I believe there are 2 kinds of racism. The Hitler kind of racism where people are hurt killed and unkindly treated. This goes for bullying in schools and hate crimes. The other kind are the funny ones that every stand up comic has jokes of. You know you know some jokes. You know you are one or the other. |

Racism, one of the most retarded things humans have concocted. OOOO, his genes are slightly different than mine. Big deal. In my eyes, I see humans as a species, not black, not white, not asian, not w/e. Sure, I make jokes with stereotypes, but only at the stereotypes, not to the individuals it was made towards. I also saw earlier slavery being tied next to racism. Western Hemisphere slavery was unique in the way that race determined slave or free status. In past civilizations, slaves were mostly conquered soldiers of vanquished nations (I refer to Sparta as a big user of this). I could be wrong, however, what with my lack of knowledge on world history. |

I believe there are many forms of racism, racism isn't only for "outsiders" "black/white" "Small/fat" etc, it's for everything. I also believe racism will never stop because everyone, and I mean everyone, are racists somehow or another (even the leader for anti-racist groups). "Every hockey player smokes" (just as an example) is something you might say, you might not think about it, but it's actually racist. "I don't like candy" <--- Jesus christ, you are the biggest racist ever! "VIP only" <--- "Only people I accept are allowed here, all you other people are dickheads and can go hang yourself for all I care. Yeah, go cry in you corner.", is what this sign really says. "Ikea don't sell any good stuff" <--- Racist, because you don't only target the Ikea store near you, but every other Ikea store in the world. It's basically like saying "Black people can't think", but ain't as "bad" to say as the second in todays society. Seriously, you'll be surprised of how much of a racist you are yourself if you think about it. Even things which are no big deal, even for the ones you say it to is in fact racist. Saying that "Racism shouldn't exist" is basically like denying the existence of everything that is alive. What you can try to teach people though, is to not show their racism openly toward others (especially the ones they are racist to). To stop racism is with other words as hard as it is for a blind man too see. |

Jollepoker, there is a difference between racism and prejudice. What you just described in most of your post is prejudice. Racism denotes prejudice against a specific RACE of people. Race is defined as a set of physical characteristics specific to a group of people, such as skin color, cranial shape, etc. Race is determined before birth. Weight is not included in this definition because weight is easily changed. Racial characteristcs are, historically, not changeable except by some sort of unnatural procedure. Saying hockey players smoke isn't racist, but it is a stereotype. Race cannot be changed, but no one is BORN a hockey player. Saying that IKEA sucks doesn't mean you're racist. It means you're prejudice against IKEA stores. |

That's what I'm trying to say, it isn't racist, but still, if you think about it, it is. Sure, you can call it prejudice as well, but that's just to reduce the level of seriousness - to make it more okey to say it. For example: "I hate racists" If you say that, aren't you a racist yourself? Sure, it might be called prejudice, but there's really no big difference, one of them just happens to be classed as less serious. |

But a "racist" isn't a race of people. Hating them wouldn't be racist. : \ @Zaroff: Fuck, me too. |

But it's still the same idea as hating another race, or anything else for that matter. History has just unfold that way which makes this kind of racism/prejudice more serious, which is the point I'm trying to get to, I'm not trying to say we should change every kind of racism/prejudice into racism. Just trying to say that it's basically the same thing - no - it is the same thing. Kind of like Coke and Pepsi, same shit, different cartridge. |
