Ever since I spotted this on store shelves in uni I have been curious, and now that I have a new Kindle (yay!) I have finally got around to reading it. If you look for it in bookstores it will probably be in the comedy section, and the short book was truly amusing from start to finish. i read most of it in two sittings during my mornings off and I found it easy to get absorbed. In it Brooks describes the process of zombification, different levels of outbreaks (level 1 being only a handful of people, level 4 being a world ending zombie apocalypse), details different weapons and their level of use or uselessness against the undead Top Two Weapons , he details strategies for choosing the best places to survive in the short term, the long term, and how to travel, discusses how to prepare for and survive a level 4 situation, and presents a "secret" history of "true" zombie outbreaks dating from thousands of years BC up to covered up outbreaks within the last decade in the US. He also discusses the advantages and disadvantages of facing zombies in different terrain and climate types. Basically, if zombies were real, he covers everything you need to know to survive dealing with the zombies (hence "Zombie Survival Guide", duh). Note that this is not a comprehensive wilderness survival guide or leadership guide, he often refers the reader to the fact that one should obtain these guides separately and that they would both be crucial for surviving an outbreak. Everything in the book specifically relates to zombies, not survival in general.I give the book a 5/5. The humor is in how serious it takes itself. Anyone else read it or flipped through it? Own it, read it also! Love that fucking book. I got it as a B-day gift a few years back. Remember, Zombies + Fire = Bad. Zombies don't care they are on fire, they will still try to eat your face. |

Now the question becomes, why didn't either of you fine boys beat me to a post about this book? I want to know what my fellow gamers are reading, watching, and playing so that I can share in the joy! It would also help to stimulate and maintain a certain low but easily accessible level of activity on the boards. |

I read it way back when i read World War Z. Pretty good, but i liked the novelization better. And the graphic novel. I also have the card deck, which is fun. |

Yes, flashcards are EXACTLY what we need to equip when the dead start to walk.

I think that if you don't have a plan in place for before hand, it will be a little late for flash cards once the zombies start shuffling across the globe. |

Umm they're supposed to be fun, in an easy-reference sort of way. Though i suppose they may make good kindling in a pinch. |

At least you all are lucky. I'm fucked if the zombie invasion kicks of. I live in one of the most OVER populated citys on the planet... no amount of planing will save me... |

Stash all you can of these items: clean water non-perishable food at least one reliable handgun lots of ammo Then wait it out. I wouldn't leave the building you live in until things quiet down, unless it's on fire. Easier to defend your turf than to try and take someone else's. When the crowds have thinned down, you can try outsmarting the zombies and find yourself a more defensible location. |

One of the tips I found the most useful was to turn stairs in to a ramp, so if you live in an apartment (or even a house) find something smooth (a door or a table) and secure it to the stairs. If you can throw some lubricant on it (dish soap or oil) so much the better. Zeds have a hard enough time with stairs, but something like that could allow you to hold off a hoard for a long time with no more than a melee weapon to kill them with one by one as they slip and fall. If you have other people working with you, you could even do it in shifts. |

Or you could find yourself a castle and take up residence in one of the towers.. |

You don't want to live in a tower. Only one way up and down. If you loose the stairs then your traped untill you run out of supplies and die of starvation. I think a place with a second way out is far better... |

preferably one with a number of second story windows along a number of long walls. The survival guide points out that most high schools would make good places in the short term. |

I would want to be in a home in Germany. Concrete interior and exterior walls and heavy window shutters. |

Personally, I would want a 2 or 3 story building with limited ways up with a Large heavy wall. A group of people is best because you can take shifts on 'zombie duty' What bothers me in zombie movies is the fact that groups of people let small number of zombies build up. Zombies in small numbers aren't realyl dangerous, it's the large groups that pose the issue. So a small group of people working in shifts kill zombies as they arrive is best. This will keep from having a massive mob overwelm the shelter as well remove scores of zombies thus allowing for a more secure area and easier retrieval of supplies. |
