[GM] Minneapolis, MN Saturday, March 13, 2010 0945 It is a cold day in Minneapolis (32oF) - remnants of the last snowfall line the sidewalks and the skies are gray. Despite the weather, the streets are busy and alive with activity. Traffic is heavy on the narrow street outside of the office building housing Allen Consulting, LLC. and people rush about their business with a sense of urgency despite the fact that it's Saturday morning. You double check the address that you scratched down - the address that Chester Allen sent you in his last email correspondence. Yep. This is it. Satisfied, you push open the double doors. The office building's lobby is warm and inviting, though modest and unassuming. Next to a fake ficus tree against the wall opposite the entryway, is the building directory. The listing indicates that Chester's office is on the third floor. The elevator is out of order so you take the stairs. Once on the third floor, you walk down the narrow hallway looking for the office. At the end of the hall, you see a small placard for suite 313 with 'Allen Consulting, LLC.' written above it. As you pass through the doorway, you are greeted by an attractive young lady dressed in casual business attire. "Welcome to Allen Consulting" she says with a smile. "My name is Judith. How can I help you?" After a brief introduction, Judith directs you to a small conference room where a group of people sit around a long table. "Can I get you some coffee?" she asks. This must be the 'team' that Chester mentioned in your correspondence. You scan the group as you take an empty seat. "Mr. Allen will be with you momentarily" announces Judith. We will assume that you have each entered and joined the group. There are a few minutes before Chester Allen enters to begin the meeting. This may be enough time for some light discussion and introductions. Edited by dhorn, Mar 14 2010, 10:06 PM.

Vargus was one of the last ones to arrive. He walked in, wearing his work clothes of plain black pants and a dark blue dress shirt. He looked around at the group, sighed and took a seat. He slouched in his seat and played with the mechanical pencil he had brought. |

Marcus came into the room and sat in the first chair he could find. He pulled out his laptop, it had beeped at him on his way in here and he opened it up to find an email from a construction company who wanted to hire him for consulting on the demolition of a building. Life was certainly more lucrative outside the force. He took a moment to look over the group. Certainly a motley crew that is for sure, should be interesting. |

Sadie bounds into the room with a spring to her step coming to a stop with a bit of a jump. She looks around the table taking in the rest of the team members. She finds an empty chair around the table her leg immediately beginning to bounce as if with impatience. Looking around with a bright smile she suddenly announces, "Hi, my name is Sadie!" Seeming pleased she smiles brightly showing perfect teeth. "Who are you and what brings you here?" she inquires of the rest of the table. |

Ellen walks into the room with a polite smile on her face, wearing a pair of black dress pants, black low-heeled boots and a red blouse under a warm looking black leather jacket. Her dark brown hair is tied back into a pony tail and, while she doesn't normally wear makeup, she is wearing a touch of it since this is basically a job interview. Smiling at Judith politely and declining the offer of coffee, Ellen takes a seat and nods in greeting to everyone present with a polite smile. Turning to Sadie as she introduces herself, Ellen replies "Hello there. My name is Ellen Cooper. As for what brings me here, I saw Mr. Allen's ad in the paper and was curious enough to contact him to arrange for an interview. How about yourself?" |

Sadie beams back at Ellen as she leans back in her chair and crosses her legs, only to uncross them and lean forward again a moment later as she talks. "I saw Mr. Allen's ad in the paper too. I've been researching paranormal activities for a couple of years now. This opportunity seemed too good to pass up." She drops her voice a little as she leans forward more. "I do love a good intrigue." Sadie smiles conspiratorially and winks. Sadie is dressed in tight black jeans with a rainbow belt, a hello kitty shirt with black sweater overtop, and a puffy white winter jacket. Her shoes are converse and her hair is poking out in funny directions where it is still wet from her shower that morning. Her eyes sparkle with mischief as she looks around the table again giving her a loveable childish look. |

N.E. Phillips Nigel enters the conference room, takes off his scarf and winter coat then looks over the team gatered so far. He is a man in his very early twenties, well groomed with a professional appearance and is dressed in a classy Armani suit. He smiles and introduces himself as he takes his seat. "Hello. My name is Dr. Nigel Phillips and I've been brought on as a medical consultant. What are each of you here for?" He asks in a friendly and outgoing manner, careful not to divulge much about himself too soon. |

Marcus looks around the group, a hyperactive young woman in need of some Prosak, another young woman of the business variety, and a young doctor. Interesting, interesting indeed. "Marcus Thorn, I am also here due to the ad in the paper. A little extra money in the pocket never hurt anyone. Never seen a ghost, or experienced anything out of the sorts. I am here to make sure that what you aren't cataloging as 'supernatural', isn't some kind of electrical disturbance". |

Sadie glanced up sharply for a brief second when she heard Marcus Thorn's statement, but she seemed to remember herself and relaxed immediately. Glancing over at the doctor she grinned mischievously and tapped her fingers on the armrests of her chair. "I am here to help, but also I need answers of my own. Do supernatural events interest you?" |

Marcus shakes his head. "Not even the slightest. But I understand the need to seek out the unknown. So I just want to make sure that if you are going to make claims about the paranormal, you are indeed claiming the paranormal is there. Not just some electrical disturbance". |

I'll bet you do, rainbow... "I'm sure you do, Miss...? I'm sorry, what is your name?" He asks.
"As far as the supernatural or the idea of it afflicts the human body, yes it is of interest to me. I'm afraid, however, I share Mr. Thorn's sense of skepticism as far too much of what is attributed to supernatural involvement can and often does have more mundane origins. Unlike Mr. Allen, I do not seek the 'truth', only the well being of my fellow man." He says, concious not to bore his audience with a lecture. |

Cocking her head to one side she looks thoughtful for a moment before responding. "I think that there are some things that can not be explained by mere electrical disturbances and that there is a possibility at least of there being something more behind it. I intend to find out. My name is Sadie." |

N.E. Phillips Nigel smiles at Sadie's apparent need to believe in the supernatural. He knew, perhaps better than most that the supernatural world doesn't need or want your permission to make itself known or to remain hidden. Skepticism, in his mind, was one's best defense against being written off as a complete loon. "And what exactly is it that you'll be doing as part of this team, Ms. Sadie?" He asks moreso to maintain pleasantries than out of any genuine interest. |

For the moment, Ellen remains quiet in her seat as she listens to the conversations going on around her. It was always interesting to hear other people's opinions regarding the supernatural. Sure, she believed in the supernatural, but realized that most people had a certain degree of scepticism. |

(Perception 1d20+1=10 http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2444216/) Vargus took account of everyone who was there in a few seconds. He couldn't read as much about them as he would have liked, but they all seemed of average intelligence at least. If I have to dum everything down here too I might end up killing someone. He figured he should at least Introduce himself. He turned to the business like woman,"Good day, My name is Vargus, I'm here with expertise in munitions and weapons. What are you applying for?" |

Ellen turns to Vargus with a polite smile as she replies "Good morning. My name is Ellen Cooper." When asked why she was here, she replies, "I saw Mr. Allen's ad in the newspaper and contacted him. I have to admit I was intrigued by the ad. As for my skills, I am quite proficient in hand to hand combat and firearms. So, I suppose I am quite skilled for any kind of security position Mr. Allen may have available." Ellen doesn't mention her other abilities at this time, due to the fact that whenever she'd made an exception and confided in someone about them, she was always met with scepticism and she wasn't sure what Vargus' position on the supernatural was. |

Vargus' mood brightened slightly, if only slightly, "I've never met any creatures of mythical proportions, but I've been designing weapons to kill them since I was a kid." His mood darkened again and he settled back into a lazy slouched position, "I know they are out there, but I've never come across one so I've never had a chance to test my creations." |

Looking curious, Ellen asks "What made you decide to start designing weapons to hunt creatures that you've never come across?" It doesn't seem like Ellen is saying she doesn't believe they exist, only wondering what made him decide they did exist if he'd never seen one. |

Vargus ponders it momentarily. "It was the challenge. People as so easy to kill and design weapons to kill. (Lore: Demons & Monsters 62/100=58 Good http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2445969/ ) Now take a Vampire for example. Not only does the weapon have to deliver wood, but it must be accurate and strong enough to score a direct hit on the heart. I simply enjoy the added challenge." |

"We'll see if we can provide just such an opportunity, Mr. Janova" says an unfamiliar (to most of you) voice. A young man in a dark business suit with a red tie enters the conference room and closes the door behind him. "Thank you all so very much for coming. I apologize for keeping you waiting. My name is Chester Allen. This is an exciting day." Chester moves around the room, shaking each of your hands as he makes his way to the end of the table "I know that some of you have traveled a great distance to be here today, and I certainly appreciate it." Chester takes a seat. "Let me get straight to the point. Although this is a new business venture for me, I have been investigating reported hauntings for the past five years. Towards the end of my studies in college, I co-founded a small group of psychology students that would road trip on the weekends to investigate supposed hauntings around the state. Most of our trips resulted in very little documentation of paranormal activity although there were two trips that solidified my belief in the presence of ghosts." Chester pauses momentarily as if visualizing something in his mind. "Since that time, I have toyed with the idea of trying to make paranormal investigation my career. It has not been an easy task. However, I recently came into some money from another business venture - enough money to rent this office and hire a group of investigators to assist with a couple of cases that we've been fortunate enough to be called in on." Chester smiles and rubs his head. "But I've gotten ahead of myself. I will admit that I received a lot of interest through the Lazlo Society boards and the ads that I posted in a few newspapers around the mid-west. After reviewing dozens of resumes, I've invited this group to come and discuss the opportunity in person." "I specifically called in Dr. Phillips at the recommendation of a mutual acquaintance who spoke very highly of his medical skills. He is a well known physician and quite frankly a major asset to the team in a number of ways - least of which is keeping us healthy on the job. I won't sugar coat this folks, the kind of work we pursue here is dangerous. Dealing with the supernatural will expose us to the things of nightmares. Beyond that, there are plenty of corporeal threats that we will come into contact with. A skilled medic is a must and I appreciate you coming Dr. Phillips." "Miss Ellen Cooper, as she already mentioned, will provide security for the team. However, her skills go far beyond that. Without divulging too much personal information, Miss Cooper has experience in these issues and, like Dr. Phillips, is a major asset to the team. In fact, Miss Cooper, I envision you taking more of a leadership role when the team is working a case. If you are comfortable with that Miss Cooper, we can discuss more of the specifics after the meeting." "Vargus Janova, as you already know, is a specialist in weapons engineering with a peculiar interest in weapons designed to combat supernatural creatures of all sorts. The application of these skills is quite obvious. Thank you for joining us Mr. Janova." "That brings us to Marcus Thorne. Mr. Thorne specializes in electrical engineering but has expertise in a variety of subjects that I'm sure he'll be more than willing to discuss with you at another time. I will admit that my interest in Mr. Thorne stems from a healthy skepticism that he emphasized in our correspondence. It is far too easy to be drawn into this field in an attempt to seek proof of the supernatural. From that preconception, exists the danger of seeing proof where none exists. At Allen Consulting, we strive to help our clients with real supernatural problems, but we also seek to debunk and expose those that would use hoax to manipulate others into hysteria. Healthy skepticism is a skill often overlooked in this field and I appreciate you joining us sir." "Last, but certainly not least - Sadie Vothin. I will admit that I do not know much about Miss Vothin, other than that she has significant mechanical aptitude and is passionate about the supernatural. This passion, above all things, swayed me to include her on this team. Thank you for being here Sadie. I hope that our exploits will bring you closer to the information that you seek." Chester stands and walks to a side table that has various beverages (e.g., water, juice, coffee, etc.) and pours himself a water. "I have more material to go over with you, but I think this might be a good place to stop and ask for questions. Also, if any of you would like to elaborate on your background at this time, feel free. If you decide to move forward with a commitment on this first job, we should all be somewhat familiar with each other so that we understand each others' strengths and weaknesses in the field. So," he says taking a sip of water. "Are there any questions for me or any of the others in the group?" |

Ellen nods with a polite smile at Chester when he enters the room and follows each person in turn as he describes their abilities. She nods at Chester at his mention of talking about her taking on leadership duties in the group and says "That would be fine, we can discuss that after the meeting." Ellen is glad to see they will have a doctor on the team, knowing that Chester is correct about the fact that the type of work they are about to engage is will, at times, be very dangerous. She tries to think of any questions she may have, and remains silent when she doesn't think of any as she looks out at the rest of the group waiting to see if they have any questions, either for her or Chester. |

As Sadie was about to answer Nigel's question a man with red hair entered the room and introduced himself as Chester Allen. One by one he introduced the people around the table. When he introduced Marcus Thorne and explained about his skepticism about the supernatural she nodded understanding better the questions and comments that had been thrown out before the meeting. She smiled the whole time the introductions were being made, looking around the room as each was introduced. She was surprised when Chester introduced Ellen Cooper and said she would be security. She was dressed like some kind of secretary and hardly seemed the type. Sadie smiled to herself at her line of thoughts. She turned to Ellen and asked with a wide smile, "How will you be providing security Miss Cooper? I am a little curious about your background and expertise in this matter." |

Ellen smiles at Sadie’s question as she replies, "As I mentioned to Vargus, I am quite proficient in hand to hand combat and firearms. This is also due to the fact that I have been a member of a SWAT team in Seattle Washington for the last year and a half, where we have provided motorcade security in conjunction with the Secret Service." She pauses for a minute before continuing, "I also have some natural abilities, though not everyone believes me when I talk about them." Ellen then falls quiet, looking around the room, waiting to see if anyone else has questions. |
