Name: Giladrake Height: 10 feet Wingspan: 65 feet Length: 70 feet Weight: 5 tons Base DNA: Gila Monster, Mountain Dragon, Blue Whale Abilities: Claws, fire breath, heavy tail, jaws with many teeth. Weaknesses: Huge size, bright lights (like the sun) blind it, Fire breath weakens it. Defences: Pebbly skin, flight, fire Special Attributes: Breathing fire at its victims, venomous saliva that is injected through chewing, in old age, a slight film covers the scales, reflecting the environment around them when they move. Their fire doesn’t blind them because it has a thin green outside to it, and since they can’t see the colour green very well, they don’t get blinded. Flight bladdfers help them fly with such a short wingspan. Description: A huge Gila Monster with a greyish underside. This Lord of the Arabian Night has wings are that of a dragon’s. It’s tail is tipped with a large arrowhead, like a dragons’. The skin between the fingers of its’ wings are grey, with white dots placed randomly through scales. This gives it some camouflage against the night sky. On the other side of its’ skin (not shown in picture) there is a light, sandy colour for camouflage from above. It can also be seen painting the sky with flames when hunting. ![]() Thanks to my bro Super for the pic. LOGI Info: The Giladrake can live in any warm climate, like a rainforest or a desert, where they are most commonly seen. The Giladrake lays 3-4 eggs every 6 years, piling sand over them to hide them from predators and abandoning them. The eggs are about the size of a football, and are fire resistant. It takes an entire year of incubation in the hot desert sand before the baby Giladrakes- already four feet long -hatch from their eggs and begin life hunting lizards and snakes, also the occasional water toad. They are fully grown at 10 years old, but can’t breathe fire until 15 years of age. They live for an astonishing 127 years, and in old age, most of the scales on its’ body get a grey, almost white film over them, causing them to look white when resting. When moving however, they seem to reflect the environment around them, actually giving them a slight edge over prey. Males will battle it out for territory, sometimes to the death. The males with the largest territory will be the most likely to get a mate. They have an interesting courtship ritual, excavating a large ring somewhere in their territory, and then breathing fire over the sand, turning it to glass with the heat. As they mainly live in deserts, they are always searching for water. A large area of glass reflects the deep blue of the night sky, making it seem like water. A female that is cruising along looking for food will spot this and go to investigate. The larger the circle, the higher her interest. Upon landing, the male will slip out of hiding and startle the female, causing her to take flight. Being so close, the male can easily catch up with her, and they lock talons, spread their wings backwards, and spiral out of the skies, breathing fire over each others’ shoulders, and causing a cool DNA-like effect. Once they near the ground, they let go of each other’s talons, and fly off to a hidden area, most likely the males’ cave, and mate. They both go back to their usual lives after that, and since she has to wait for three years to actually lay her eggs, she will live her life easily for quite a while, at least until she needs to lay her eggs. When hunting, the Giladrake breaths fire in a ring around a group of antelopes or other medium-sized herbivore, containing them in a frightening ring of fire. Then, it breaths fire on the herd itself, cooking them easily. Then, it waits till the fire dies down, and devours the charred bodies. When it is full, it returns to its’ glass cave. The Giladrake –obviously- needs a place to sleep through the day, and a desert isn’t the best place to find a cave. Therefore, it makes one out of glass, tunnelling into a dune with its’ long claws and breathing fire all over the walls and ceiling before they collapse. By doing this, it makes a large, sturdy glass cave that it can sleep in over the day, and emerge at night to hunt. As it is nocturnal, the Giladrake needs a way to warm up before setting out at night. So, around dusk, it climbs out of its’ cave and spreads its’ wings straight up, warming the blood inside them and carrying it to the rest of the body. This apex predator doesn’t usually have any dangers, but there have been unrecorded reports where Gerranous have attacked the creatures. The outcome is unknown, but many think that this would be an awesome sight, and as the Giladrake spends most of its’ life in the air, it would have the advantage there, but as the Gerranous lives on land and has a height advantage, it would be more suited to the ground. Other: happyred50 has a smaller version, around ten feet long, that travels with him wherever he goes. |
