I'm...HUNGRY!

As a mercenary group, a good chunk of the action (and RPing) will take place during missions (events), so to prevent the RP from being a cluttered mess with random gaps as we complete missions, I've decided to post an RP topic in between every mission. This will make it much easier to look through the archives at particular events and to not lose track of where we are chronologically. After a mission is complete, I will leave the previous RP topic open for 24 hours in case anyone needs to retroactively RP. Well, now that that's out of the way, let's get this show on the road! Clark Clark woke up a few hours before the crack of dawn. While the world was still wrapped in the night's blue-violet hue, he began moving about his small room at the inn, checking and rechecking his gear. He pulled his tunic over his head and fastened his belt, then threw on his vest and the remaining pieces of his Rider armor. It was a little awkward to wear when one was on foot instead of being mounted, but the chunks that he had saved suited his purposes well. The faded navy-blue armor had seen much wear, and here and there were hairline cracks, mostly in the shoulder plates. Clark tapped the damaged breastplate to make sure that it would hold. Satisfied, he strapped his sword to his back and turned his attention to the rest of his gear. His previous fortune combined with his success in other mercenary groups had given him the means to purchase mysterious and amazing gadgets in Etruria. Small unlabled black vials that exploded into a small dome of magic when thrown; a sharp dagger with a serrated edge on one side; a short jar full of pitch; a large box of matches; a canteen strapped to the side of his waist; and his most prized possession, which he had taken with him during his flight from Bern: a luminous violet cube in a glass box. It was his secret weapon, and he rarely used it. After checking that each of these was in its proper place on his belt or in his pockets, Clark laced up his boots, pulled on his gauntlets, and walked to the guild he was now working for. By the time he arrived the sun had crept over the horizon. Clark strode through the wooden doors of the guild and walked up to the front desk. "Good morning, Melanie," he said casually to the morning receptionist. Melanie rubbed her eyes and yawned. "Morning, Clark." "How are my recruits looking?" "About as well as you'd expect of scrubs," she said wryly. "So, about those specs--" Melanie cut him off and rummaged around in the cabinets beneath her desk, coming back up moments later with two pieces of parchment. "There, that should be all you need." Clark took the papers and examined them briefly. "I'll be out back looking these over," he said, not looking at Melanie. "Just send them my way as they arrive." "Duly noted." Clark walked past the desk and out the back door. He paced along the ground, which he noted had patches of sand dotted throughout the landscape. I guess this place is still close to the desert. Clark dropped the thought immediately; Nabata was not a pleasant memory. He resumed his pacing and read through the mission specs as he waited. |

Chris Chris and Juron's had not been going well, they had no leads as to Laila's whereabouts ,and were running short on funds. They had made it as far as a town in Etruia, where Juron pointed out a billboard. On the board were assorted jobs, but only one caught his eye, an application for a Mercenary Group. Several days had passed since he signed the form, and he was to go to the local Guild to meet the man who posted the application. Chris walked into the Guild and was greeted by a receptionist who pointed him to the back of the building. He walked through a long hallway, and eventually came to a door, behind it was a man pacing back and forth, "Hello, you must be Clark." Chris said, tapping the man on the shoulder. |

Clark Clark's musings were interrupted by a tap on the shoulder. Clark turned to see that he had been approached by a youth wearing a white cloak. The boy looked much younger than Clark and, judging by his build and garments, appeared to be a user of magic. "Mm, Clark Kallen at your service," he replied. "And you are?" |

Clark "Hmm. Well, the pay won't be too great at first," Clark said nonchalantly, "but it shouldn't be long before we're tackling bigger jobs. You're the first one here, Chris. That shows initiative. I like your attitude, too." Clark stroked his chin for a moment, then said, "How would you like to be my second-in-command?" |

Weyler stumbled inside the Guild building, a confused look on his face. His awful sense of direction, combined with this being his first day in town, made it quite an effort to reach his destination. Scratching his head questioningly, he looked around the room for some indication that this was indeed the right place. He recognized an emblem above what appeared to be the reception desk. With a shrug, he approached. "Er...I'd like to speak with...well, ok, I'm not sure of his name, but I've been assigned to work down here. If I could have a word with the man organizing the mercneary group...?" "He's busy." The recptionist pointed to an empty chair in the back, one of many. "You'll have to wait." "Alright. But, you know, it's really important. This is my first real job, you see. I mean, I've done freelance work for the Guild before, but this is more of a permanent thing, which I'd really appreciate seeing as the raveling gets to be a pain-" Weyler's nervousness had made him unusally talkative. His attempt at a conversation was rewarded with a blank stare from the receptionist, who simply pointed again to the seat in the back. "Right. Sorry. Naturally you're busy as well. Just a little excited, is all." Weyler strode to the back, then hesitated. He leaned his back against the wall instead of filling the chair the receptionist had pointed out. "I, uh, prefer to stand. I'm not trying to spite you or anything, honest." The receptionist rolled her eyes. |

Chris Chris was excited and shocked at the same time, he didn't have any real leadership skills, or much confidence. He took a while to think the offer over, but then Juron broke the silence, "Hello! Damn, kid! I'd have thought this would be an easy decision!" Chris turned away from Clark and began scolding Juron about talking in front of other people. After several minutes he turned back with a smile and excitedly said, "Of course! Thank you very much!" |

Derran Derran came out of his room at the inn ready to leave town, he had been here long enough, he supposed. Gathering his gear, Derran exited the building. I might need a job soon, I'm running low on money, Thought Darren. Perhaps I could even find a more stable Mercenary job Darren tought, it is annoying having to look for a new job offer after this long, maybe I should just...Darren stopped, seeing something, was that a mecenary job I just saw on that billboard? Derran read a little more, "Well, this is convenient." Derran said, heading back to where the local Guild had it's building. |

Brianna Stretching her arms up towards the sky, Brianna yawned lazily and didn't even bother covering her mouth. A stupid grin spread across her face. After all, it was the start of a new day and a new job. What could be better? Gripping her lance loosely in her right hand, she marched swiftly towards the guild, humming as she went. Poking her head round the door, she saw a receptionist at the front desk and a guy leaning on a wall nearby. Not in any particular hurry, Brianna sat down in the nearest seat and decided to take a short nap until something happened or someone deigned to tell her anything. Serena "So this is Etruria...Can't say I think much of it. Eh, oh well." Serena muttered to herself as she walked across the streets, her sheathed sword hanging from her belt as she took in all the sights. Tugging on a couple of loose strands of hair, she heard her stomach grumble and let out an irritated sigh. She hadn't eaten breakfast and there was only enough money in her pouch for only...perhaps three days worth of food. Good, but not good enough. She really needed money. Well, there was always the Mercenary Guild. With a shrug, she decided to head inside to see if there were any jobs that a single person could take on. None were available, although a recruitment poster for a new mercenary band was up on the billboard. A small smile formed on her lips and Serena nodded to herself. "Better than nothing, really. I guess it's time to head back to the mercenary life...whew, hope this turns out okay!" Keeping the name of the leader in mind, she headed towards the receptionist, a big grin on her face. "Saw the ad, where do I wait?" The receptionist simply pointed to a couple of chairs where a few other people were already waiting. Serena nodded her thanks and sat next to them, looking at the others curiously. "So...You're all here for that mercenary group too, right? I'm Serena Einsheart. Nice to meetcha." |

Clark was puzzled. Did that kid's voice just change? Brushing the thought from his mind, he spoke to Chris. "Good, because all I know about magic, is that if I take this," he removed one of the black vials, "and do this," Clark threw it out onto the open ground ten yards away, "it'll do that." Clark snapped his fingers as the vial hit the ground. Upon contact, the tube exploded into a small dome of fire that burned brightly for a few seconds before dissipating. "Huh...so that one was fire..." Clark muttered to himself. "I should really get around to labelling those things..." Motioning for Chris to follow him, Clark walked back into the guild's main building. Inside, he saw two girls, one asleep, sitting in chairs along the wall, as well as a man leaning against the wall beside them. A moment later, another male recruit entered through the front door. "Good to see that the ad hooked some fish," Clark said, addressing the would-be mercenaries in the room. "My name is Clark Kallen, and I will be your commander. This," he gestured to Chris, "is Chris. If you are any sort of magic-user, you will answer to him. We'll wait here a while longer to see if any other recruits show up; the targets we've been assigned to take out generally don't start their operations for another hour or so." |

Weyler "Um..." He looked to the soldier on his right. She was still dozing in her chair. Weyler found this unfortunate, as he was always a little uncomfortable around strangers, especially when conversation was expected of him. His idle chatter with the receptionist was due to brief nervousness. That was the upside to freelance work. No time for all these awkward introductions... Ah well, no sense in lamenting over it. Best adept to the situation. Not wanting to make the woman feel ignored or rejected, he reluctantly responded. "Hmmmm...pleasure to meet you. My name's Weyler." He extended his hand to shake hers, then struggled to think of something to keep the conversation alive. "What brings you here? Did the Guild send you, too?" Serena had no time to answer, as one mercenary came through the front door, while another came from the back, accompanied by a young-looking mage. The second mercenary had a very different look than the others; it was obvious he was experienced by the state of his armor and his gait. That, and he immediately began organizing the four recruits. Weyler was rather surprised when he heard that Chris, had been named sub-commander, and even more so when he heard the mage was given precedence over the magic users of the group. It wasn't so shameful to work under one so young, except that under the current conditions, he was the only one to do so. He sighed, then gave a shrug and a slight smile. As long as he doesn't make a butler out of me. |

Serena 'That was fast. Sub-commander already?' Serena looked at Chris skeptically, but shrugged it away. It wasn't her problem so there was no reason to delve too deep into it. She nodded towards Clark, wondering if he was a competant commander. She had worked under some real knuckleheads in the past, so she was hoping with all her heart that he was different. At least he seemed like he knew what he was doing, so there didn't seem to be a problem there. "Sure, commander. No problem." She replied to his instructions, leaning against the chair and letting out a small yawn. She looked enviously at the girl sitting next to her, wishing she could be able to sleep like that anytime she wanted. She decided to poke her in the shoulder to see if that would wake her up. After all, it seemed like it was almost going to be time and it'd be good if she were awake to find out what was going to happen. |

OOC: I've got the map ready for the Prologue. It's pitifully small, but something that you'd expect for a first mission. I work tomorrow; when I get home at night (probably relatively late), I will start the event with all of the characters that have RP'd up to that point. RP-onlies will not appear as sprites, since they have no stats with which to kill enemies; however, anyone with an RP-only character can still RP in the event, and "kill" enemies...at least in the RP sense. Anyone who joins late will come in as a reinforcement the turn after they post. It'll be a short battle, so it's no biggie if you miss it. |

Brianna Brianna hadn't been sleeping, not in the traditional sense anyway. She had been in that state between sleeping and awake, a sort of alert dozing that a lot of soldiers had ingrained into them. You had to be ready to wake up at any moment and be prepared for battle. It hade made her a very light sleeper. Cracking open one eye slightly when Clark spoke, she looked him and his 2nd in command up and down, assessing them. He looked like a decent warrior, confident and certainly older then her so hopefully was more experienced. However she was not at all impressed with Chris, who looked like he should still be in diapers. Oh well, at least I'm not a mage. She closed her eye again, thinking on what to do while they waited. More sleep was always good, but she doubted the other recruits would let her sleep for long. It was then that she felt the woman beside her move. Looking out from beneath her eyelashes, she spotted Serena moving to nudge her shoulder. "Don't bother, I'm awake." Opening her eyes fully this time, she sat up and stretched her arms again, working out a couple of kinks. Reaching into her pockets, she picked out a bit of cheese she'd stuffed in there earlier and nibbled absentmindedly on it. Realising that she was probably expected to socialise, she held out some of it to the woman beside her. "Want some? Can't march on an empty stomach." |

Orin Orin walked slowly toward the guild, this wasn't his first job as a mercenary, but it certainly felt like it. He slipped through the doors and quietly sat down, waiting for someone to address him. Luke Several weeks before coming to Etruia, he had met a small girl. Luke had agreed to help her find her father, but she was killed only hours later by a man with strange powers. Blaming himself for her death, he decided to return home. Luke's father was not pleased that he was back so soon, and signed him up as a mercenary. Luke walked slowly down th streets of Etruia, occasionally looking up to find this "Guild". Eventually he found it, and sat down next to a man with brown hair. Chris Hahaha...I can already tell that this is going to take some time Chris looked over them all, so far only one other Mage was present. "Erm... know I'm still young, but please don't judge me so-" He began, before being cut off AGAIN by Juron, who said "Kid, why not SHOW them you power? Or mine for that matter? C'moooooon!" Chris' eyes widened, Juron knew better than to speak in front of others, or didn't he care anymore? Might as well tell them...No! I'll just have to cover it up! "Ha...hahaha...Sorry...." |

Weyler Weyler gave Chirs a funny look. His voice had taken on a different quality, a deeper and rougher sound. He looked around, checking to see if the others had caught the sudden change. No one else had made much of a reaction, their attention lying elsewhere, so he assumed it was his imagination and set the matter aside. "Hmmm...yes, I suppose it isn't fair to judge you by your look. To doubt in you would be the same as doubting in the man who appointed you." He couldn't help but feel a little iffy about these circumstances, regardless of what he said. "I'm Weyler. Guess I'm your only 'minion' for now." He smiled, but it was more from the awkwardness of the situation than anything else. "So, Chris...do you have any previous experience with this kind of stuff? Mercenary work, leadership and the like?" He put up his hands defensively before continuing. "Just asking since you're so, um, young. Nothing personal." |

Clark was pleased to see that the recruits were interacting with each other. If they weren't fighting each other, they'd have more time to fight the enemy. Checking the position of the sun through a window, Clark called everyone to attention. "Okay, here's how this is gonna go down. A group of bandits calling themselves the Lowlanders have been attacking a village for the past three days. Civilian casualties have grown each day, with the current tally being twenty-five. They have razed several homes and businesses in the area. Our job," he stood up and began walking towards the door, "is to rout 'em. You're all able-bodied fighters, so I have no doubts about our success." Once they were outside, Clark debriefed them further. "The area is heavily wooded, so be on the lookout for enemies setting up an ambush. Other than that, all I've got to say is give 'em hell." OOC: I'm going to post the map now. Serena Serena was surprised when the woman spoke up before she had a chance to poke her. "Oh, thought you were sleeping. Sorry 'bout that." She shifted in her seat, wondering when it would be time to go. It was starting to feel a little awkward and she scratched at an itch on her arm. There was movement next to her and Serena looked to see the woman offering her a piece of cheese. Serena accepted it with a smile. "Oh, thanks. I haven't eaten all day."
