I knew what a yurt was, surprisingly enough. I think it's actually Mongolian in origin, for some reason, but I could just be making that up. |

Anyone who's ever played an RTS game should know what a yurt is. And "ger" is probably, like, japanese for "hut" or something. On a completely unrelated note, I also completely failed to note the name of the space the prologue boss was standing on. |

Wasn't the name of the space just "gate" or something like that? And yes, I knew about yurts from playing Age of Empires, but I'm pretty sure I'd heard of them before playing it. AoE could be influencing my thinking that 'yurt' is Mongolian in origin, too, since it was the Mongols that had them in a campaign scenario, IIRC.... |

IIRC, a yurt is basically a round, tent-ish thing, but with more of a frame and a roof than a normal tent, and more permanent. So I suppose it might not really be much of a tent-ish thing after all.... |

I don't thnk its specifically Mongolian, but it's definitely from Central Asia. It might be Mongolian...damnit, now my football coach is gonna kill me (he taught Geography last year ;>_>). As for what a yurt is, it's a portable tent used by shepherds in Central Asia. It's usually made with a wooden frame and sheep wool for padding and such. Pretty efficient since all the materials are right there (shave the sheep for the wool and use broken shepherd staves for the base [not sure on the last bit]). |
You, sir, win. | |
