Okay, so I know a few people who go to Catholic and whatnot schools, right? Well, she brought up she's doing something mark wise in it (didn't care because it lead into this) and I started to question her, why does a Catholic school teach science? Isn't that a direct slate against god? I mean, haven't they ever heard about the dark ages, where science was outlawed and punished by death? Funny story, that's not something they've learned about in history. So this whole thing of a school, based in GOD goes against it EVERYDAY! Like, they even have biology, THAT MAKES IT WORSE! Biology is based in evolution, which contradicts the very basic belief that god made everything the way it is now, in a day. I mean, WHAT THE F!#& I'm I just insane, or what? Discuss! |

I had a theology teacher that showed us errors in the Bible and how some of the "miracles" might not have happened. And this was at a Catholic school! |

Yeah, I know that not everyone that goes/teaches at a religious based school my believe in the religion, or just doubt some parts of it. I just find that my above rant is just really dumb. The teaching to religions polar opposite in a religious setting just boggles my mind! |

Well, looking at this from a Schooling point of view, if you segregate yourself in confines such as religion, your school will go no where. Multiculturalism is rampant, so it only makes sense to accommodate for the change. If you don't, your school will shut down. Plus, the main idea of a school is to provide education rather than enforce religious beliefs. The concept of a "Catholic School" is just to expand the knowledge of those already accepting the Catholic faith. It does nothing to impede the learning of everyday concepts such as Science. Yes, I do go to a Catholic School. |

I find it funny that quite a few people that go to Catholic schools become atheists (like me, and most of my family). |

I'm sorry, but I fail to see how science contradicts religion. Science is the study of observable facts while religion is the study of non-observable beliefs. The only real thing that has changed is that most Christian schools don't teach evolution. Besides, it's not like these places are trying to just be big churches, they are trying to be regular schools just they teach based on a religion other than evolution. (Yes I go to a Bible school, no I won't try and force my beliefs on you) |

This guy gets it. In our Catholic School, we do teach evolution. There is nothing wrong with expanding the minds of the students. In fact, I think it's quite beneficial to have knowledge on both the spiritual aspect of life and the factual aspect of life. It gives the opportunity to create your own meaning for life without having to form judgment upon stereotypes. OH NOES CHURCH. I BETTER NOT BELIEVE IN AN AFTERLIFE - this sort of rubbish. People like Slate went and said "this stuff isn't working out for me. I need numbers and facts" and thus, ditched the religion. There's nothing wrong with that. If you feel so bloody scared about being open to religion, then change bloody schools. |

I go to a Christian college, actually its a Presbyterian university, but they teach Evolution and how god created the earth. Christian schools should at least teach the students to be openminded. |

Why does it have to be so contradictory? Times change. In the Dark Ages they didn't have technology like computers or the internet either. What's wrong with Catholic schools teaching evolution? Like Asakura and Xiao have said, most Catholic schools are just schools. They're not indoctrination camps. As for what slate said, well it's funny how people who go to public high school who were formerly unaffiliated sometimes convert to Christianity too. It's just the way the pendulum swings, I guess. |

a bit off topic aren't we? Anywhos, just because they're Christians does not mean they're stupid. They aren't automatically Right Wing Fundamentalist who denounce science at every turn either. Moral of the story: GENERALIZATIONS AREN'T COOL. |

funny thing about kids. No matter what you tell them to do, they'll want to do the exact opposite much like how most people care more about cultures other than their own (like Japanophilia :D) Voyeurism: it's in our nature (sort of) |

Yeah, your rant really was dumb. Jk! You just worded that funny and I had to make fun of you. What I personally believe, as a Catholic mind y'all, the church honors some of their teachings as not real, but more of a message to people. Kinda like morals. And anyway, the Church's whole anti-science thing was kinda during, like, the sixteenth century. Which is kinda about 500 years ago. Sooo yeah. Point made. And I full heartedly agree with Zaroff. I hate stereotypes. Especially against Catholics. I mean I'm Catholic and I don't think I'm a horrible person! Well . . . I would like to think so . . . Sorry about the off-topic-ness!
