Potions Teacher

It was more than an hour until his first class was scheduled to start, but Martin still wanted to make sure everything would turn out properly. Yes, he was nervous, which he assumed was normal since he was in a different school, teaching a different subject, in a different language... 'It's good. I'm prepared. No need to worry now. It's not like it's the first time I start something new.' That seemed to raise his spirits up just a bit as he made his way down the stairs and around the corridors. He hadn't liked the prospect of teaching in the dungeons, because he would have rather had a room with sunlight, maybe on the east...? But it seemed like too much of a hassle to start changing things, so he had dropped the thought. 'I'll do just fine.' he thought. As he finally entered the classroom, he wasn't surprised to see the two rows of desks with huge cauldrons on them, but the gloomy atmosphere did little to please him. 'Well. Come to think of it, there was never something about having to leave the rooms in the same exact state...' Taking his wand, he pondered for a bit, and then waved it a few times in different directions. Four small gray windows appeared on the sides of the room, making it just a little brighter. Thinking it was enough, at least for now, Martin sat at the rather old-looking desk in the middle. Somehow, that didn't seem out of place, so he didn't notice that detail much. There were several books that he had brought here a few days ago, that he had used in researching for his first class. He opened the second one of them, one with a green cover reading Philters Vol. II. He skimmed through it, as if he had done that already plenty of times, and looked for something in particular. He stopped at page 156, and tapped the page rhythmically. 'That would work... and still. Hmm.' Not wanting to take a final decision yet, he looked around the room, thinking of the arrangement of the desks. He tilted his head slightly to the right, then got up very quickly and covered the distance between his desk and the first cauldron in merely two steps. Looking right, he tapped a finger to his mouth. Then, suddenly, he turned and pointed left. Nodding to himself in approval, he looked at the ceiling for a moment, for no reason at all. Waving his wand successively, the desks shifted a bit, so that they were now placed diagonally and all facing a spot in front of his desk. Then, with another wave of his wand, he summoned a cauldron bigger than the rest, and placed it in the empty spot. Taking a few steps backward, he began levitating it until he could find the perfect spot. |

Walking along the halls of Hogwarts slowly is such a serene way to spend a day for someone ready to expand their mind to the possibilities around them. The ability to decipher the origin of different stones, for those detail-oriented folk; or maybe the feeling of security within the walls so strong that have held against any who would have tried to tear them down. No matter how the being finds serenity, it was always easy to do with a slow stroll down any of the fine halls of Hogwarts, even if it happened to be in the darker side of the castle, deep within the dungeon. In fact, some people preferred the halls under it all over the others, more or less for completely different reasons as you asked each student who would say they enjoy it. In the case of Walter C. Dornez, the physical evidence of the world was at his fingertips here in the dungeon and he would refuse to leave without at least some sort of discovery each time he came down, even if it was identifying a miscellaneous insect along the side of the wall, hiding within the cracks between the stones that created the walls around him. Dornez enjoyed the ability to expand his mind no matter where he went and as such, made it his goal to find a way to prefect his own, secret hobby as he found new discoveries within the halls he walked each day. However today would be left little time for discovery, as he had been heading to class during this time of day, hearing his potions teacher was beginning classes and after last week’s observation in his Defense Against the Darks Arts, finding it to be much more interesting than he initially hoped; focusing more on creatures and things he wished to know more about, rather than spells and magical behaviors he cared less for. He hoped his next class, one based on the nature of magical concoctions, would prove similar if not better results. Walter walked down the hall, his class on the left hand side a few feet further; his mind racing with the possibilities that could come about in this class, yet knowing these people would more than likely dwell in much more magical answers than physical would not get his hopes up. He hung a left as he reached the door and cracked it open a bit before noticing the professor, in the middle of rearranging a huge cauldron, something that caught Walter’s sight and interest immediately. He walked in slowly and found a seat near the front of the right hand side line of desks, in direct vision of the professor and what he was working on. “Hello professor. My name is Walter C. Dornez and I happen to be extremely excited to get into this class,” Walter said with a huge smile, reflecting his now reenergized emotions on the subject. Maybe it would be more than he had hoped…just maybe. ((Corrected character, sorry again x_x)) Edited by Walter C. Dornez, Dec 3 2010, 11:15 PM.

Tristan walked through the Great Hall slowly. He observed all the hungry students scarfing away at the massive amounts of food piled on their plates. Ahhh, I remember waking up in the mornings and feeling the great hunger. But, of course, now his hunger took him to a new source. He found his food still squirming underneath his mouth or in a vile when he couldn't get away. He sat down at a table and poured himself some orange juice while his owl flew overhead, dropping off a newspaper for him to read. He brought the glass to his lips and tipped his head back, but he didn't actually take any of the juice in his mouth. He only created the illusion that he was as normal as any other student at any of the tables. He picked up his newspaper and began flipping through the pages. Nothing extraordinary caught his eye as he skimmed through each of the articles without much care. He wanted to pass the time in a sealed off room before having to attend classes. He found it odd that he felt just a little bit less alone in the crowd of people even if he only sat by himself. He could feel normal underneath the artificially made sun, but if he remained in the room too long he began to feel his power draining. He found it peculiar that the sun did not effect him in the same way as the real sun did, but after too long the artificial sun drained him. He had calculated the time out to 2 hours 19 minutes and 7 seconds. He folded up his paper and glanced at his watch. He still has some time before his next class, but he figured being early would not harm him. So far his teachers had been on the creepy, strict, scary, or mean side and he hoped his next one would change his mind about the new teachers at Hogwarts. "Here you go Bloke," he commented as he slid the paper to a boy in his first couple of years who was sitting alone. He slipped his hands in his pockets and began to walk to class as silent as a mouse. He reached his class: Potions. He slipped in the class and his footsteps barely made a noise. He saw the two younger children in the class already and he recognized the Gryffindor girl from his other classes. "Professor, allow me to introduce myself, Tristan Ilux but i would much rather be called Stephen if you don't mind. I'm looking forward to this year." He took a place by a cauldron in the front. A young Ravenclaw boy sat near him. "Stephen," he mentioned as he extended his hand, "As i came into class i heard you mention your excitement of being in the class. I am glad to be around others." Martin was a bit startled when he heard the door squeak, and dropped the cauldron, chipping quite a large chunk of it. He grit his teeth sharply, took a deep breath and smiled. "Nice to have you here. We'll start in about a minute." He said that slightly unsure, because he was yet undecided what he was going to teach with such a diverse class, since he was expecting first years to seventh years. So from students with no knowledge of potions to students who were getting ready to take their exams. That would be tough. Going back to the matter at hand, he looked back at the cauldron that he had let fall on the ground in a moment of not paying attention. Spreading his left palm a foot in front of him, he started feeling the weight of the cauldron as he lifted it slowly off the ground. "Reparo." he whispered, waving his wand toward where had previously been a hole. That solved the problem, although the patch could be seen slightly because he had not concentrated. He swallowed hard, because he knew he should be more careful. He was even more surprised to see even more students being early. He made a mental note to himself. 'Not older than second year, Gryffindor, likes reading.' Since he had approximately finished with everything, he thought it would be time to go back to his desk and make up his mind. "Hello, Sapphire. I'm sorry about your friend, I hope she gets better soon.", he said as he walked to his desk and stood next to it, flipping through the pages of the book he had been looking through earlier. He didn't have too much time for it unfortunately because in less than a minute a new face entered and he looked up again. 'Tristan. Stephen? Tristephen? Hmm.' "Welcome! And since you're all so early, I guess there's no use in delaying any longer. I expected a few more students to come, but we'll see if they show up later." He closed his book, seeming to have found the solution to his problems. "In the cupboard on your right side, you'll find rats' tails, skins, ears and eyes. Pick two of any of those, as well as some pepper seeds and dried fungi. Since it's the first class, I want to see how well you fare for now, without the use of your textbook." Martin clenched his fists so much that it hurt a bit. But he wanted the class to actually be useful. |
