Officer/Raid Leader Posts: 2,026 Group: Officer Member #476 Joined: June 10, 2007	I'm after a piece of software to nab the audio from Youtube vids, anyone know of any that'd be of use?

For The PEW! Posts: 4,479 Group: Admin Member #2 Joined: April 4, 2006	I know if you get the newest Real Player.. it has a vid stealing thing... when you hover over the vid on youtube... the top right says 'Download Video' and it does just that when you click it.... dunno about just the audio tho!

Casual Member Posts: 61 Group: Members Member #149 Joined: May 24, 2006	Not sure how it works nowadays, but with older windows, I just used the inbuild soundrecorder. THere was an option to record any sound that was being output by the audiodriver, so you could record sounds that were being played. Might be an easy option to look into. Good luck!

Bit of improvising, but its a fast and easy option! Both of those options will only work if your soundcard supports full-duplex (i.e. recording while playing back). Most on-board, or gamer sound cards do not support it, though you might be lucky. Oh, and downloading videos from youtube (there are a few websites that do this, avoid realplayer at all costs) will likely result in a swf (Shockwave Flash) file, and retrieving the audio from those files will likely require specialist software from adobe. There may well be free software that will allow you to do it, but I've never had the need to do so, so don't know of any. You might be able to get around that by transcoding the swf into a proper video format, then use some video editor to extract the audio. The other option is attempting to find a piece of software that will sit at the driver level and stream to disk any sounds that are played. MediaMatch Jukebox used to do it, but I think they were forced to remove that functionality due to piracy concerns. It's entirely possible there's some other software that still does it tho

If anyone would like the know the software's name/site, feel free to pm me and I'll happily link it, assuming I know you.
