I would assume the ear is the final hole, which shows more skull except for a tiny sliver at the bottom, though I'm not an expert on the more precise aspects of theropod anatomy. |

http://news.discovery.com/animals/dinosaur...nny-120605.html And yes, I can see how high it goes up. It's highest at the hips, were it would need its legs to kick. You can't say that Ouranosaurus didn't have a hump, its an accepted theory. Hate to burst your bubble. Anacondas are semi-aquatic. that's the only reason they can get so heavy. If they were fully terrestrial snakes I guarantee they wouldn't get that big. Same with Purrusaurus, Mourasuchus, ect. Short legs are BETTER for holding weight, you do realize, right? Who ever said anything about fat? Birds don't have an actual hole in the skull for nostrils, as the nostrils are on the beak. If you really want to debate this go debate JohnFaa on Spec Evo, I'm a bit busy atm. |

Sorry Flish, but just because it's 'accepted' doesn't mean it's not a theory. Evolution is still only a theory; hell, gravity is a theory. |

You have got to b kidding me!![]() That Spine goes WAY higher than the hips! Otherwise, it wouldn't be a sail/hump/muscle anchor. OR, perhaps you misunderstood me. Accepted. But is it possible? Unlike any of those, Spinosaurus spend most of its time on land. Yes, but with short, I mean really short. Like so short that if it weighed 21 tons it wouldn't be able to run. In fact, if it was that heavy, it's legs would just break regardless of their length. Uhhh... Perhaps the scientists who came up with the theory that the sail is not a sail but a hump? Nobody ever said that. To me. Well, we might not need to debate. We're getting quite off-topic. Perhaps we should lower our weapons and debate another time? We're not exactly getting anywhere with convincing one another. |

Well, I'm pretty sure that a sail would be of no use underwater. Swim near the top, you startle things with your utterly massive sail that sticks out of the water. Swim underwater, and it creates unwanted drag. Abovewater, it just acts like a large sign, making you that much more noticable. And if it were a spine, if you roll over, you'd kill yourself. Or if you're running through somewhere and happen to run into a thick branch, snap goes your neural spine. |

A sail would be more streamlined for in the water than a giant hump. And that is a risk animals with sailed on their back take. Dimetrodon did it, Edaphosaurus did it, many others did it. Why should Spinosaurus? |

No, you wouldn't die. The neural spines do not have the spinal cord in it. Also, that restoration is outdated. This is the current one: ![]() Also, your wrong again. Spinosaurus spent only slightly more time on land than crocs and turtles. You clearly ignored my link. |

False alarm, it's a coelurosaur. http://translate.google.com/translate?u=ht...&tbb=1&ie=UTF-8 The author of the blog post doesn't rule out the possibility of non-coelurosaurs having feathers, though. Regarding the previous page's debate, read here. A large theropod can have full body plumage, as their bodies are made very differently from that of an elephant or rhinoceros. Their large surface area allows them to diffuse heat more easily (this is why elephants have huge ears) and the air sacs in their bodies allow for more rapid cooling. So, Tyrannosaurus almost certainly had full body plumage, and if a non-coelurosaurian theropod is found with feathers in the future, then we are to assume that other large theropods in those clades did too. |

Blog material typically goes unpublished, at least for a long time, since it's not as easy to compile into a full paper. News articles and scientific papers don't do justice to the gold mine of material that's found in blogs. |

We still have to remember there's still the possibility Compsognathids are Megalosaurids. IIRC they have very little in common with other coelurosaurs. |

They're certainly very basal at the very least, especially since they only had feathers on the top half of their bodies. |
