Parliament is a comedy/drama soap opera in the vein of Dirty Sexy Money and Desperate Housewives. It revolves around a group of MPs (Members of Parliament) fighting for control in an unnamed country. Parliament doesn't revolve around political issues, but more about how legislators behave behind the scenes. I've written a couple of other soaps, both of which are more in the style of the daytime drama, but this is primetime style and is very much different than anything else I've put together.

Roosevelt Hodges

Prime Minister, a politician almost past his prime still holding on for control.

Beverlee Manning

The Leader of the Opposition, she took over when the previous party leader left town with the party treasury.
She is learning how to be a leader, but isn't quite ready.

Lennox Calhoun

An ambitious young politician, who serves as Youth Minister, a position that is virtually a title only. Lennox is
ready to lead, but no wants to listen to him because of his age.

Geneva Clark

The scheming Leader of the House of Commons, she'll do anything to make it to the top, including double dealing
Roosevelt.

Constance Lakin

The Deputy Prime Minister and Roosevelt's conscience at time. Wise and battle tested, Constance can match wits with anyone and doesn't back down.

Lester "Babe" Patterson

The Speaker of the House and the narrator of the story.

Supporting Characters:

Billy Rizzuto

Billy is the type who avoids confrontation at all cost, sometimes coming off as somewhat of a coward. The comic relief of the show.

Judd Dooley

A backbencher on the minority side, a cowboy type who sometimes is far too abrasive for his own good.

Liz Sanford

An urban MP with a big personality, a sharp tongue and remarkable perception about people.

Gabrielle Hodges

Roosevelt's daughter and protege, although she might not be his protege for long do to her objection over his questionable tactics. Gabrielle is far to honest for her profession.

Philip Estrada Jr.

From a political dynasty, Philip really never had a choice about what he was going to do in life, so being a career politician is the path he took. He has many disagreements with Roosevelt and enjoys making wisecracks.

Barbara Laughlin

An MP and co-host of the Laughlin-Jackson report, a political program that is obviously biased toward Roosevelt's party. Barbara is one of those types that says something offensive on purpose and then act like it was unintentional.

Thurbert Jackson IV

The other host of the Laughlin-Jackson Report, an MP and a phony motivational speaker/coach. When the cameras are off, Thurbert is a manipulator with a short temper and has his own ambitions to get to the top.
