in Japanese is Mahou (or something close). I'm also familiar with the practice of subtly(sp?) obvious names for places and the like, and Mahora stood out as one to me. A large campus city with a huge tree? Right from the get go I knew that there was more to this place than was intended to be thought.

This is getting astray from the point though. I guess my point would be to see how many other people either guessed or figured that Mahora campus was a figurative breeding ground for magic from early in the series, before any of the signs were present.

Incidentally, the "maho" in Mahora and "mahou" are pronounced the same way. In "mahou", the "oh" sound is just held longer.

I've never taken anything as it is the first time I read the title of the manga, and read through the first chapter...

When I think about it, Mahou and Sensei were the first japanese word I actually intended to learn. (I picked up greetings and goodbyes when I was like 6 because it was "cool" but didn't know that it was Japanese)

And I thought it was a typo (the name of the school) or something when I first read the manga. But carrying a typo through several volumes is kind of hard...

Yes, this is correct. I believe that it was intended to be pronounced Ma-ho-ra...whereas magic is pronounced Ma-hoe

I drew a connection, but didn't really think much of it >.<

i figured the name had to have something to do with Mahou, because the city itself WAS founded my Magis  thus the name: Mahora!

I've also noted that. I assumed that Akamatsu-sensei did that on purpose.
