Mary Beth "Muffy" Jackson had finally procured the invitations to her mother's wedding. They were very beautiful. Even Bubba was impressed with the colors. "Hey, Muffy," Bubba said, "I think those invites will do your mother proud, indeed." "I am hoping so," Muffy said, "I can't believe you are going against your mother on this one." "I think Aunt Ellen deserves happiness and if my mother tries to ruin that, I can't condone that," Bubba said very seriously, "Duke Reeves makes Aunt Ellen happy, and if my mother can't accept that, then I want nothing to do with her." "You're braver than I am," Muffy admitted, "but then of course, I would hold a grudge against her for leaving you without saying anything." "Sometimes, not even I know what is going on with my mother," Bubba said, "I think it got worse when Dad got so sick, and then after he died." "Yeah," Muffy said, "and Aunt Eunice is still mad at us for not attending his funeral." "Well, we couldn't help that," Bubba said, "You and Sonja couldn't make up those exams, and Tiffany and I were out of town for our respective meets; there wasn't anything we could do about it." "Not to mention Buzz and his dad were out of town at a business convention," Muffy said, "there was no way we could get back for the funeral, even if we could have." "Yeah, but tell that to my mother," Bubba said. "Oh, oh, " Muffy said, cringing, "speak of the devil." "I want words with you, young man," Eunice screamed at Bubba. "I have nothing to say to you," Bubba said angrily, "you are so intent on undermining Aunt Ellen's happiness that I want nothing to do with you!" Eunice grabbed Bubba by the shirt and shook him hard, "You WILL do as I say!" she yelled, "Or else!" Just then, Thelma came over, "Eunice, you let go of him, missy!" she yelled at her daughter. Muffy helped her cousin back into the house. "I'll have the invites over in a few minutes, Grandma," she said. "Take your time, darling," Thelma said, "I have a bit of dealings with your Aunt Eunice!" "Get your hands off of me, Old Lady!" Eunice screamed, "I demand that you let me go! Bubba NEEDS punishment!" "You have completely lost it, now, Eunice," Thelma said harshly, "I will NOT tolerate you doing that to Bubba! You're worse than anything! You go off and gallivant to Florida, and leave him all alone! It's about time that Bubba finally sees you as the selfish person you really are!" "I am NOT selfish, Old Lady," Eunice sniffed, "I have rights, and I have needs, and nobody seems to care about that. Everyone in this whole deluded family is preparing for that nasty Ellen's marriage to MY man, Duke Reeves! And the worst part is that NOBODY seems to care about what I want! No, it's all about Ellen!" Eunice was still on a roll, when Muffy brought the invitations over to the house. Eunice looked at them, and really exploded. "MY name should be on these invitations!" she screamed, "MINE! Not my drippy older sister, Ellen! I am the one who should marry Duke Reeves! Not Ellen Jackson!" In a real fit of anger, she grabbed the invites, and tore them to shreds. "Now, tell your damned mother, and her damned friends to come to the wedding!" she crowed, "no invites, no wedding! Take that to your damned mother, you little freak!" Muffy was stunned, as tears fell down her face. Thelma glared at Eunice, "Why did you do that?" she asked coldly, "Was that really necessary, Eunice?" "Shut up, Old Lady!" Eunice said, a smug look on her face, "And YES, it was necessary!" Naomi saw the shredded invites and Muffy in tears as she cleaned them up. "Don't worry, honey," she smiled, "I know where we can get some more. I know a friend at Food Circus, who can make some really pretty invites. Your mom won't ever know what happened." Muffy smiled, "Should I call Mom and tell her what Aunt Eunice did?" she asked. "Don't worry about that," Naomi smiled, "I am sure old Square Britches there," and she shot a nasty look at Eunice, "will let it slip herself! She is rather brazen!" However, it was Ellen who had come into the house and saw what happened. "Naomi, Muffy, what happened to my invites?" she asked. "Ask Eunice," Naomi said, "I think she knows for sure!" "Well, Eunice?" Ellen said, "I am waiting." Eunice said nothing. Bubba came over, and saw the invites shredded. Tears came to his eyes, and he saw his mother, standing there with a smug look on her face. Bubba knew then what had to be done. "Aunt Ellen," Bubba said, "it was my mother who shredded your invites. Muffy was bringing them over for Grandma to give to you, and then Eunice got mad and tore them all up!" Ellen put her arm around Bubba, "I am not surprised," she said, "and I'm not mad at you or Muffy. You two go with your Aunt Naomi to get some more invites. We can get them replaced, ok?" Muffy and Bubba went with Naomi and as they pulled off down the street, Ellen looked coldly at Eunice. "You never learn do you?!" she said angrily, "You're still mad that Duke Reeves chose me and not you, right?! Now, you are punishing the entire family because Duke is marrying me, and not you! You are really crazy, Eunice, and it's only a matter of time before they cart you off!" "You think they are going to cart ME off, Sister Dear?" Eunice rasped, "It should be YOU sitting in jail! You've stolen everything from me all my life! And now YOU are marrying Duke Reeves when he is really in love with me!" Ellen laughed outright, "You are really pathetic, Eunice!" she said, "Duke is in love with me! He always has. He's never had a good word to say about you!" Just then, the subject of the sisters' battle came in. Duke Reeves himself. "Ellen?" he asked, "I was wondering what was going on?" "Nothing, darling," Ellen smiled, "just trying to make my nutcase sister realize that we are in love." "You need not worry about my devotion to you, Ellen," Duke said, "I don't even remember her!" Eunice looked like she was hit in the stomach, "Duke," she pleaded, "you know that I am the only woman you ever really loved! You are the only MAN I really loved! Can't you remember all those wonderful times?!" "You've ruined my relationship with Penny Perkins!" he said harshly, "Then you ruined my relationship with Ann Marie Bittner! And NOW, you are trying to derail my engagement to your sister. You are nothing more to me than a name!" "But I LOVE you, Duke!" Eunice erupted, "I always have! Even when I was married to Ed!" Unfortunately, Bubba and Muffy came in at that time to hear Eunice's admission. Bubba looked like he had been mortally wounded. "You mean you never really loved Dad?" he asked stunned. Duke looked sadly at Bubba, who had the misfortune of having Eunice as a mother. "She shouldn't have said that, Bubba," he said kindly, "she was speaking out of anger." "I most certainly DID mean it!" Eunice screamed, "If I wasn't married to that goon, and had you and your stupid brother, I would have been living the high life with Duke Reeves! But, NO! He went with Penny Perkins, and then Ann Marie Bittner, and now my stupid sister, Ellen! Why can't I ever get a break?!" Duke looked straight at Eunice, and his words were icy, "I am in love with your sister, Ellen," he said angrily, "and I want NOTHING to do with you!" Ellen gave her sister a smug smile, "Now, Eunice," she said, "has it finally sunk into that thick head of your's that he doesn't love you and that he loves me?!" Eunice glared at Ellen, "Get out of my face, sister dear!" she spat. Ellen looked at Duke, "Come on, darling," she said, "let's take Muffy and Bubba somewhere to eat. They need to be away from that poisonous sister of mine." Eunice was mad now! "You will NOT take my son, anywhere, Sister dear!" she screamed at Ellen, "Don't you DARE take my son, anywhere!" Bubba finally had had enough of his mother and her rantings. "I am going with Aunt Ellen, and you can't stop me, Eunice!" he said coldly, "I think it's finally sinking in that you are a real selfish woman! Worse than anyone I've ever known! I don't want to ever see you again!" With that, Bubba walked out the door with Ellen, Duke and Muffy. Eunice glared at the door. "Well, see if I care!" she shouted, "You are nothing but an ingrate!" "At least he knows what you are anymore," Thelma said, "he finally had enough bravery to break away from you!" "I'll make sure he gets punished for that!" Eunice snapped. However, what Eunice was not aware of, was that Ellen and Duke had planned on adopting Bubba, because they were going to have the state investigate and perhaps have Eunice arrested as an unfit mother. Tune in again for the next chapter of The Family! |

Believe me, this is perhaps the most fun writing. With the focus back on Eunice and her spitefulness, this is more of the classic skit. ![]() Albie |

I was feeling sorry for Eunice but after this ep no more. Why is she like this? I feel so bad for Bubba. He has no mother or father. And it's sad she shreded up those invites the kids worked so hard on. She need her cobwebs swept. I can loan her my broom.... |
