Vargus looks at the date, making sure it's today. "Tricky, tricky." Turning to the group, he looked around at those assembled. He made a list of what he knew about them. FBI agent: Average, should have Side Arm Marcus: Unresponsive Anna: Reporter, Very clingy to anything she thinks relates to the case. If Vargus had his way, he would send Marcus with the reporter, and take the FBI agent with him, but as it is, the whole group will probably come. Vargus gives it the old college try, "I might have a lead. Do you want to check it out with me agent, while Marcus and Miss Anna check out the church meeting?" Trust 60% (1d100=63) Vargus' demeanor is not overly casual. |

Vargas - the text was indeed received only minutes before you and the others arrived at the coffee shop. |

What a doorstopper, Anna thinks unhappily, feeling the weight of the tome in her hands and the size of the number on its last page. Even if she skimmed this as fast as she could - and she could skim pretty damn fast - it would still take a good quarter hour for her to get through all of it. Maybe she could specifically check out any sacrificial rituals... ...on her own time. "Well, Vargus, I don't think I can find any chapters on 'yes', but if you have any constructive requests I'll be happy to help you out," she says, dropping the book on the table in front of Vargas with a heavy thump. "The pentagram is a part of the murder rituals. It could mean a number of things. Assuming north is up - and it doesn't have to be - it's probably meant to work as a Satanic symbol, though it could be in connection to some other paganistic religions. I'm going to bet on the former, though." She muses for a moment. "Now, I don't know much about this stuff, but with the pentagram plus the circles at the murder sites, I'd say - uh - " Anna leans in so that neither Laura or the young boys can hear, "the killer's trying to harvest the girls' souls as they leave the body. Probably thinks he can do something with that energy." She leans back. "Not that I expect anyone here to believe that, but the killer obviously does. Assuming this isn't all a ruse to throw people like us off, anyway."
Something in Vargus's tone twigs at Anna for a second, but then she surpresses it. She's already annoyed at him, she doesn't need to get paranoid. "If anyone, Agent Moulder would do better at the church meeting than I would. He's probably a lot better at spotting suspicious people. What sort of lead do you have?" |

Point of Clarification: Marcus has not presented the book he found in Bobby's room. It is in a sealed envelope in Moulder's car. |

(going to continue this along the lines that Marcus never brought the book into the shop, nor presented it to the group [especially considering that he looks at everyone he is working with as a quack]) Marcus looks around. "Right, me working with a reporter. I have made headway with working with Moulder and I think we all should check out this lead". |

Vargus sighed, "Fine. Then lets move. This cell phone is the suspected victim's. It has a text that tells her to meet him at the library. I say we move quickly." Vargus was making ready, looking around at the group. |

Anna gulps down the rest of the barely-warm coffee and throws on her coat. "I'm sorry, Laura, I need this back now," she tells the girl as she takes back her notebook and pen, and slides her belongings back into her shoulderbag. I'm sure as hell not letting him screw this chance up, Anna thinks ruefully, glancing again at her watch. "The timing's going to be tight if she's still going to the church meeting." |

The five of you (Marcus, Anna, Vargas, Moulder, and Capstone) pile back into their respective vehicles and make their way to the library. It is just coming up on 5 o'clock at this point. The sun has set and the snowfall has stopped. Above you, the clouds begin to clear from the sky and a faint sliver of the full moon shines through. Upon exiting the vehicles at the library, the full moon is almost completely visible on the horizon. It actually looks like it is going to be a nice night... for some. Marcus, as you and Moulder approach the front door to the library, you see Jill on her way out. She's locking up the doors as you approach. Vargas and Anna, the two of you and Will Capstone pull up just behind Moulder's sedan. "I think I should head to the church and check in on the youth group. Give me your number" he says to Vargas, "and I'll call you if anything comes up." He lets you out and heads off. |

Vargus hands him one of the depleting business cards and gets out. Vargus looks to Marcus. It was his girlfriend, he should handle it. |

If Vargus has not told anyone else about his lead, Anna will be returning to the church with Will Capstone. Anna gets into the car beside Will. "Me and Reverend Garfunkle set something up together," she says. "Do you mind if I ask you some questions on the way?" |

Anna pulls a face at the library doors being locked. Will we have to chase this girl all over town? She checks her watch. "I've got something set up at the church with Reverend Garfunkle. Can you guys handle Bobby on your own? I want to cover more ground. I've got Vargus's card, I'll call you if I find anything." She steps up the passenger side of Will's car as he buckles in. "Can I get a ride? I'd like to ask you some questions." |

"Yeah," says Will. "You bet. Jump in." Once you're buckled in, Will pulls out onto the snowy streets. On the way to the church, he has to pull to the side of the road twice in order to allow the snow plows to pass by. |

"The killings are on a schedule," Anna says, as Will pulls over to let the snowplow past for the first time. "Once per month. The next will be tonight." She looks over at him. "I'm a journalist investigating the murders. All of the victims were girls in the choir, the abstinence group and the youth group. It's way too much to be a coincidence and Robertson's one of the only people in town who wouldn't know. Have you seen anyone lurking around the choir meetings? Have the girls mentioned anyone paying them a lot of attention?" |

Anna - Will listens to your questions. "No. I haven't noticed anything strange with any of the kids. I mean, there's been some tough discussions regarding the murders and I know that some of the girls are scared... but since Robertson was taken into custody, most of them - and most of the townsfolk - have breathed a sigh of relief." Marcus, Moulder nudges you with an elbow as you get out of the car and gestures to Jill as she fumbles with the keys at the front door. Marcus - just waiting on a post from you at the library. Vargas - feel free to post any dialogue (internal or external) while we wait for Marcus to deal with Jill. |

Marcus nods at Moulder and walks up to Jill. "Hey Jill. Hows it going"? Marcus makes small talk with her a few moments, before getting to the point. "Have you seen either Bobby Halls or Sally Jensen? They were supposed to meet here at five". |

Marcus shakes his head. "Right now, I don't know, but if you see them can you give me a call? I will let you know what I find out when I do though". Marcus goes back to the car. "The library closes at five, the library was probably empty fifteen minutes ago". |

Vargus cocks an eyebrow at Marcus. "You Girlfriend doesn't exactly look like a security expert. Forgive me for thinking someone might actually be able to break into an old and probably alarm system less Library. In addition, why would bobby kill someone in a full library?" Vargus thought about it. Turning to Moulder, "You have more experience than I do. Which would be more effective, waiting in the building or partoling the perimeter?" While he waits for Moulder to answer he looks up and down the street for the young murderer and victim. Maybe he just wanted to meet here and take her somewhere else? Perception (1d20=10) |

Marcus nods to Moulder. "Your right, we should probably check inside just to make sure". Marcus walks back up to Jill. "Jill, I don't mean to sound rude or anything, but so far everything we have learned about these incidents around here so far leads us to believe that there will be another incident tonight, and somewhere very near here. Would it be OK if Agent Moulder and I looked around inside before you leave"? |

Tilden, Nebraska Saturday March 20, 2010 5:15 PM Weather: Snow has stopped and the sky is clearing. A full moon is visible. Anna, you and Capstone finally arrive at the church. Upon entering, you hear voices coming from a stairwell off the vestibule. "The youth group meets downstairs" explains Will. When the two of you enter the meeting room, you see about a dozen teenagers and an 30 something woman seated on chairs arranged in a circle. They seem to be discussing some aspect of the sacrament of marriage. Will gestures to the woman. "Excuse me for a minute everyone. Continue your discussion and I'll be right back" she says as she gets up. "This is Mrs. Granville" says Will as he introduces the two of you. "Mrs. Granville, this is Anna." "Pleased to meet you" says Mrs. Granville expectantly. Anna - how do you respond? Marcus, Jill doesn't hesitate at your request. "Of course Marcus - whatever I can do to help" she adds with a wink. Jill unlocks the door and gestures for you to enter. Marcus - what is the plan? Vargas, as Marcus converses with Jill, Moulder tries to answer your question.
"Well, Bobby and Sally could have met here and gone somewhere else. Then again, they could be inside. Tough call, but the moon is full and I've got a creepy feeling that something bad is going to happen tonight if we don't make some good decisions." He thinks some more. "I want to get in that library and see if they're inside" he adds as he watches Marcus and Jill. Once the door is opened, he follows the two of them into the library. Vargas - regarding your perception roll... you don't see anyone on the street. A few cars go by, but it's hard to tell who is in them. However, as one of the cars passes, you seem to recognize a familiar face. Please make another perception roll. |
