I'm mixed on this topic, actually. I like what Kinky Friedman said- make the Mexican president pay a fine of $2,000 per every person that illegally crosses the border... that'll solve the problem.

Of course, it wouldn't... it'd just get a lot of desperate people killed.

If you've ever read the immigration tests, like we did... a lot of the kids in my class couldn't pass it. It's a GIANT quiz on both history and the inner workings of the American political system, and it's not offered in any language but English. For the poor Mexican subsistance farmers seeking a better life for their family across the border, it's a death sentance. There is no way they can pass it.

While there is a problem, I don't think by any force or violence is it going to be solved. I've driven to Mexico - I've seen their so-called 'fences'. In many place they're imaginary, or merely a highway where people get killed trying to judge distance of cars by their headlights (which you can't do)...

While I'm critical of the current system (it really doesn't work) I'm no help - I have no ideas of any solution that could feasibly hold over even two years' time. There's not really an easy solution to this - too many people are strongly opionated on either side of each facet in the issue, and every subsequent problem that arises on account of it. Some want to make the US - a melting pot by nature - like France, where there's so much pride that they allow no outward influence to encroach on their supreme Frenchness (no offence meant), and some want the opposite, and many are in-between to the point where they're unsure on their stand on several parts of this. I don't know, really - what do you guys think?
