The Shores of Dover; Shipwright's Plans

The plane touches down in Dover under gray skies and falling rain, the city shrouded from your view by a thick and oppressive fog. After picking up your luggage at the carousel and breaking from the group of travelers and finding a window to collect your thoughts Troy gives a sad sigh looking out the window. "This isn't exactly the warm welcome I was hoping for."

"Not everywhere we go can be sand and sun, or clear skies and powder. This isn't the extreme sport circuit we aren't going to be greeted by well tanned men and women, with open arms." Tamra chips in but looks out the window as well with a bland expression. It seems the weather is dismal enough to get to even Tamra.

"Well lets just get this delivery done with so we can get out of here." Troy chimes in and looks over to you. "Do you want to try public transit or should we grab a taxi?"

The package from Shiva is tucked in your jacket pocket, and while on the flight you had noticed that it was marked with an address in flowing caligraphy, that declared its recipient Tyler Argus, Shipwright and Designer, Loring Docks and Shipmaking Company.

Henry likes the weather. It fits his mood a little. But he did have a task to do and he doubted as Tam had said earlier that it would end there. "Lets just get a taxi and get to the Loring Docks and Shipmaking Company. Then see where else we can go from there".

The group heads out of the terminal and hops into one of the waiting taxi's at the stand. A cheerful man with a thick British accent nods when you explain your destination and pulls out of the airport and heads down towards the docks. As the fog starts to clear up you can see that the docks here in Dover are much more extensive then you would expect, spanning a wide circle of bay. When Troy comments on the size the driver is happy to explain that Dover is one of the largest ports in the entire world and one of the most active.

Turning into a developing part of the docks the driver points up to a shipyard fenced in with a bright green fence and a sign that declares the complex Loring Docks and Shipmaking Company. After pilling out of the taxi and paying the toll you turn to the docks, just in time to hear the far off sound of terrified screams.

"I think I hear the sound of work." Tamra notes as she pulls her spear from the crest on her chest and drops her bag just inside the gate. Troy mirrors her movements drawing his sword from his duffle bag before putting it next to hers.

"You know just once it would be nice to not have disaster in our wake." Troy notes as he pushes open the large rolling gate to the docks. Before you stretches an expansive lot with several warehouses on the far side that are opened to display sailing ships in various states of completion, some frames, some full hulls, and some even having their riggings installed. What most catches your attention is the large ship which takes up the main berth. You can tell at a glance that it is a masterwork, the lines clean and smooth, and its hull is still under construction. The dark wood is polished to a fine shine where visible and painted to resemble an ancient greek ship with a single staring eye.

You also notice fleeing craftsman and ship builders barreling towards you and shooting nervous glances over their shoulders. One skids to a halt before you, Tam, and Troy and looks back again in fear. "You should get out of ere while you still have the chance. There are some huge men back their came busting in and demanding to see Mr. Argus. Then when they saw him they changed into some kind of terrible monsters." The man's courage buckles and he takes off at a sprint trying to catch up to the other fleeing workers.

Henry shakes his head as his friends arm themselves up. "Little early for arming yourselves isn't it"? Then the workers come rushing out of the yards. "Yup, work calls". The worker gives a brief description and then runs off. Henry looks at his friends. "Giants? Am I hearing this right"? Once he has an answer he shrugs. "Takes all kinds I suppose. Lets be about it then". Henry starts walking towards the sounds of screaming and mayhem.

"Certainly sounds like Giants." Tamra agrees stalking in the opposite direction of the fleeing craftsmen. "What say we go and ruin somones day."

"You know sometimes I think she enjoys this job a little too much." Troy shakes his head as you follow along after Tamra.

Tamra raises a hand in warning as you cross to the side of the boat and peers around, her eyes narrowed in interest.

"Four giants and one man, seems to be getting bullied, looks like our cue to step in." Tamra steps around the side of the boat and you follow. A long line of worktables and benches are arranged along the side of the large boat, projects dropped mid cut and fabric left mid stitch strewn everywhere. Near the middle of the line you can see one man with his back pressed against the boat and a short sword in his hand.

His steel gray hair is cropped short and wavy, and a thick gray beard grows over his deeply tanned Mediterranean complexion. The man is dressed in a heavy blue peacoat with thick khaki pants, and a tool belt around his waist. He is ringed by three of the 'giants' and another is digging around a large drafting table under a canopy.

The giants live up to their name towering between 8-9 feet with their skin criss crossed with strange tattoos and patterns. Each is armed with an oversized sword and they are intent on the old man. They are all dressed in leather armor that leaves their arms and most of their legs bare. They all have light blond hair, left to grow long down their back and handsome faces peeled back into identical sneers.

"Right old man just tell us where your plans are and we'll make it quick." One of the three surrounding the man demands in a deep gravelly voice. "Our qualm isn't with you and your ship its with others so we are feeling generous."

Henry steps around the corner. He reaches back and draws both his weapons and shoots the Giant rummaging around in the drafting table. Then points it at the other three. "I think you find me in a foul mood. I suggest you leave the man alone, or you will find me and my friends can make Hades look like a summertime resort".

With a sharp retort the gun fires and you see the lone giant stagger under back from the table clutching a large pile of papers.

The other giants all turn to you except for one who keeps his eyes fixed on the cornered man.

"What business have you here mortal?" The main giant demands as he steps forward with his sword raised. The others all grunt their agreements as the giant you hit limps over to join them, a red stain dripping down his large leg. "Leave us now and you will not face the wrath of Modron son of Moradron."

"Well if we are going with introductions, I am Henry, son of Artemis. Haven't been mortal in some time now. I said it once and I won't say it again, leave the man alone. He and I have business, I give you this last chance to leave with your lives".

"God-born?" The giant asks with a sneer and drops his sword to sink into the wooden supports beneath him. "I have no fear for the children of foreign gods. I am born of the isles and here we are more powerful than you."

To illustrate the fact the boards around the giants sword suddenly blacken and crack showering splinters as the very wood seems to warp and decay. The shattering wood jumps out towards your group in a line and Troy gives a large bound landing on the railing of the half constructed ship as Tamra bounds over several desk to escape its path. With lightning speed the broken and splintering wood jags out to both sides of your position hemming you in. "So now I will tell you son of foreign gods, leave the shores of my people and our quarrel will be forgotten." The giant grins at you with obvious pride at his show of power. From the corner of your eyes you catch both Troy and Tamra looking at you, waiting for your que on how to play this out.

Henry jumps out of the wooden barrier with ease, the strength of the Divine powering his leaps with prodigious effect. He lands softly just outside the wood and on the opposite side of the wood and summons Chopper. Henry looks at Chopper then the man in the pea coat and nods to Chopper. Then Henry puts Hunter away and smiles at the Giant. "Your land this may be, but the Sky sees all, and she is dispeased". Henry still holding the Parang reaches out towards the giant and exerts the pull of the tides upon the creature, pulling him through his own barricade.

Hunter dashes away as you turn towards the giants, circling the far side of the boat on his way towards the man in the pea coat. As you reach out with the strength of the moon you feel the giants equilibrium shift under you influence, sending him careening across the dock towards the circle of rotten boards. As his foot lands on the boards it slams through splintering wood and dumping the giant onto his large chest, causing the dock to rumble.

As the other giants move to attack you Tamra throws back her head and shakes her spear letting loose a blood curdling battle cry. You feel the force of it wash over you and the giants seem to physically flinch backwards from the power of her cry.

Taking advantage of their hesitation Troy launches himself from the deck of the unfinished ship and bounces between them like a pinball, knocking the remaining giants further off balance before landing on the dock next to you. "Come on is that really all you guys have?"

The giants all look the the stumbling leader in concern, like bullies not so sure what to do now that someone stood up to them. The giants headed over to pull their leader from the boards as you notice Hunter closing in on the man in the pea coat who watched the giants with wary eyes.

Henry waves the Parang in the general direction of the giants. "Leave him be. He got you into this mess, he can get you out, or get you killed, his option".

The lead giant slams his fists on the boards and they explode in rotted fragments. The giant shambles to its feet after pulling itself loose. Just as it turns to you, you notice a gem on its chest pulsing a solid green. "You are lucky this time worm, other matters call me from the field of battle." The lead giant slams his sword into the pier as the pilings explode outward in a spray of splinters. Troy hops infront of you whipping his sword across his chest and calling out in Greek.

A gust of wind explodes outward from the sword and as the dust and detrius clear you can see a large, gaping hole in the middle of the dock and no sign of the giants.

"Damned Formori, done and took of with my only set of plans for the navigation system." The man in the pea coat steps up next to you and eyes the hole with a wince. "No telling what kind of mischief that lot can get into with my only set of plans."

Henry shakes his head and puts his Parang away. "I would apologize for now getting here quicker, but Fate seems to have a way of putting us where we are needed when we are needed, not when we want to be there. ". Henry reaches into his coat and pulls out the scroll. "I think this is for you, from a friend in India".

"Thanks for the schematics, I can at least take comfort that the giants don't have the full set of plans." The man gives you a nod as he tucks the plans into the inner pocket of his pea coat. "Glad Shiva finally got these back to me, it took me years to get him to look over my drafts and give me his notes, then I had to wait for him to be in one of his creative cycles instead of his destructive cycles."

The man turns to you and eyes you with the same critical care he gave the hole in the ground and probably the same look he reserves for unfinished boats. "Names Argus, thanks for the save with those giants and for the plans. Shiva must respect you if he trusted you with the plans, or he had one of his creepy visions where he acts as though the future had already happened." The man shook his head at the thought before circling the rotten boards to his desk.

"Wait, Argus as in the the Shipwright who built the great vessel for Jason?" Tamra asks as she swings her spear up onto her shoulder. "Son of Poseidon and a ship builders daughter? Perhaps one of the most respected boat builders to ever design for the Dodekatheon?" You didn't expect to see Tamra impressed by just anything but she was looking it now.

"That would be me, though I usually leave all the stuff off at the end." The man agrees with a prefunctory nod as he surveys the disarrayed remains of his plans. "Now whats it going to cost me to hire a few capable Scion's like yourselves to get those plans back for me before those idiot Formorians find some way to mess up my business and cause mayhem?"

As soon as Tamra started fawning over the shipwright Henry walks over to where he had shot the Fomori and kneels down. He dabs his fingers into the pooled and slightly congealed blood and brings it to his nose. Then he rubs his fingers together close to his ear, listening to the sound it makes. Then he stands and walks back over. "You are a man with many connections. I have something that needs to be done. We find those plans for you, and you take this flower and have it turned into an oil that I can use to coat my blades". Henry brings out Persephone's flower and shows it to Argus.

Argus gives you a measuring gaze before nodding his agreement. "Done, on the condition that one of these days you tell me how you got Persephone to part with one of her flowers. She must have owed you a favor or wanted something baddly to give up such a flower, even for so short a time. It may take me a few days to distill the flower's pollen into an applicable agent and even then it won't last forever, probably a few months worth of coating. Persephone designed these flowers to be very hard to maintain long term, sometimes she is just as cold and calculating as her husband Hades."

It is not difficult for you to catch the giant's scent leading away from the docks. It would seem that the disappearing act didn't take them very far away and after that they had made a run for it, even over the distance you can catch their receding scent.

"So it looks like another hunt for us." Troy notes as he ambles up next to you and leans against one of the desks. "We are getting a lot of practice at these kinds of missions lately."

Henry looks down the docks towards where the scent is retreating. "You and Tam are getting the practice of following me like hunters and their bloodhound. I've been training for this my whole life. They didn't go far with their little disappearing trick. But we are in someones back yard. Troy I want to get a hotel room as near to Piccadilly Circus. Tam, I want you to see about finding out as much as you can about any ship building going on around the area, the whole Isles in fact. If memory serves me right, the local Giants are called Formorian. Been at war with the local deities for quite some time now. I figure I should stop in and say hello before I mix up the hornets nest. I am going to head down to the Henge and see if any locals are around".

"Sure thing Henry I'll call up my travel people and have them line us up some rooms." Troy agrees as he slides his phone open and pages through his digital phonebook. "I'll meet you and Tam back there when I'm done." Troy lifts the phone to his ear and heads back towards the street. "Hey Cheryl I need a few small favors . . ."

"I can take the young woman along with me," Argos interjects as you mention looking up ship building operations. "I have friends at the portmaster's office and they have logs of the major shipbuilding projects all across the Isle."

"Yeah Henry we'll take care of that and I'll put some feelers out through my network of contacts. I have a few underground contacts that may know more if they are trying to keep their project off the grid." Tamra agrees as she and Argos head off towards the port authorities.

You have no trouble catching a cab once you leave the shipyards. You arrive at the Henge later in the afternoon and the gray skies have cleared to a bright and pale blue. The rolling fields around the plain are bright green and a cold wind snaps the grass in slowly moving waves. Rising from a nearby hill the stones are a stark gray against the bright blue sky and you can see the tourists moving around a small station set up not far away and being lead down paths near the Henge, a circle of low gates letting everyone know the actual Henge is off limits except for special tour groups and times of the year.

As you head towards the small visitors center you hear the clear notes of a violin and notice a man playing for a group of tourists, his hand moving the bow in smooth, graceful strokes across the violin strings. His shoulder length dark hair pulled back into a tail to keep it clear of his violin. He is dressed in a pair of worn jeans and a white cotton shirt with golden ties at the neck. He sways with the music and his bright green eyes seem to shine with an inner light as the crowd sways along to the song. You can feel something familiar in his song and realize its much like the influence you feel when Troy or Jason tried to charm but without as much pressure. He ends the song to some applause and a small cascade of money into his open case. "Thank you Ladies and Gentlemen for your generosity but I need to take a small break now and rest my weary hand."

Just before Henry leaves Tam and Argus he looks over. "Check the power grid as well. If they are building a ship, it may be using more or less power then the area they are in should be. Just a hunch, could be wrong".

At the Henge Henry takes a moment after the violinist is finished to admire the scenery. This was one of the places he had wanted to come for some time. But he was never able to due to a number of different reasons. He walks over to the violinist and drops a ten pound note in the case. "I have heard that song before. A friend of mine plays it like the wind, smooth to the ear and light to the touch. Another person I know plays it with percussions. Hard on the body and mind. I must say the the strings are much lighter and easier to overlook the intricate delicacies of the meaning. But you really can't appreciate the true depth of feeling unless you have felt it, unabashed and willing".

The man gives a small bow at your compliment as he lays his violin down in the case after scooping out the money. "I am glad you appreciated the music. Yes the violin tends to be a more delicate instrument then that used by others. The soft strings are the perfect medium to capture the heart and mind. Most of the charm was just classical music training, but as you know its hard to avoid the gifts we inherit."

The man looks out over the Henge before turning back to you. "The name is Gideon, my father's name is Lugh, I'm guessing our parents are in the same line of work. What is it that I can do for you today friend?"

Henry sticks his hand out. "Henry, son of Dianna. Adopted I suppose but either way. Mind if we take a little walk"? Henry walks a little ways away where they are away from the people, but can still see the Henge. "My team and I came here to deliver a message to a local shipwright. However we got there in time to save the shipwright from some local Giants, I think you call Formorian. They made off with some of the plans for the ship he's building. He has hired us to track down the culprits and I didn't want to stir up a hornets nest without letting the local peoples a heads up".

"Some Formorian's shook down old Argus?" Gideon seems genuinely surprised as he waves you to follow him. "Why don't we step into my office this sounds like a discussion that could use some whiskey."

Gideon collects his violin and leads you around the back of the visitors center to a nondescript black door that looks like any other service entrance. Gideon pushes the door open and waves you into a small room, dominated by a wall of different instruments and a large worn wooden desk. "Come in and make yourself at home."

Gideon puts the violin case on the desk and grabs two glasses from a sideboard filling them with amber liquid. He slides one across the desk to you as he sinks into the chair behind the desk and waves you to take one opposite. "Argus came to us a few months back and asked if he could use our docks for his work. We didn't mind his presence, what with all the pantheons tryin to work together for the war effort so we let him. If the Formorians attacked him, its because they want to use his plans for something that suits them. I appreciate the warning but if that is the case then your not hunting alone, I'll be going with you." Gideon drains the glass and looks at you, attempting to gauge your reaction to his declaration.

Henry listens as Gideon talks, sipping the whiskey. "It's good to hear that the Pantheons are indeed working together. There a a couple Scions trying to cause some trouble down here". Henry fills Gideon in on his recent dealings with Aki and his cohort, including Aki's attempt at stealing a Relic from the Daeva. "That along with tracking down some escaped convicts from Hades has kept my attention these past few weeks. I was beginning to think that everyone had their head shoved up their proverbial ass. As for your coming with us, while I don't have a problem with it, I do need to discuss it with my teammates. Tamra and Troy are both members of the Greeks, Tam and myself particularly aren't too keen on following our parents back to the mountain if you catch my meaning. If this is a short term thing; cool. Otherwise I think I am going to have to make membership to the team available to those who are looking to strike out on their own and are looking for allies. No offense".

"I have heard of some renegade Scions who are taking advantage of the impending war to try to benefit themselves, though this is the first time I've heard of an Aki or Shin-sen. Not that big a surprise since we don't have much dealing with the Amatsukami or Celestial Beauracracy here on the island." Gideon admits as he stands and puts his glass back on the sideboard. "Don't worry Henry I'm only looking to tag along while your here. I'm a gatekeeper for the island and this way you won't have any problems with the locals. The Fae and spirits of the island can get a little sensitive about people they don't know tromping around."
