Marcus waits for Moulder to see what he says. Marcus would like to stay as much within the law as possible so that the real culprit can be put away rather then the one being blamed. |

Marcus, Agent Moulder returns from the car. "No dice amigo. There's no probable cause. We've got to make a decision here. How badly do you want to get in that garage?" he asks with a slight grin. |

Marcus appears to think it over a moment before answering. "I would prefer to bring evidence forward that would prove the man in jail innocent, and spark a new investigation. I believe the book holds the key to that route. If we barge in there with out a warrant then any judge would deem the book inadmissible in court. The only way we could go in there without one is if there was probable cause, something we don't have. As much as I would rather just get the book and end this case sooner rather then later, I think we need to wait for someone to return and get permission to enter". |

Marcus, Moulder nods his head. "I can tell you were a good cop, Thorn. And you're right. Without probable cause, we're sunk - even if we find strong evidence connecting this kid to the murders." Moulder reaches out and places a hand on the door knob. "Buuuuuuut it's not our fault that somebody left the door wide open" he turns the knob and pushes the door open. "It would be wrong of us not to just take a quick peek. It's the old 'in plain view' clause. Gotta love it" he says with a wiley smile. Marcus - if you want to take a look, please roll perception. Of course, this would make you complicit in a slight bend of the law.

"First of all, I want to say thanks. I know these are trying times and that everyone in town is in need of guidance. I also want to apologize for the actions of my fellow reporters. None of them have given this situation, this town or anyone in it the respect they deserve. I know it must take a lot of trust to take the time out of your duties to talk to me and, well, I just want to say I appreciate it." Anna clears her throat, withdraws a pen and notebook, flips to a blank page and prepares to take notes. "In times like this, I know that a lot of people are looking for help and guidance. Just losing one person so young is awful, but six in so many months...you must have a lot of people coming to you. I know you don't want to violate anyone's privacy, but I was hoping you could give me an idea as to how the town as a whole is reacting to this ordeal, and how everyone is coping with these murders. "Also...I saw the, um, photos when I came in. Were the girls regular attendees of the church? Did you know any of them personally?" |

Vargus resisted the urge to roll his eyes. She was going to progress slowly it seemed. If that's the way she wanted to go, he would sit back for now. |

"Thank you for the kind words. These deaths have rocked the community to its foundations. You've probably noticed the anxiety amongst the townsfolk, it's almost tangible. Thankfully, a strong faith in the Lord keeps the fabric of this community from unraveling. In answer to your question, yes. All six of those precious young women were members of the church. They come from very devoted families. They attended services regularly and all of them sang in the church choir. We're very proud of our choir and we believe song to be one of the highest forms of giving praise to our Father." |

"I see," Anna says interestedly. "That's awful. They were all in the choir? I had no idea. I can't imagine how hard this must have hit everyone at the church. And their families were all very devoted? "This is very...disturbing, that they were all connected like this. The murderer - Mr. Robertson - was he a regular at the church? Or was there some other connection between the girls that he could have had access to?" |

"Mr. Robertson never attended services here. In fact, I've never met the man. But if he is indeed guilty of these murders, he will pay dearly in this life and the next" replies the Reverend. "I don't know of any connection between Mr. Robertson and the victims. My concern is providing support to the families. As you can imagine, they are distraught. Well, that is of course, and understatement. Their anger is quite tangible." |

Marcus will stay outside, the simple law bending he did unlocking the door was as far as he was willing to go, and even that was weighing a bit on his conscience. He will act as a look out for Moulder. |

"Yes, I'm afraid I've seen that," Anna says sadly. "Just earlier today, in fact, some of the townsfolk had gathered around the police station. I think they were planning to take the law into their own hands. They sound very dissatisfied with the thoughts of the courts dealing with Mr. Robertson. In fact, the man in charge - Sam, I think his name was - told me that he wouldn't be happy with a conviction. You mentioned that all the girls came from very devoted families - you may want to talk to him and make sure he doesn't do anything he regrets." She inhales softly. "How has the rest of the choir reacted to these murders? I'd be very scared to be a member right now. I wouldn't want to traumatize any of the children with questions, but is there anyone else associated with the choir I could talk to after this interview? Some sort of organizer, or supervisor?" |

Reverend Garfunkle nods. "I think you are right. We have a support group for the families but Mr. Rae, who I believe you are referring to, has refused to join us. You must realize that this is a very tight-knit community. People here feel a real sense of duty to each other and we look out for each other. I think Samuel means well, but he has allowed his anger to control him. I had not heard of the incident this morning. This is unfortunate." The Reverend shakes his head. "It is a troubling situation. But I think most of the families are relieved that Robertson is in custody. Will Capstone is our choir director. He should be in. If you want, I can have him sent for." Vargas - this is the same Will Capstone that you talked with yesterday. Edited by dhorn, Oct 31 2010, 02:58 PM.

Vargus stands before the reporter can say anything, "I can go talk to him, while you two stay here and continue. Just give me the directions where to find him." After recieving the directions, Vargus goes to the man's office and knocks solidly. He then opens the door without waiting for a response and looks around to take everything in immediately. |

Marcus, Agent Moulder senses your hesitation. "Don't worry Marcus. I'm just going to take a look." He doesn't enter. Rather, he peers inside from the doorway. "I don't see anything. Shit. This seems like a dead end" he says as he closes the door. "Come on, let's head out." As the two of you walk back to the vehicle, a mini-van pulls into the driveway. The garage door goes up and the van pulls in. A woman gets out of the van and walks out to talk with the two of you. "Can I help you with something?" asks the woman. |

Marcus stops and looks at the woman. "Ma'am, I am Marcus Thorn, and this is Agent Moulder. I have been hired to try and prove if Mr. Robertson really is the killer everyone thinks he is. But certain things have come to my attention and Agent Moulder here. We were wondering if your son has a book from the library that he hasn't returned yet". |

"Some." Vargus answers simply. He swiftly glanced around the room. He files anything out of place in a choir directors office into his mind. (By the way, the kid I interviewed. What was his last name?) Vargus sat slowly leveled his considerable gaze on the man. "I was doing some research in the libraby, and I have reason to believe something not of this world is involved. I believe that a Human is doing the killing, but spured on by something...unnartural. you recall yesterday when you spoke of some black smoke. Do you remember that?" The questions came reletively quickly, with a hint of an interogative tone. |

Anna studies Vargas's exiting back carefully, chewing on her lower lip, but says nothing until he is out of sight. She turns back to Reverend Garfunkle and smiles. "I'm afraid I may have to interview Mr. Capstone after he's done. We're not together, you see. "Before we move on, are there any other groups the girls were all, or nearly all, involved in? Prayer clubs, the abstinence group...that sort of thing? Someone else I could talk to, after we're done here?" |

Vargas - the boy's name was Tommy. See post #59. "Yes. Of course I remember. Heh" he forces a nervous laugh. "How could I forget?" Vargas - there is nothing out of place for you to detect here, but it's always a good idea to throw in a perception check just in case. In this case, it wouldn't make a difference but it might in the future. Ok. How do you respond? Anna, the Reverend just nods again. "I believe all of the girls were active in the abstinence group which is lead by Mrs. Granville. They would also have been involved with the youth group - community service, charity work, that sort of thing." Anna - you may continue with your questioning. Marcus, the woman looks at you quizzically. "Library book? I have no idea? How is this connected to the murders? I..." "Ma'am" interrupts Agent Moulder. "Do you know the whereabouts of you son, Bobby?" "What does my son have anything to do with this?" she asks. "Mrs. Halls" says Moulder. "Mr. Thorn and I are following up on a lead regarding an overdue library book. As strange as that sounds, the book may have information that could be helpful for clearing up the inconsistencies in the case against Bernhard Robertson. If you could help us track down that book, you'd be doing us a great favor." Bobby's mother considers Moulder's request. "OK Agents, help me carry in these groceries and we'll see if we can find that book in Bobby's room." Marcus, Moulder gives you a quick wink and grabs two brown paper bags from the mini van. |

Yes I know his name was Tommy, but I also asked for his last name. You never told me if he told me that. I'm trying to determine if Tommy is this mans son. "I was hoping you could tell me more about what you saw. Have you ever seen the smoke in the past? Have you seen it since? Do you have any ideas as to what it might be?" |
