1478: George Plantagenet, Duke of Clarence, was executed by drowning in a barrel of Malmsey wine at his own request. Put on your hard hat and head for the highways! From repairing country lanes, to constructing huge motorways your engineering skills will be put to the test in this fascinating simulation. Lay out the traffic cones and punch through the concrete with your pneumatic drill as your new roadway starts to take shape. All of the tools of the trade are at your disposal including an asphalt planer, steamroller, marking machine and the whole gamut of machinery required to transform a building site into a super smooth motorway. As your skills grow you will be able to embark on a range of diverse missions. Country roads, pothole repairs, lane widening and motorway construction are all in a day's work for the hard hat highway heroes! Dig for pay dirt and form your own civil engineering company. You will be starting modestly with small wheel loaders but success is in the soil! As your skills and reputation increase grow your business with the purchase of a huge selection of equipment including the heavy road roller! Get swept up into fighting the flotsam and jetsam of city life with Street Cleaning Simulator! In Street Cleaning Simulator you are the proud owner/operator of a small firm specialising in keeping the town's roads free from all the leaves and dirt that accumulate over time. Visit your office to learn what work the Mayor's office has for you. Your vehicle is a highly sophisticated street cleaning machine. It's equipped with three highly powered and independently operated brushes. Whose work can be supported by highly powered water jets - which are needed to remove that stubborn street dirt. You'll be operating on busy streets so you'll have to use your driving skills to avoid pedestrians and other road users. Remember to use your wing mirrors to help prevent crashing your vehicle. Don't forget to fill up with fuel...and water......and empty out the muck from time to time. Street Cleaning Simulator features highly detailed vehicles and a wonderfully crafted town for you to explore - and keep clean! No more waiting on the hard shoulder in Europe to be rescued! Tow Truck Simulator places you in the role of the driver and operator of a rescue truck as you become the hero of the hour and rescue broken down vehicles and attend accidents. Or perhaps you will prefer to take the role of the driver of a dreaded towing truck and tow away illegally parked cars. There are four models of tow trucks for you to choose from each with a crane and winch to remove every kind of vehicle. You will learn how to handle different cars to get them loaded as quickly as possible! The large detailed 3D environment allows you to freely explore the roads around you whilst searching for drivers in distress. | |

I think given that they're on a platform incredibly more powerful than the NES, it would be possible to put in supports, and it wouldn't take away from gameplay at all. Honestly, supports are some of the most interesting things in FE, and if there's one thing a new FE needs, it's memorable characters. |

Super Mario Bros deluxe had a very nice save function which let me play on and off for quite a while before finally defeating Bowser in a climactic showdown and getting to that DAMN princess. A remake is a reimagining of an older title, updated and added on to. Maybe you're thinking of straight up ports? |

Hey, I didn't say that they shouldn't put supports back in--they're wonderful things--I was just saying that it's probably a good idea not to get your hopes up seeing as the original game didn't have supports at all, and FE10 didn't have real supports. >.>;; |

Problem. It's really not possible to do FE10's system right, if by that you mean anyone can support anyone and they'll get decent conversations. It's just too much crap put into the support system that could easily be put somewhere else, and people would complain about it (and there's the amount of space it would take up, too). |

Really now. When has permadeath done anything except screw over newbies or make you throw your handheld across the room because of a lucky enemy crit at the end of the mission? It's fake difficulty. There's only so much you can do to prevent death in the games with difficulty (no option to defend or evade, in FE6 reinforcements moving the turn they pop up, lucky crits, cantankerous AI), and the games without (like FE10 where goddamn everyone has maxed stats at the end of the game) death is hardly a possibility. |

It adds excitement, too, within reason. After all, sometimes you just have to roll the dice and see how it turns out. It's really gratifying to see a character survive a tough situation. Of course, battle saves are good because they prevent little moments like these from totally ruining hours of playing. |

THIS. OH GOD THIS. Fire Emblem is the one of the few games where I have to be extremely careful about what I do, and think many turns ahead. I'm a perfectionist when it comes to survival--I have cleared all FE games, hard modes included, without losing a single soldier. To me, it was an enjoyable challenge. However, I don't have a problem with the battle save, especially if chapters last a long time (FE4--FE10). |

While I agree it has its upshots (though I really have to lol@Chrono's statement), it cripples the story, it makes the game needlessly unfriendly to newbies, and the way they tout it just reeks of gimmick. If dying was actually a legitimate concern, then I don't think I'd call so much for it to be removed, but as it stands now... |

I'm fairly sure Intelligent Systems COULD work it so that no-one dies at 0 HP, but is forced to retreat and is left unusable for the rest of the game, leaving the caution in but still letting defeated characters take part in the story. ... What? It worked for Largo! (Okay so he was crippled between FE9 and FE10, and he only pops up in the Info conversations, but oh well, he's friggin' LARGO. By the way, I object to crippling Largo purely so that Berserkers could be ousted, if Boyd and Nolan are badass enough to swing Urvan one-handed, Largo damn well is.) |

Gameplay is drastically more important than story, for me at the very least. (It's partly why there are few RPGs I like). The great thing about Fire Emblem is that the creators did so well at making you think; a simple stat/damage system, and a motive to make use of that simplicity and play carefully. The system in general gives FE some feeling of immersion, which I never had with SRW. |

Why are you bringing up SRW? This is about Fire Emblem. And I maintain that permadeath is stupid. It doesn't make you think, because nine times out of ten you can throw whoever you like into the fray and watch them slaughter everything, except in the very early game. Once people start promoting, it becomes one gigantic rapefest after another. Even magic users and healers get that way near the middle of the game. Pegasus knights laugh off the arrow damage bonus, mages go toe to toe with Warriors and come out fine, Generals tink everything, even magic attacks, because enemy mages are worthless. The only time permadeath is ever an issue is in the first few chapters. Then when you start gaining a few levels and enemies remain static, you laugh everything off. Thus my point: If you're not going to make losing an actual possibility unless you're unlucky, then why the permadeath business? While you're very much right that gameplay is more important than story, there's no reason they should have to sacrifice one for the other, especially for the sake of such a backwards, unnecessary and unfriendly system. |

I meant a more constant challenge, actually. Also, wouldn't that just cripple the story just as much, unless talking to ghosts was regular? That said, it does seem like an interesting idea, but I think I'd like it more as an Easy mode doesn't have permadeath, normal is the regular kind of FE, and hard is constant challenge and permadeath (but with battle saves). Lack of battle saves are probably the reason I've never beaten HHM. |

It's not impossible to have both permadeath and story dialogue/development. I mean, you'd have to have either a ton of event flags, or less characters than usual, but having both is possible. |

Very well then. I'm really fine with it either way. But the point is that they're -not- doing it when they should be and they can. It's laziness and bad design, regardless of whether or not because it's because of permadeath. I stand by my statements that the system needs revising, but my main beef is how it seems that story has been sacrificed for gameplay nuances that aren't even that good. |

Yes, agreed. FE10 had no draw. But at the same time, there were several places where there wasn't permadeath for things like allies, and of course it had battle saves. It just didn't give anyone characterization beyond one or two conversations that established horribly bland characters. |

Removing permadeath from Fire Emblem would be like removing the insane plot from Metal Gear Solid; it would make it easier, but it just wouldn't be the same franchise we've grown to love. FE9 had the best system (so far) for supports: easy-ish to get, right there in the base so newbies can get them as well as old fans (lets face it, who got supports their first time through an FE game?), good characterisation etc. FE10 did it right in terms of making an efficient possibility for battling, but ****ed up everything in regards to the characters, not helped by the fact there were so many of them in that game. I still don't get why they didn't have at least some "special" supports with unique conversations in there. |

I like perma-death! Sure, it's annoying when a character dies, but it adds more STRATEGY to the game, and isn't that the whole damn point? In all other SRPGs, I just throw my forces at them while getting more and hope I'm stronger then them so most of my guys come out alright. In FE you can't just throw your guys into the fray and hope for the best... well, actually, you can, but it's not an effective strategy. |

FE having perma-death is balanced by the fact that (unlike most SRPGs) you can actually calculate every single battle stat between your unit and the enemy before you even attack. Most other games use goofy equations and crazy stuff, but FE's equations are completely linear. Sure, you can die, but you really shouldn't, unless your character got screwed. Or unless it's HHM, in which case you really don't have a choice outside of dying. >.> |

Permadeath is interesting, but there should be an option to turn it off and/or battlesaves, and there really shouldn't be any HAHAHAHA SURPRISE RESTART THE CHAPTER UNLESS YOU'VE GOT A GUIDE (re: Eltoshan) moments. True, you're going to get some no matter what, but because people restart whenever they loose a character, the bar's significantly lower with permadeath. I suggest the following difficulty levels: Easy: No permadeath. Normal: Peradeath. Hard: Permadeath, battlesaves, hardmode. Nutjob: Permadeath, hardmode. Something for everyone! |
